edit

Hi George. You have uploaded a number of images where you've not provided the copyright information. Stealing images from websites is illegal and could get you into a lot of trouble. You are also putting these images back into articles after they've been removed and a clear note left telling you not to put them back.

Stop this now, please George. You are causing people a lot of trouble and are getting yourself into trouble. We want you to keep contributing to our encyclopedia, but you need to work with us by not breaking the law and not ignoring your fellow editors.

If you keep going like this, you will be blocked from editing. Please stop, George, and get in touch with me (here) if you've got any questions you'd like answering about this. ➨ REDVERS 08:59, 9 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Blocked

edit

George, I've blocked you from editing for 15 minutes in an attempt to get your attention.

Your response to the above messages was to upload a duplicate copy of one of the images - again without letting anyone know the copyright status - and to remove the note on the other copy asking for the copyright information to be provided.

You must stop this behaviour now, George. It won't do. You are breaking the law by stealing other people's images to use in articles. We can't let you get Wikipedia into trouble for this as well.

You are welcome to resume editing in when the block expires, but if you remove the tags or upload more duplicate copyright images, you will be blocked again and for longer. ➨ REDVERS 09:49, 9 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

England geography stubs

edit

Hi - your five new English geography stub types have all been nominated for deletion. As explained in Category:England geography stubs, all new splits of that category (and all other stub categories) should be firstly proposed at WP:WSS/P. The category also explains that England's geography stubs are split by ceremonial county - none of these new splits is a ceremonial county. In any case, the stub categories for Tyne and Wear, Lancashire, and Bedfordshire are nowhere near large enough to consider for splitting (usually splits are only considered once a category reaches about 600 stubs - Lancashire - the largest of these three stub categories - has only 200). List of products in The Simpsons

edit

Hello George. I see you've been actively making additions to List of products in The Simpsons. It is good that you're enthusiastic about the list. However, I would like to suggest that you might be going a bit overboard. There are literally thousands of products and stores in The Simpsons that are seeing in single shots as throwaway jokes, etc. If one were to list them all, the list would be fairly bulky and useless (this has happened on other Simpsons lists already and have had to be cut back). I'd like to suggest the following guidelines:

  • Stores aren't products, so I would suggest you not list stores such as "Herman's Military Antiques".
  • Bulk groups of products like the "many antiques at Herman's Military Antiques".
  • Do not include real-world products like "English Muffins". If you do that, it's pointless. Everything in the house is a product. TVs, couches, drapes, carpet, etc. Besides which, I would argue that noone in the world would ever need to look up whether English muffins are sold on the Simpsons. Real world products are assumed to exist on the show since it is rarely shown otherwise.

The list should really be for Simpsons-invented brand-names or invented products.

The next issue is subjective, but I believe crucial to keeping the list from spiraling out of control: Products on the list should only be included if they are used more than once on the show. Throwaway jokes like Itchy & Scratchy Land Personalised License Plates are basically just describing a joke on the show. The list is really designed more for things like Laramie cigarettes, squishys and things that make up the Simpsons lore than a list of throwaway jokes. That doesn't mean some of your edits aren't perfect for the list; I believe you added "Radioactive Man Comics", "The Springfield Shopper" and "Li'l Bastard Kits". These are great ones, but things like "Disemboweller IV" needn't be included.

I am going to be deleting some of the ones that fall into the bullet point list above (real-world items and bulk groups) but I'm not going to immediately delete single-appearance items, but I suggest you join a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject The Simpsons#List of products in The Simpsons. Thanks :) TheHYPO 21:26, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Portal:East Sussex/Selected biography old

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Portal:East Sussex/Selected biography old, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Portal:East Sussex/Selected biography old fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

This page was renamed during an upgrade to the portal. It is now obsolete.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Portal:East Sussex/Selected biography old, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. PJ Smoothie

edit

A tag has been placed on PJ Smoothie, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Notability of Why Don't We Do It in the Road? (Uncut magazine compilation album)

edit

A tag has been placed on Why Don't We Do It in the Road? (Uncut magazine compilation album) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Rocksanddirt (talk) 17:11, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Polite if you use edit summaries and talk page

edit

Hi
I notice that you reverted the edit I made on Kosovo. I made it clear in the edit summary what I was doing, and I gave some sort of rationale in the Talk pages for Europe (it is a contentious issue, after all). It was therefore possible for others to understand something of my view, and I even quoted information to back it up.
You just changed it back without note or comment
TALK PAGES
As I am sure you understand, it is therefore hard for me to question your (unstated) logic.
I am sure that you will agree with me that truth is determined by the validity of the argument, rather than automatic gainsaying (which is the impression you have left me)
Perhaps you could share your logic with the group, perhaps using the Talk page for Europe?
You can, of course, debate with me personally on my Talk page if you have a particular issue with me.
EDIT SUMMARIES
If you could put a short note in the edit summary (underneath the edit box) as to the change you have made (in this case a note such as Kosova entry re-instated, or something similar), life is easier for other users, who don't then have to manually check each change using the page history and guesswork (a 127 character insertion just after a similar deletion is almost certainly an edit reversion!)
If you think I am wrong, feel free to tell me so. I don't make the rules, any more than you do.
Be lucky.

AfD nomination of Historical anomalies in Blackadder

An editor has nominated Historical anomalies in Blackadder, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Historical anomalies in Blackadder and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 20:00, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

User:Firelord1116

Hi George. It appears that you know User:Firelord1116 and believe that he will behave appropriately if unblocked. If you are prepared to formally take responsibility for this user's actions, I am prepared to unblock him. Is that something you are willing to do? Thanks, Gwernol 14:15, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Are you really claiming that a user you do not know used your name when vandalizing User:Redvers' talk page? That you then found this user account within minutes of that vandalism and left them a message on their talk page. That despite the fact that every one of that user's edits have been vandalism, you are still confident that they won't vandalize again in the future and should be unblocked? I am beginning to suspect that your relationship with Firelord and his recent sockpuppet account are much closer than you are letting on. Should I open a checkuser request on this account and Firelords? Gwernol 15:27, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Q1. Why has someone blocked my IP address?

Q2. How can this be?

--George C 15:51, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Very likely this happened when Mazzorbo was blocked. It would therefore appear that you not only know Mazzorbo, but are editing from the same IP as him. There is no way to be sure unless you follow the instructions on your block notice and ask for an unblock here. There is plenty wrong with sockpuppets when they are used to game the system, vandalize and evade blocks. Gwernol 17:01, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disappointed in what? That's an interesting contribution. Its almost exactly the same as this edit] that User:Mazzorbo made in response to his indef block. This makes me suspect that you are, in fact, another sockpuppet of Mazzorbo/Firelord1116. Given that we know you edit from the same IP as Mazzorbo, and have now taken to vandalizing articles in much the same vein as Mazzorbo/Firelord1116, it may be time to indefinitely block this account as well. Proposed deletion of The Definitive Bob Dylan Songbook

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article The Definitive Bob Dylan Songbook, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Proposed deletion of Swing High, Swing Low (album)

edit

The article Swing High, Swing Low (album) has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
