Wow excellent work on Manually Coded English! This is a valuable contribution to wikipedia. Thanks for following up on my suggestion. Hello. I notice you have a depression userbox on your user page. I'm working on a new wiki for people with depression over at Wikicities (a project started by Jimbo and Angela). The idea is to create the ultimate resource for people affected by depression, with information on medication, therapies, helpful organisations and a lot more. I wonder if you would be interested in contributing to it? It's very young at the moment, but if we can build a community over there it should get off the ground. If you'd like to look it over, it's at http://depression.wikicities.com . I would be great if you would give it a glance. Thanks -- sannse (talk) 11:19, 9 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

Saw you write reporting about the quality of Spoken article. I don't know why this happened because in my computer, playing the same file at 50% volume in VLC Player and 50% volume in speakers (making it 25% volume) was even very loud for normal hearing. So I didn't find any need to re-normalize the volume. I really don't want to raise the volume of the file unless I am sure that the problem is with the audio in question. If I get a second opinion confirming this, I will surely do it. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 05:13, 18 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image:Btown36.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Btown36.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 05:24, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deaf-mute

edit

Hi Etoile. I'm seeking opinions and possible support for an issue in which I'm in a debate with other Wikipedians. I'm trying to change indiscrimant use of the term "deaf-mute" in describing deaf people in general. To see some comments related to the issue, see Talk:The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, as well as my own Talk page, User talk:Ward3001. You can also follow the links to other discussions. Right now I'm about the only person addressing the issue because deaf people are such a small minority. Other Wikipedians, with apparently no prior knowledge of the issue, are reverting my edits. If you're interesting in expressing your opinion, feel free to do so. If you wish to discuss further please leave me a message on my Talk page. Thanks. Ward3001 17:33, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

MANY THANKS for you comments on Talk:The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter! I was beginning to feel very alone on this issue. If you can drum up some more support that would be great. I may contact NAD and some contacts at Gallaudet. Again, thanks for lending your voice. Ward3001 19:03, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm again asking those who commented against using "deaf-mute" to once again help me out. There is a persistent user who has repeatedly reverted "deaf" to "deaf-mute", and has again reverted (and probably will do so again until this issue is mediated [in process] or arbitrated). So far I'm the only one who has reverted it back to "deaf". If others could please put The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter on your watchlist and revert when necessary, I think it would have a much bigger impact. Just be careful not to violate the 3-revert-rule. As I'm writing this, the article needs reversion. There are four instances in the article where "deaf" is being reverted to "deaf-mute". I would greatly appreciate others in addition to myself making the reverts back to "deaf". As always, many thanks. Ward3001 03:28, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Note regarding mediation

edit

24.0.97.119 ignored the mediation request (neither agreeing nor disagreeing), yet continues to revert "deaf" to "deaf-mute". Please continue to monitor The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter. If this continues, I will ask everyone's opinion about seeking formal arbitration from Wikipedia. Arbitration results in a binding decision. Thanks. Ward3001 00:41, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Celebrity galaxy ship.jpeg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Celebrity galaxy ship.jpeg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 13:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Celebrity galaxy ship.jpeg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Polly (Parrot) 23:33, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Delia Day

edit

The article Delia Day has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable BLP, no reliable sources, no claim of notability, currently OR and SYNTH

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Invite to Join WikiProject for Spoken Wikipedia

edit
Hi Etoile! I am Galendalia and I have revived the WikiProject for Spoken Wikipedia. I noticed that you signed up at some point to be a participant and as I am reviving this project, one of my tasks is to get the participant list in order. Would you please go to the Participants List and add your name and language(s) you speak? If you are already there and do not want to be, please remove yourself. If you want to remain, please put remain next to your name. If I do not see anything, I will move you to the inactive participant list. I am putting a timeline of 7 days on this action to help keep things moving along. It would also be great if you would be willing to join the task force for Pronunciation that would be awesome, as there are troublesome words we run into.

Thank you for considering joining us. If you decide to leave, I will be sad   to see you leave as so many people have done a great job on the recordings and any work you have done makes a significant difference.

Hi Etoile! Question from a journalist

edit

Hi!

I'm doing a story for Gizmodo on how editors monitor pronoun changes on Wikipedia. I've noticed you've contributed to a few pages by contributing the correct pronouns for folks who transitioned later in life/were known by their dead names during their professional lives. I'd love to set up a chat if you're interested in speaking. My email is [email protected]. Please feel free to reach out, and keep up the great work! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hgiardina (talkcontribs) 18:22, 25 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Birgit Schier moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Birgit Schier, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Michael Felts moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Michael Felts, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). @Onel5969 I disagree strongly with this unilateral decision. Where do I post to make an appeal? Etoile ✩ (talk) 10:51, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Found it, I posted to the helpdesk and will see where they send me. Etoile ✩ (talk) 11:26, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi. I didn't get to respond to all my messages yesterday, so just getting to this. Even though it's been handled at this point, in the future, all you have to do is request it be returned to mainspace as per WP:DRAFTOBJECT. Would have done that as soon as I read this message, but it's moot. Onel5969 TT me 08:29, 10 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I was not familiar with that page and the help pages can be difficult to navigate/find things. Now I know for next time. And thank you for driving me to improve the article. -Etoile ✩ (talk) 12:52, 10 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Purity test

edit

Hello! I saw your request for protection at WP:RFPP, and I wanted to explain why it was declined. The watchlist system is designed for problems like you are experiencing at purity test. The edits are spaced fairly widely apart in time, so they're easy to spot and repair. Page protection is generally reserved for pages that are receiving rapid-fire vandalisms from multiple users. For an example, check the history tab at Alex Hunt, especially around January 31. Joyous! Noise! 04:25, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks very much, I appreciate the explanation. I've added it to my watchlist. Etoile ✩ (talk) 14:06, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
