Riefenstahl article

So tempting and relaxing to start improving other not-so-long articles on Wikipedia, and I sometimes ignore my to-do list totally, but I promise I will have Riefenstahl's article finished by Wednesday at the latest. Even though it's discouraged by most editors, perhaps including yourself, there's no way I'm GA-improving such a large article "out in the open", as I like to say, per this explanation. My improved version will be located here, but as you can see I've hardly begun. Cheers, Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 00:17, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

I usually do the opposite. I work on the article in main space, and stop for the day if I make a change that I think might be challenged, or if I have to remove a large chunk of unsourced material. Works for me. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:36, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
I don't believe extensive edits and changes should be done in a sandbox, unless it is a new article one is writing before published, so to speak. But, I know Jonas you don't agree; nun ja. Kierzek (talk) 23:40, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
An unexpected soccer event among some old and newer friends robbed me of time on Wikipedia this Thursday, and as a consequence, did not, as I openly planned, finish Riefenstahl's article. Another soccer event is scheduled to take place this night as well, although it's feared that so many people will show up. In any case, I expect to complete the article for sure late tonight, so early Saturday (at least for me, CET). I believe I've improved some 65/70 percent of the article, only about three sections left. Stay tuned! :) Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 13:23, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi Diannaa

I added more evidence to your case about EPM.--MyMoloboaccount (talk) 19:57, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for doing that. The latest batch of edits were extremely similar to stuff we've seen before. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:18, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Bin Talal Al-Saud‎

Sorry I didn't famousblock him. I had considered it. Then, I thought that he isn't really famous because "prince" was just a word that they themselves made up and added to their own names to give them self-importance because they are rich. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:49, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

He's notable enough for a Wikipedia article. Turki bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud -- Diannaa (talk) 02:51, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
Ah, nice find. I was looking but with all those combinations, I missed it. Bloody good softerblock then. Thank you. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:02, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

Pico Image

I want to upload some images from here. The company states : "The images provided below are free for you to use in your own publications. However, their content remains the copyright of Pico Technology.". Can I upload these to commons/WP, and if so then which rationale should I use?

I was going to upload it with "This is a free work." > "This file was given to me by its owner.".

Wonderfl (reply) 06:53, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

Can you give me a template of the email I should ask the company to send me.. permitting their images for use on WP? Wonderfl (reply) 07:16, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
The copyright holder has to send an email releasing the images under license to the OTRS team. There's instructions and a template for the email at WP:consent. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:12, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

I'm afraid they're back again with a new IP

Re the admin incidents, I'm just alerting you to another lovely bit of talk page stuff. Is it possible to get my talk page protected so that only auto-confirmed users are able to leave messages? I do hope I'm not bothering you. Mabalu (talk) 13:48, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

I have semi-protected it for a few days. Normally we don't leave the protection in place indefinitely unless you have an alternate location set up for them to leave messages, like this.

Tjmayerinsf

Hi, what happened to longtime poster known as TJMayerinsf that he got block template? It said copyright violation on his contribution page but it sounds oblique. Just inquiring about a longtime editor. ThanksKoplimek (talk) 20:18, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

The investigation started as a result of Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive879#Copyright violations by User:Tjmayerinsf, on March 26, 2015. I found several instances of copyright violations in his recent contributions, removed them, and posted a warning on his talk page on that same date. He continued to add copyright material after that warning, for example here, so he was blocked. The user has to date not applied to have the block removed. -- Diannaa (talk) 21:54, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

User:Topgolfshopping

You haven't actually blocked them, even though you have left them the block message. Widr (talk) 10:34, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

Begleitkommando-SS

Diannaa: I would like to move the name of this article page above to its much more common name of SS-Begleitkommando. But it wont let me redirect; therefore, I request your assistance on this task. That or a merge of the article with SS-Begleitkommando des Führers which later became known as the Führerbegleitkommando (which is what the one German Wikipedia article is named). There is a lot of overlap. Thank you, Kierzek (talk) 14:32, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

I think at first glance Begleitkommando-SS should be merged into SS-Begleitkommando des Führers. A history merge is not needed, just a regular merge. I know how to do this and will look at it when I get back from work. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:35, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Sound good. Cheers, Kierzek (talk) 14:44, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
I've done the merger and will look it over in the morning and smooth it over and remove any remaining duplicate content. Or you could do it, if you get to it first. -- Diannaa (talk) 04:37, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
I did some copy edit work, see what you think and tweak if need be. Thanks, Kierzek (talk) 12:38, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
I agree Kierzek. Powell always referred to this bodyguard unit as simply "SS-Begleitkommando". Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 13:26, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

OTRS tags

Hi Diannaa, as an FYI, when someone emails [email protected], they are now getting an auto-reply that gives them the ticket number. Sometimes, well-meaning users are adding this ticket number to images themselves. Please see the history of File:Shamit Khemka.jpg as an example. If you happen to notice an image like this where a obviously non-OTRS user adds a ticket ID, you can change it to {{OTRS received|notprocessed=1|ID=2015nnnnnnnnnnnnn}}, which will give an OTRS volunteer the reference to the ticket number, and will indicate that we have not yet had a chance to review the statement of permission. --B (talk) 11:38, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. I will watch out for that. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:55, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

Article title changes being discussed

There are discussions as to changing the title names of Schutzstaffel (SS), Sturmabteilung (SA) and SS-Reichssicherheitshauptamt (RSHA) which you may be interested in commenting on given your interest in Nazi Germany and World War II (Europe) articles in writing/editing. Editor Problems

Hey Dianna, Foxanchor (talk · contribs) has added information about himself (I'm assuming) on four seperate pages. The information is unsourced and non-notable. Another editor and myself have reverted the edits as "good faith, but non-notable, edits", only to have them readded. In one instance, the user blanked an entire section for whatever reason. Any help you can give would be appreciated. - NeutralhomerTalk20:01, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

Whenever you see the words "mobile edit" in an edit summary, you can be pretty sure the content was removed by accident. Our current mobile interface is quite terrible. I will have a look at the edits right now and will post something on the user's talk page. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:04, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
I will have to take your word for it on the WikiMobile. I don't have a smart phone (and my cell phone barely sends texts), so I have little to no experience there. :) Thanks for having a word with them. :) - NeutralhomerTalk23:18, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

Distance Education Learning and Teaching Support page deletion

Hi there, I am new to this, so apologies it anything seems out of line. I am hoping to make a page for Distance Education Learning and Teaching Support (DELTS) from Memorial University, and I saw it was deleted last night. I made the page as a place holder, and used some content from our webpage as a test, and it appears that was flagged as copyright issues. Now that it has been deleted, does that mean I cannot create it again? I want to make sure I am following the process properly, so I will make sure to read the guidelines closer. But for context, we have a long history of providing education to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and have been referenced in other articles on Wikipedia, so it seems appropriate to make a page where the history can be laid out by wikipedia users. Thanks. SWSallywhite2008 (talk) 13:23, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for your interest in creating an article for this organisation for wikipedia. There are a couple of problems with your submission. You cannot post copyright material (not even temporarily) on Wikipedia even if you are the copyright holder, unless special licensing permissions are in place. That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Please see this policy Wikipedia:Copyrights which explains how it works.

The second problem is notability. I am not sure the organisation is notable enough, as Wikipedia defines it, to have an article. We require write-ups in reliable third party sources such as newpapers, magazines, or online publishers to establish notability. New articles about persons or organisations that are not notable are typically speedily deleted. For organizations, a rule of thumb is to have extensive coverage (not just brief mentions) in at least three independent sources.

You could write a new article that does not copy or closely paraphrase the material available on line. If you decide to do this, I suggest you use the Wikipedia:Article wizard to guide you through the process. However, chances are that the article would be speedily deleted as the topic is not notable enough for an article. Sorry the reply could not be more favourable. Regards, -- Diannaa (talk) 13:50, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply, I am confident we have the sources needed to make this a notable article, so I will pay closer attention and use the article wizard for creation. Thanks again Sallywhite2008 (talk) 13:59, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Don Beckerleg

Hi Dianna,

RE: File:Don Beckerleg - 50 Years of Service - One in a Thousand.jpg

Like many, I am learning as I go. This photo belongs to us including the content of the photo. We own it and release it for public domain. The plaque was given to us by Lockheed Martin. I took my own photo of it as it sits on our fireplace. I'm not sure how I specify (or prove) all that given how the forms prompted for copyright information. Any suggestions? --RSH (talk) 02:59, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

The artwork has its own copyright, and the creator of the artwork holds the copyright. Possession of the artwork does not transfer the copyright to you. We will not be able to keep the image unless the copyright holder releases it under license. -- Diannaa (talk) 05:21, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

More advice.

Hello! I wanted to get your advice again on how to deal with a different issue. I am in the process of redoing all the U.S. fire department pages. One of the ones I am currently working on is Jersey City Fire Department. As I have attempted to tidy up the page and remove content that violates WP:NOTSTATSBOOK (among other issues), there is an anonymous user that keeps reverting my edits: 24.94.111.116. Initially I just templated them but then decided a more personal approach might be better, so I tried leaving multiple message on their talk page, and have opened an issue on the JCFD Talk Page, but the user has not responded. The only page that this IP address has edited is this one and it feels to me like this user is attempting to take ownership of the page and revert any edit that he/she doesn't like. Additionally, the edits have no summary or explanation at all.

Note that I have already consulted with Mojo Hand on this issue. He recommended a zen like approach of slowly making changes and continuing to try to engage this editor. While I think this is a worth while attempt (and for the time being what I am attempting, some of the latest edits have me concerned. This latest edit makes it look like this individual is trying to use this page as an up-to-the-minute status of the engines. "Engine 2 is riding on Engine 33 today because 2's is having the oil changed...". It is clear the user is affiliated with the department which does NOT seem to me to pose a WP:COI (unless they were to remove notable content that shed a bad light on the department. Such as if they were to delete notable content about a scandal or something.) But what has me concerned is what I perceive as a clear attempt to take ownership of the page and use it to keep stats and status on the department. In this regard it would seem to me that there is a conflict. I don't know what the best course of action is but it would be nice to have an administrator try to get this individuals attention. I of course want to assume good faith but it is difficult when the individual refuses to engage in dialogue despite 4 messages on their talk page and an RfC on the article's talk page.

I welcome any advice and insight! --Zackmann08 (talk) 22:42, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Hey Zackmann08. Sorry for not replying sooner. I think posting hand-written messages on their talk is the way to go (as opposed to templates). Its difficult to communicate with a non-responsive user. I usually try the auld line "Wikipedia is not only the encyclopedia anyone can edit, it's also the encyclopedia we all edit together" to try to get them to see how Wikipedia works. You could suggest that if they want to keep a day-by-day log of changes within the dept that a blog might be a better venue for their work. Plse continue to try to get them to cite sources for their changes. While they seem to know what they are talking about, it's still OR and has no place on this wiki unless it's sourced. Good luck, -- Diannaa (talk) 18:34, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. No worries about the delay. You are allowed to have a life outside of Wikiedpia. :-p I guess my question would be what do I do when my edits are inevitably reverted? What I am fairly certain is going to happen is that I will leave them another note, remove the WP:OR and then will promptly have my edits reverted by this IP address. Do I then just revert their reversion? I am very wary of WP:WARing. Would you be willing to step in and take an administrative action? Again, this user clearly does have knowledge on this issue and I am not suggesting they be banned from editing because of their actions. But IF this scenario does play out as I expect it to, given that I have left them numerous personal messages on their talk page, and am going to leave another before I remove the WP:OR, would you be willing to institute a temporary block on the user as a way of saying "Hey, you need to engage in dialogue here and understand that what you are doing is not ok and doesn't belong on this wiki." Does that seem like a fair way to move forward? --Zackmann08 (talk) 19:21, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
I think your message is very good. Please let's don't talk about blocks until we see how he responds. -- Diannaa (talk) 22:06, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
Good point. Agreed. Thanks! --Zackmann08 (talk) 00:29, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
Unfortunately it happened as I predicted. The user in question continues to revert my edits without explanation. I would really appreciate your assistance. Not sure what the best course of action is. I will leave that to your and Mojo Hand as admins to determine. Please let me know if there is anything I should (or should not) do. --Zackmann08 (talk) 23:10, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

RE User:Menstrual

Hi, @Diannaa, I filed a complaint at ANI regarding the username @Menstrual. I followed up diligently but the last reference specifically made to this username was that you were discussing it with the editor. Eventually it was removed from the holding pen as presumably resolved but nowhere is any disposition mentioned. I understand you are really busy and that a lot of cases come through. I hate to bother you but wondered if this fell through the cracks or if the username in question has been approved. Yours, Quis separabit? 12:33, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Also, there was a reference on @Menstrual's talkpage (since deleted but avaiable in edit history) to a banned user NewGame (see [2]) by DoRD, although the reason for the connection was never explained. I am not trying to whip a dead horse here, I am just wondering about nature of disposition of this matter. Thanks. Yours. Quis separabit? 12:39, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
At the time I removed it from the holding pen he had no edits for over two weeks. Now he has started editing again. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:52, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Even more advice.

You may soon grow tired of my I fear. But as you are so much more experienced than I, I feel I must turn to you for advice. There is a user by the name of Zlassiter who seems to have created an account for the sole purpose of reverting and challenging edits I have made. Their 6th edit after creating an account was to place a large templated warning on my page after I nominated a page for deletion. As a result of that disagreement they have now taken it upon themselves to add comments to every AfD I have created saying that I have a long history of false nominations. [3], [4], [5]. When I attempted to remove one of them as being non-contructive and having nothing to do with the discussion at hand. They reverted my edit and warned me ([6]) once again. Not sure what to do about this. Would appreciate your advice once again. --—Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:09, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi Zackmann08. The user is correct: deleting others' comments in an AFD discussion (or anywhere else, really, except for your own talk page) is not permitted. There are some exceptions, but I don't think this post crosses that line. Please try to relax a bit: no one is going to take such remarks very seriously. I will post a message on the user's talk page -- Diannaa (talk) 17:23, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
Noted and thank you for your advice. Relaxing shall be my new approach. I do have a tendency to get a little hot under the collar and truly do appreciate your advice, even when (and frankly especially when) it points out things I can and should do better. As always, I thank you. :-) Have a great Wednesday! --—Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:37, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi Diannaa, I understand you declined the speedy delete on the user page. But as a page created for a SPA for vandalism purposes, I expected you as administrator to blank the user page. I hope that it can at least be done. Optakeover(Talk) 20:45, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

I don't think it's necessary. It's not vandalism, and you should not have blanked it in the first place. Sorry, -- Diannaa (talk) 20:48, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi Diannaa, do you think it would be a good idea to renew the semi-protection of List of Lebanese by net worth, which expired mid-May. On May 28 another(?) IP editor added a large amount of unsourced changes again. Sionk (talk) 17:30, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Yes I do think this is a good idea. Sorry this somehow got removed from my watch-list or I already would have noticed :/ -- Diannaa (talk) 17:40, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Yep, I think I was away at the time too. Sionk (talk) 17:44, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

This article has been a little "side project" of mine for a while. I want to put it up for GA; can you run through it and do a ce check first, when you have time? I would appreciate it. Cheers, Kierzek (talk) 19:55, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Sure. Found and fixed one dead link. I think I will head outside for a while but I will get back to it later. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:45, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the ce; I have put it up for GA review. Cheers, Kierzek (talk) 19:44, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Wikibreak Enforcer Problem

I'm User:Myxomatosis57. I set up a Wikibreak Enforcer code in March. It should've ended by now; however, I still can't access my account. I've read that an admin is able to remove the code from the javascript. Can you help me please? -151.250.8.5 (talk) 14:12, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi, is the copyright question left on Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Hermann Fegelein a reason for concern? Thanks MisterBee1966 (talk) 05:00, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

I don't know what to tell her. There's literally hundreds of Nazi military rank insignia on the Commons, and none of them have any copyright information about the original designs. Perhaps it is PD-shape? I will post something right now. -- Diannaa (talk) 05:13, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

Kaveri Krishnan Kukku

Could you take a look at the user Kaveri Krishnan Kukku and their contributions. They have been given multiple warnings for copyright infringement [7] and making persistent disruptive edits against consensus. CIR concerns and net negative to the project. - NQ (talk) 09:41, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

User:TaminaKhyrah

I just saw your comment over at WP:AIAV and just wanted to follow up. You're right, their edits aren't vandalism (and, subsequently, likely aren't disruptive, either). I was only reverting them for inappropriate additions of external links, but it looks like they were reported because they had already accumulated all their warnings from other users. Regards. Request to remove Speedy deletion nomination

Hey Diannaa, I recently uploaded a photo for Digvijaya Singh a public figure of India but you nominated it for speedy deletion.I am citing here the source of image and request you to don't delete the image[1]

The problem is, you tagged it with a cc-by-sa-3.0 and GFDL license. The photo is not yours and you have no right to release it under license. I will fix it up for you for fair use (in a few minutes, I am busy right now) -- Diannaa (talk) 13:39, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Comparative ranks of Nazi Germany

D-- is there a way to make this table fit the viewing page better. The current perimeters are very wide and only show about half the table at a time. Can you have a look? Cheers, Kierzek (talk) 14:47, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

@Kierzek: Sorry for missing this post. I have looked at the table, and on my laptop I can only see about a third of it at a time! in mobile view I can see about half. I think the table is a good way to present the data, and can't think of any ways offhand to reduce the width. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:08, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for trying. What if the table was reduced in size, more like this one: Uniforms and insignia of the Schutzstaffel#Final SS ranks 1934–1945. Kierzek (talk) 21:31, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
Comparative ranks of Nazi Germany has thirteen columns, and Uniforms and insignia of the Schutzstaffel#Final SS ranks 1934–1945 has only seven. Could the table be split in two somehow? -- Diannaa (talk) 21:48, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
It is not ideal, but something needs to be done. If it was split, it should be: Heer, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, Waffen-SS, Allgemeine SS in one; Heeresverwaltung, Sturmabteilung, National Socialist Motor Corps, Reichsarbeitsdienst, Hitlerjugend, and NSDAP in the second. Kierzek (talk) 01:52, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

Galaxy Macau

Judging from those edits you have surpressed, the username of the account Galaxymacau seems to be run by the company itself. I myself have viewed the edits before you surpressed/deleted them and they are promotional in tone and that is why I think it is the resort themselves. Furthermore, today I checked my watchlist and noticed a new user User:Mylenefl1986 editing the same article in a promotional manner. Here's the diff: [8]. It seems like there's some sockpuppetry. Should I start a sockpuppet investigation? TheCoffeeAddict talk|contribs 13:58, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

The edits were hidden because they were copyright violations. Blocking as a sock would not be appropriate, as they were specifically told at user talk:Galaxymacau to create a new account. They need to learn about COI so I have added some info about that to their new talk page. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:07, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Problematic images

Hi Diannaa, I'm contacting you because you did some initial work with File:Audrey Capel Doray.jpeg and contacted`the user who uploaded it. They seem to have learned nothing from all that and have uploaded two more very problematic images of the copyright work of others as "own work" and listing herself as the copyright holder in the cc-by-sa-3.0 license. Could you take a look at the documentation for:

The latter is especially problematic because it is a photograph of a 3-D work. The background and more detail on the issues are in my comment at Talk:Audrey Capel Doray#Thank you To Voceditenore. As you can see from the user's talk page, I have expended literally hours on guidance for her and am pretty much at the end of my rope and my patience  . Voceditenore (talk) 11:54, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Also pinging VernoWhitney because he seems to be handling the on-going saga of the insufficient OTRS for File:Audrey Capel Doray.jpeg. I have a feeling that if OTRS permissions were sent for these latest two images, they may not even have the correct file names on them. The uploader tried to put them in the article Audrey Capel Doray today using completely different file names and then couldn't understand why they weren't showing up. I had to find the right ones by looking through her contributions. Sigh! Voceditenore (talk) 14:21, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Help Needed

I am having an issue with a new user removing sourced information, changing formats from direct links to redirects and other nonsense. I posted a message on their talk page and received this. Read the last sentence of their post: "Also, you can't tell me what to do. It's none of your business if I update a few pages. What are you gonna do, lynch me? You can't stop me! You just might as well give up". I believe we are dealing with someone who isn't here to edit and is here to just make problems. Would you mind taking it from here? - NeutralhomerTalk22:31, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

I also issued a manual final warning, but I have the feeling that this won't stop this user. - NeutralhomerTalk22:37, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
After my final warning, the user responded and stated if blocked he/she will "just continue to make multiple accounts." I think a CU is now in order. - NeutralhomerTalk22:59, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
I've posted on their talk page and will watch their edits. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:04, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

But I AM here to make edits though! I'm not trying to cause any problems, unless your definition of a "problem" is harmlessly updating information and correting incorrect information. There's no need to overreact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CaptainHog (talkcontribs) 23:08, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Nobody's over-reacting here. We're just insisting that you say where you got the information; that's a normal part of Wikipedia editing, and it's required, every time you add or change information. I will post some info on your talk page as to how to do it. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:13, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

After this post, I think temporary semi-protection is needed on the articles the user has edited. If he comes back with an account that is auto-confirmed ‎then we may need to go temporary full protection. I would also see if a range block could be put in place if the user does indeed create another account. - NeutralhomerTalk00:58, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Also, is it just me or does the user seem to kinda know Jpgordon? Like he is surprised to see him? - NeutralhomerTalk01:00, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
Whoa, saw I was mentioned (there are mentions on talk pages now? About time...) and want no part of this. I fixed a small inaccuracy about a WVTF translator that I noticed and I guess accidentally reverted some badness? Yay? But I didn't consciously insert myself into this mess. (Aside, User:Neutralhomer, I find your radio station project very intriguing...) Xenon54 (talk) 01:47, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
@Neutralhomer: I have watch-listed the main articles, the ones he was edit warring over, and will place some page protection if I see anything untoward. Hopefully it's over. -- Diannaa (talk) 03:12, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
@Xenon54: I wasn't inserting you into this, I was just giving Dianna all the information she needed. You were mentioned in passing as another user who made a revert, no more, no less.
I do appreciate your interest in my project. It's something I have been meaning to do. I am literally going station to station (in alphabetical order) through the Virginia stations, checking links, correcting information, updating logo images, essentially making sure every bit of information is as up-to-date as possible. I am then going to go through and try and add as much information to each article as possible. That's part 2 of the project. My overall goal is to, eventually, take all the articles to GA status, or at least B.
@Diannaa: I am hoping it is over as well. I would much rather play in traffic (no, not really) than play whack-a-mole with this guy. I genuinely hope he has taken this opportunity to read up on the rules, observe how others edit, and then maybe come back with fresh eyes. If he can demonstrate that he is willing to follow the rules (not the ones he wants to follow) and that he realizes that his past behavior isn't going to fly and shows a serious course correction, I would have no problem with an unblock request, but not until.
Apologizes to you both for the slow reply, I had a little nap. - NeutralhomerTalk04:20, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

RE:Adding references can be easy

The references were already on the pages when I went to edit them. This is something you guys need to understand. It's like you added the references and didn't use them in the articles. CaptainHog (talk) 23:33, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

What you could do in an instance like that is say so in your edit summary, or add the citation again. That way it's clear to other editors where you got the information. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:40, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
User is just slapping citations on the same pages willy-nilly while making the same edits. User is citing a non-reliable source, even citing Wikipedia. Same edits, poor sources. - NeutralhomerTalk23:47, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
The one I looked at WSLC-FM, where he changed to 95,500 watts (100,000 with beam tilt) and changed the tower height to 598 meters. The info does indeed appear in the source provided (here) but the citation was added before the info box instead of with the data. Please double check the others. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:55, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
OK, that one I corrected, but the rest remain incorrect. - NeutralhomerTalk00:26, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to do that. I will post again on his talk page now. -- Diannaa (talk) 00:28, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

User:Neutralhomer is the radio expert - he can check and make sure these are reliable sources and that they actually back up the material you added. -- Diannaa (talk) 03:37, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
For someone who claims to be a "radio expert", he can't
1.) Realize that WSFF does in fact NOT broadcast in HD Radio (The official HD Radio site can confirm that)
2.) Realize That WJJS/WJJX hasn't had their Rhythmic CHR format in nearly three years. They are purely a CHR station.
3.) Can't tell the difference between Urban Contemporary and Urban ADULT Contemporary
4.) Realize that WSNV has dropped their Oldies format and is purely Classic Hits. I don't care how many times I used "Realize that."
I think I'm more of an expert than he claims to be. CaptainHog (talk) 03:54, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
The HD Radio website is consistantly out of date, always has been. It's not a good source. WJJS/WJJX has carried a Rhythmic Contemporary Hit Radio format for years, still does. There is not difference between Urban Contemporary and Urban Adult Contemporary, none. WSNV still airs songs from the 60s and early 70s which fall under the Oldies category.
The "sources" you added were a radio board, a Wikipedia mirror, Wikipedia itself and the out of date HD Radio website. Sorry, but none of these are going to work. - NeutralhomerTalk03:58, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

1.) Just because the HD Radio website is supposedly out of date doesn't automatically mean WSFF broadcasts in HD Radio. I actually have an HD Radio and I can tell you that WSFF doesn't broadcast in HD Radio. You can even contact someone who works for the station. 2.)WJJS/WJJX has dropped their Rhythmic format in 2012. It's evident by their playlist. 3.) The main difference between Urban Contemporary and Urban Adult contemporary is that Urban AC stations tend to stay away from recent popular hip hop/rap songs. 4.)I don't even care about WSNV, they've been going downhill. 5.) In the case of my recent WVTF edit, I got information from the station's damn website!!!

Lawal Musa Daura

Why do you keep deleting Lawal Musa Daura? There are numerous sites that now cover his appointment and there are only so many ways scant information can be presented. Information from the Punch is just one source. Even the State Security Service site has new information about him:https://dss.gov.ng/index.php/aboutus/leadership - pleas restore as I'm in the process of cleaning up the article.

That's not correct Diannaa. I edited the article but you appear adamant about the copyright infringement. Did you see the updates I made? This is not in the Wikipedia spirit. A bit dissapointing. Kunkuru (talk) 03:41, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

It was copied from here. -- Diannaa (talk) 05:13, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

I think your point about copying and pasting is noted however the updates me and others made corrected things. With proper attribution you shouldn't have deleted the article. If the NY TIMES publishes an article with the sentence "Kunkuru is a cat" and if Kunkuru is notable, there are only so many ways one can write about Kunkuru on Wikipedia. Draft:Wild Asia’s Responsible Tourism Awards

Hey Dianna, First - thanks for the time and effort you take to make Wikipedia a better place.

I wrote the article "Wild Asia’s Responsible Tourism Awards" citing sources, and not using the same words (copy-pasting), but it seems it wasn't good enough.

I'm happy to change it, and I thought I will receive some input - but instead - it was just deleted - not taking into account the time I have spent in sincerely creating it.

Its so frustrating... I can't believe I've done this mistake and didn't save a copy of it on my computer. so... hours of work are gone...

Is it possible to recover what you deleted?

I must say that one source mentioned that I copied from - I haven't even looked at. The other source is where I took much info, and appreently I need to rewrite that section, which I will.

Thanks, Roi — Preceding unsigned comment added by Roi.eco (talkcontribs) 08:30, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

Hello Roi.eco. The article consisted of two paragraphs. The first paragraph was almost identical to the first paragraph of this page, and the second paragraph was almost identical to the first paragraph of this page. It's not okay to post copyright material here, not even temporarily in a draft or sandbox while you work on it.

A second problem is notability. I am not sure the awards are notable enough, as Wikipedia defines it, to have an article. We require write-ups in reliable third party sources such as newpapers, magazines, or online publishers to establish notability. New articles on topics that are not notable are typically speedily deleted. I suggest that you begin again and write a new draft that does not closely paraphrase or copy the material available online. Even then, chances are that the article would be speedily deleted as not notable enough for an article. Sorry the reply could not be more favourable. Regards,-- Diannaa (talk) 13:53, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi Diana, thanks for answer. I'll add more sources from "old" articles and make sure the article follows the notability definitions (and will save the draft on my computer!)

The old version was actually at Spiral Needles for General and Plastic Surgery. Admin request / help for direction

Hello again Diannaa! Sorry to bother You, but I need some kind of administrational help. It doesn't need to be You, but perhaps You could direct me to someone. To the matter - in an other article did I notice Janni Spies was in red. I thought about it, but wrote a stubbish article as she indeed was a huge celebrity in Denmark and Scandinavia , from the mid 1980's and for around a decade. She got very famous since she married one of the richest men in her country, the "Charter King" Simon Spies. He died within a year and it was obvious that he wanted an heir (he had no previous wife or children, only a very old mother). I don't say "this is the best of articles at Wikipedia, but User:Reddogsix want's to remove it. I have no litterature on Janni Spies, and most references are in Danish (but there is lots of pictures). User:Reddogsix hasn't given any instructions WHERE to discuss the matter, nore has the user specified which of the 14 points for deletion he or she is refering to. I'm not asking for taking my side automatically, but without using the talk-page, am I like lost in a deep forest. I appriciate You may have lots of more importaint things to do, but perhaps You could show me the correct direction. I can speak for my self, but just don't know where. Boeing720 (talk) 05:21, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi Boeing 720. What you need to do is go to the Articles for Deletion discussion which is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Janni Spies. It looks like there's a need for additional sourcing in the article to establish notability. Sources don't have to be in English. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:49, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for this advice. User:Reddogsix had put a notice on my own talk-page, but said nothing about where to go. The reason to why delete the article was point A6 - an event/person that's not known, by the way. So it wasn't about the sources. But shurely "the more, the merrier" applies also to the number of sources. Thanks again, Diannaa Boeing720 (talk) 19:33, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
One way to establish notability is via in-depth coverage in multiple sources. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:35, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
This sounds interesting, but I'm afraid I don't know what or how to do. Previously did Google always state how many hits there were on a certain search, but that's gone in updated versions. Are there some kind of tool to download ? Having said that, with our global philosophy ought to be enough anyway. There were 3000 guests at their wedding, a fact wich speaks for it self, in my mind atleast. But I'm still glad for Your hint, if You possiblu could direct me again. Thanks anyway ! Boeing720 (talk) 21:10, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
The number of Google hits is not what matters; what you need to do is find material that covers her in-depth, and use them as sources in the article. Stuff that is about her rather than her husband or her wedding. Do it now, as the article is in danger of being deleted. Here are a couple of sources I found: http://www.expressen.se/nyheter/dokument/janni---en-lycklig-singel-med-lyxlivet-bakom-sig/ ; http://ekstrabladet.dk/flash/dkkendte/article4749426.ece -- Diannaa (talk) 21:17, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
Once again a huge and honnest thanks for Your time and efforts. A problem to find quality deep sources (in this case), are the rather large amount of sources in general. However now I gladly have noticed that a User:Sam Sailor indeed has improved the article a lot. (But there is always possibilities for improvements.) I will remember Your hint about looking for in-depth sources, when litterature isn't available. Do You know any better search-engine than Google and Yahoo, by the way for cases like this ? Anyway, I must finish this message with a huge tanks. Boeing720 (talk) 23:12, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
I don't know of any better search engines for this purpose. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:16, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
I found this http://www.bt.dk/underholdning/opskrift-paa-en-daarlig-forretning which mainly deals with wrong advices she got - but she had also chosen much of the board herself and didn't listen to the The Executive Director (according to himself atleast). This is supported by a few lines in Your little longer Swedish link (from Expressen, a very similar tabloid to the Danish BT). Now I could use both ! But it also made me wonder - is it possible to say which is the preferable in general - a long article which is a bit shallow - or a shorter article, but which focuses on a certain importaint matter. Is it wrong to "jump" between different (webb-)sources which each may cover different parts of an article, in good depth each - or is one single deep article preferable ? If that's possible to answer, that is. I'm sorry to have bothered You, I can see You recieve lots of messages. So this question is my last for now. Boeing720 (talk) 02:17, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
In order to establish notability, the general notability guideline and the more specific notability guideline for people both call for significant in-depth coverage in multiple sources. Once notability has been established and you're no longer worried someone will nominate the article for deletion, other reliable sources can and should be used that cover specific events or aspects of the topic. If adding material that is controversial or likely to be challenged, it's best if the material is sourced to more than one reliable source. On the other hand it's not a good idea to add excessive citations (sometimes people call this "citation bombing", see the amusing essay WP:bombardment). -- Diannaa (talk) 13:57, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

I work at the National Cancer Institute and worked with Dr. Lowy to create his draft biography page. The content at the two URLs that you mention was created by Dr. Lowy so it is not really copyright infringement. Also the information on the CCR.cancer.gov site is in the public domain since it is a government website. THe information in the deleted article was referenced copiously with links to original research and strictly adhered to the guidelines of a neutral point of view.

I would appreciate getting more detailed feedback on how we can restore the page. Dr. Lowy is a national expert in his field and not having a page on Wikipedia about him is a significant gap. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quietvillager (talkcontribs) 23:33, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Diannnaa, Quietvillager is correct about the copyright status of the NIH website - it is an agency of the Federal Government and therefore its content is public domain. Whether the tone of it is acceptable for Wikipedia is of course a different question.--ukexpat (talk) 15:53, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

I have restored the draft. The website http://www.cancer.gov/news-events/press-releases/2015/lowy-named-acting-nci-director-april-2015 is in the public domain and has been tagged as such. However, the website http://www.cancer.gov/news-events/press-releases/2015/lowy-named-acting-nci-director-april-2015 is not in the public domain, so I have removed one paragraph that is too closely paraphrased from that source. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:19, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for restoring the draft. Now that the copyright issue is resolved, can I submit the draft again for review. I have looked over the article in light of conflict of interest, neutrality of point of view guidelines. I actually worked with the team at NIH to draft their Wikipedia guidelines and so am very sensitive to ensuring that we comply with all the standards and best practices of Wikipedia. Thanks for your help Quietvillager (talk) 21:23, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Username backlog

Hi, Diannaa,
I'll soon be coming to an end of a long project I've been working on and I thought about reviewing accounts in Category:Wikipedia usernames with possible policy issues which I believe a regular editor can do. Since you do so much work on WP:UAA, is there anything you can tell me about evaluating these cases? Thanks for your help! Liz Read! Talk! 00:53, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi Liz and thanks for your interest in helping out. There's two sections to the board. At the top, the bot reports suspicious usernames. Many of these are false positives, and can be removed. Others will be corporate, which I tag either with a {{uw-username}} (sample here) for those that are not being particularly spammy or promotional but still present as a username violation. For the spammier accts, I use {{uw-coi-username}}. Mildly offensive usernames or those with the word "official" in their username get a uw-username template with a custom remark such as "most people will find it offensive" or "use of the word "official" implies that you are here in an official capacity". Once you mark the case with the {{UAA|d}} template, the bot will automatically file it in the holding pen.

In the user-reported section we have fewer false positives, but many people are not aware that some terms that are offensive in English are common names/parts of names in other languages. For example, "shit", "poon", "phuc". If I'm unsure, I google it and see what turns up (for example, user:Moreshitta is likely Morenike Shitta from Nigeria!). I template the same way as above for the corporate ones. Mostly I don't block, as I found that once they understand the rule about shared accts/corporate names, they abandon the acct. Cases in the user-reported section of the board have to be manually copied into the holding pen. I don't remove the answered reports until the following day, to allow ample time for the reporting editor to review. If you would like to help out, might I suggest assessing cases in the bot-reported section and see how you fare? Again, thanks so much for offering to help with this busy board. -- Diannaa (talk) 01:22, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong page but Category:Wikipedia usernames with possible policy issues isn't divided into two sections, it's just an enormous category (containing 3,027 pages). The guideline I was going to follow was this instruction: Accounts should be removed from this category when they have been indefinitely blocked, inactive for more than one week, or are clearly not violations of the username policy. When I spot-checked a few editor accounts, some were tagged in March or May and haven't been active since so it looks like they should be removed unless the usernames are violations of the username policy.
What I believe this involves is going into the username warning on the talk page and editing out <!-- THE FOLLOWING TWO CATEGORIES (down to ***) SHOULD BE REMOVED WHEN THE USER IS BLOCKED, OR IT IS DECIDED THE NAME DOES NOT APPEAR TO VIOLATE POLICY, OR THIS TEMPLATE HAS BEEN IN PLACE FOR A WHILE WITH NO ACTION. --> [[Category:User talk pages with conflict of interest notices|{{PAGENAME}}]] {{#ifeq:{{BASEPAGENAME}}|Acumen.review|[[Category:Wikipedia usernames with possible policy issues|{{PAGENAME}}]]}}. All this action would do is remove the page from this category which isn't accomplishing a lot except for reducing the pages to a reasonable number of accounts with clear username violations. The only ambiguity is how long is "A WHILE"...a week, a month, three months? What do you think?
Does this sound good? I'd be happy to assess bot-reported accounts on the regular noticeboard as well. Liz Read! Talk! 19:29, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
Oh so sorry Liz, I thought you meant you would like to help out at WP:UAA. I'm not sure anyone is using that category to monitor for username issues. I tried to clear it our myself a while back but after a few days of work I decided it was not worthwhile to maintain it, as it's redundant to the holding pen. The instructions on the category page says to remove names after they've been there for a week, and the holding pen page says the same. What I am currently doing for the holding pen is leaving them in there for about a month. If you want to work on the category, I suggest you could remove any that have no edits in the last month (to match what I am doing in the holding pen), and report at WP:UAA any that you think need admin attention. If you would like to help at WP:UAA as well (or instead), that would be awesome too. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:48, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
Yes, it is kind of like chipping away at a mountain with a trowel, there are so many pages! But I just got done with categorizing a couple thousand uncategorized articles so I might just work on the project in bits and pieces. What I've noticed whenever I've read about username policy or read over WP:UAA noticeboard is how crucial it is whether or not the account is active. I see some reports coming in on accounts that have been inactive for months or years so they aren't going to respond to a message on their talk page.
I'm also impressed how frequently the admin response at WP:UAA is to talk with the editor rather than do a reactive block. Starting a dialogue with an editor is not always the approach taken in other administrative areas but I think in cases where the usernames aren't intentionally offensive, it is usually the case that the editor didn't know their username violated Wikipedia's policies. Liz Read! Talk! 20:40, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
There's lots of cases too where people think they are naming their article, when actually they are choosing a user name. It looks like COI editing, but it's actually a rookie mistake, more frequent than you might think. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:44, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

File:35 Engineer Regiment Insignia.jpg

I am told you are the person to convince about undeleting a recently deleted image. This image is owned by 35 Engineer Regiment and was registered as an official regimental insignia by the HQ of The Corps of the Royal Engineers in early 2012. I was the Regimental Second-in-Command from Jun 2012 until Jul 2014 and can vouch for the Unit's ownership of the image. It is an original piece of art that is continuously and extensivley used by the Unit in a professional capacity. Are you able to help?--Christian Fortey (talk) 15:33, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

The reason the file was deleted was for a lack of source information. Where did you get the image? Is it available online anywhere? -- Diannaa (talk) 15:38, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

Non-free image sizes

I saw this at File:The Queen of Versailles.jpg. I wish it could get resolved, but it isn't. It drives me batty. Do you have any thoughts on the matter? Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:14, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

I find this SVG debate quite baffling. If we want pngs and jpgs, why do we have a template {{Should be SVG}}?? Baffling. Stefan2 even says that the code to write in SVG file could be copyrightable in and of itself, ie, generate a second copyright in addition to the artwork. I have no idea what the rule should be, but see no advantage to huge images, because the info box default is only a couple hundred pixels tops, so we don't need a bigger image. The vast majority of readers will never click on the logo to view it embiggened.

For the Queen of Versilles, I have cropped out the DVD box but it still needs to be smaller. The bot can make a pass and finish it -- Diannaa (talk) 23:34, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback. I am equally baffled. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:37, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
My 2¢ worth: vector artwork is generally preferable to raster for such content as logos, infographics, diagrams, & plots, for various reasons, so the template is useful to identify candidates for conversion. But I don’t think it should be used at all for non-free content, as a (well made) SVG can be used to create high-quality renderings at arbitrarily large sizes regardless of its nominal measure in pixels, and publishing a ‘value-added’ derivative of a non-free original exceeds any reasonable interpretation of “fair use” so shouldn‘t be encouraged. I wouldn‘t mind seeing all our non-free SVGs (and PDFs) replaced by their ~16-kpx PNG previews, but that idea was shot down pretty promptly when raised at VPIL a couple of years ago.
I can see some hand-written SVG code falling under the sort of copyright that covers software, but most SVGs are ‘mechanically’ produced, being essentially the output of a data-processing application, and intrinsically no more copyrightable than a scan or tracing, or than a typeset document. (Where a software licence may restrict usage of the program’s output—algorithmic, as distinct from incorporated stock imagery or the like—that’s not something we need concern ourselves with, being a non-copyright contractual issue between the licensee and the vendor.) Under US law and this site’s policies, intellectual property applies to a work’s essence, not to the data underlying a digital representation any more than to the medium of a physical instantiation.—Odysseus1479 22:17, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

The template has two fields with the same name, so only the second one will display. There is no current A-class review underway, not that I could find -- Diannaa (talk) 12:50, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
Yes, well, the article underwent an A-Class review back in '06, but failed. As me and EyeTruth are planning on making it a featured article, we wish to give the A-Class bit another go before nominating. The instructions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/A-Class review simply says add "A-Class=current" in the project banner, but no "currently undergoing" link seems to appear? Jonas Vinther • (Click here to collect your price!) 15:57, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
Okay, now I get it. I have archived the previous A-class review to Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Operation Barbarossa/archive1. Thank you for re-opening the RfC[12]. I reduced the claim slightly because the table of contents is not in dispute.―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 18:36, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

Obviously it is indeed under dispute, as it has been repeatedly removed and restored, so I have restored my original question. Comments on the wording of the RFC may be placed elsewhere, but the question itself should not be altered. -- Diannaa (talk) 18:44, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

A little help

I'm contemplating doing something stupid and/or crazy (but in the spirit of BOLD and/or IAR), but I need a little help - an extra set of eyes to make sure that the original copyedit I asked for left nothing for want. If it is not too much trouble, could I ask you to look over the material to make sure everything is spelled correctly and using the appropriate grammar? TomStar81 (Talk) 13:07, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi TomStar. Please provide a link to the material you want me to look at Thanks -- Diannaa (talk) 13:14, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
Its currently sitting here. Thanks in advance, TomStar81 (Talk) 13:47, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
Okay I have done a super light copy edit, fixing punctuation, dashes, missing words, etc. I could prolly reduce it by about 100 words without impacting the meaning at all, so let me know if you want me to do another pass. Best, -- Diannaa (talk) 21:20, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
If you think that you can say more with less then go for it, I've got no objections. In the long run that would probably be for the best too, since I think some people are going to be less than thrilled with the idea of losing this process. Less said with more impact will probably help win people over to my/our side. TomStar81 (Talk) 22:15, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

But for reasons I don´t understand the article was labeled with a peedy deletion nomination and got removed. What have I missed? Can the article be restored if things sort out as a failture?

Once one of our OTRS volunteers has had a chance to review the email, the page can be restored, assuming everything checks out okay. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:42, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

About Galaxy Fraulein Yuna page.

I heard of this name before, since I'm a big anime/manga fan. I just had recently finished consuming the Yuna games and OVAs. I don't believe a complete account of the Yuna franchise (1992–1998, 2008) in English exists because a lot of people in the Anglo-sphere who dared to build comprehensive websites about GFY (Galaxy Fraulein Yuna) never finished the goal of translating all of the games. It's possible to transform this article into a good article, but because the franchise as a whole is not as popular as Puella Magi Madoka Magica (2011–present), there's not many edits. Is it possible for me to transfer this page to my sandbox? }I6ixce93IxI{ 20:49, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Link to my sandbox : User:Gixce93/sandbox }I6ixce93IxI{ 20:50, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
No, because it's a copyright violation, cobbled together from multiple online sources. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:52, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
Well, yes, it looks like such. I agree that this article (at least one small portion of it) has copyright-violation parts, but it can be rewritten. I see hope that someone, either me, you, or anyone else, can try the task making article about Yuna, and then transform it into a good article. I like your point of view, because that's a possibility. }I6ixce93IxI{ 20:57, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, but we can't host copyright material on this wiki, not even in a sandbox. And it's not a small portion; 95.6% of this page has been copied; and 43.2% of this page; and 81.6% of this page. Virtually everything in the article has been copy-pasted from those three sites. -- Diannaa (talk) 21:03, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
I feel like this article should be either be redirected to Red Entertainment or just deleted. Both decisions are good. Anyone including me can create that article (Galaxy Fraulein Yuna) from scratch without copying-and-pasting any part of the text from the soon-to-be-deleted article. But I can't do it immediately. }I6ixce93IxI{ 21:09, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
By the way, did you heard of the Yuna franchise before? Did you watch the Yuna OVAs? Did you play the Yuna video games? Do you like anime? }I6ixce93IxI{ 21:26, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
I only visited the article in conjunction with copyvio clean-up work. -- Diannaa (talk) 21:34, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
Good job! :) }I6ixce93IxI{ 21:36, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
It turned out the deleted article was named Galaxy Fräulein Yuna with the third "a" in the title being ä with an diaeresis (diacritic) and not normal a, it was renamed before you deleted it, because in Deutschland the word "Fraulein" is spelled with that diacritic. Most other usages of the name "Galaxy Fraulein Yuna" don't use the umlaut. }I6ixce93IxI{ 23:42, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

File:The Europe Prize.jpg

Thanks for flagging up the "missing evidence of permission" issue on the photo I recently uploaded: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:The_Europe_Prize.jpg.

I have now updated the "Permission" entry with a page on the website of the Council of Europe, the organisation for whom I work, which explicitly provides permission for this photograph to be used "on any medium, provided that the source is indicated" (which it is).

I hope this now resolves the issue (I seem unable to "remove the template" flagging up this issue, as requested, but trust that this will now be reviewed positively and the flag removed).

Thanks, GAKM GAKM (talk) 14:31, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, but this permission is not liberal enough for our purposes, which require that the material be released for any purpose whatsoever, including commercial use. The disclaimer specifies "No charge may be made for such use, which must be private or concerned with information and education on the Council’s work." So the image will have to be deleted, unless the copyright holder releases it under a compatible license. Please see WP:donating copyright materials and WP: consent for instructions as to how this is done. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:38, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for this info - I am now looking into getting the relevant person here to grant permission for this photo to be used "for any purpose whatsoever" (and of course to inform you by e-mail, as you request). Alternatively, I may just take a pic of the darned Prize myself, and do likewise! GAKM (talk) 15:49, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

migrating old IP edit history with current one

hello diannaa,

i'm not sure if you remember me, as i made a contentious edit in mathematics that sparked a sort of unexpected vitriol (the guy that was allegedly anti hindu).

just curious if the edit/contribution history of my old IP can be merged with my current one? my old IP was 174.3.213.121

would really like that history under my current IP. maybe i should make an account so you guys can roll it all into one. is that possible?

tyvm edit: i want a certain account name that's apparently not registered (the maintenance bot says it's not). can you check if it's possible to register the ID Broly? the wiki history/contribs/talk page of the username suggest it doesn't exist.

i just need it for english wiki (not all). it doesn't seem fair someone gets dibs on the name across all of wiki, esp if they're not active on english wiki at all.

96.52.168.137 (talk) 18:32, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

The contrib history of the two IPs cannot be combined, nor could their editing history be incorporated into an account, should you create one. There's already a user named "Broly" on the Japanese wiki, so you won't be able to use that name. Usernames are in effect across all wikis, per the recent meta:Single User Login finalisation announcement. The best place to check the availability of usernames is at Meta, here. The software will not let you create an account under a name that is super similar to one that already exists. For example the username "Glen Coe" would be disallowed, because there's already a "GlenCoe". Hope this helps. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:10, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

This is to dispute the deletion of Galaxy Fräulein Yuna. The contents of the original article was from the original Galaxy Fraulein Yuna, which was deleted also for a different reason (redirection to a deleted page). The source you have mentioned was actually the one which copied the article from Wikipedia, instead of the other way around. Kindly check and verify. Thank you. THE IMPERIOUS DORK (talk) 05:48, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

The article was deleted as a copyright violation, because all of the material was copied from here, here, and here. Sorry, it can't be restored for that reason. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:16, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Creating Draft:John Mollison

Hi Diannaa (talk). I may have made a mistake by submitting the John Mollison draft for re-review. I wanted to know if the new references were usable and if the subject was notable. What I submitted was not to be the article. Because it was a draft in my user space I didn't think the blatant copy/paste job mattered, another error on my part. This is my first Biography of a living person but not the first article I've created, please take a look if you like. May I ask if you think the references are usable and if so if the subject is notable? Samf4u (talk) 21:37, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, assessing new articles is not really my main focus, and I don't have the time to invest right now. -- Diannaa (talk) 22:01, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
So you have the time to delete my work but not to help. Got it. Samf4u (talk) 00:01, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
It's more a question to sticking to the skills and specialties that I am good at. Sorry if this choice hurts your feelings. -- Diannaa (talk) 00:03, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Your first apology is accepted. Don't worry about my feelings sweetheart. Samf4u (talk) 01:17, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
It looks like FoCuSandLeArN is willing to help you work on this, so I have restored the draft (minus the copyvio material) and placed the additional potential sources at the bottom of the draft. Best, -- Diannaa (talk) 03:35, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
My most sincere thank you. Samf4u (talk) 20:06, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Turtles in captivity

I just noticed (when a hatnote pointing to the article) was removed, that you deleted the article turtles in captivity back in February, because it was supposedly a copyright violation of an article at http://www.allpics4u.com/nature/beautiful-animals.html.

The problem is, it's the supposed "source" that is the copyright violation, as the original text is from here on Wikipedia, and it was reused on that site without attribution (I know because I helped contribute to the main turtle article, from where the text was copied verbatim, at a date before that blog post went up, and the text was already there; heck, it's still there now!). In short, you got it backwards. I don't think the article needs to be restored, as it was a stub that was simply the exact same as the section at the main article that had never been expanded; it is unneeded per WP:SUMMARY. But the point is that the situation was approached backwards.

It know it can be difficult to proper police copyright violations (which is a very necessary task) because of these sorts of unattributed copying from Wikipedia (which actually violate the copyrights upon which the site works and are a violation of the terms of use), but it's important not to remove proper work from Wikipedia because someone else committed a copyright violation, not a Wikipedia contributor. oknazevad (talk) 00:58, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Hermann Fegelein

D -- Has the intra-library loan book come it yet? Kierzek (talk) 13:45, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Yes, it arrived yesterday. I have started reading it and it's the Heritage Day long weekend so I should be in a position to get something done real soon. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:47, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Great, have a relaxing time. What they are looking for is: "how Fegelein was assessed as a military commander? Obviously he was resented as a social climber and opportunist, but some assessment of his leadership capability, or even his status among the men he commanded, should be in the article given that he was a divisional commander." I recall he was seen as someone who did not mind sacrificing his men for a task and of course, did not mind commanding non-military actions (to say the least), such as, the Pripyat swamps punitive operation. Kierzek (talk) 14:54, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Okay, I will watch for this kind of content whilst reading the book. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:22, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
