Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Transfermarkt

Since much of its content is user-edited, Transfermarkt is not considered a reliable source. Please do not cite the website in articles. Thank you. Sir Sputnik (talk) 22:28, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello Demt1298! Your additions to 2022 U.S. Open Cup have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 22:41, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

April 2022

Hi Demt1298! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. • Gene93k (talk) 17:09, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

stub vs. start status for ¡Americano! (musical)

@Demt1298: - Thanks for reviewing ¡Americano! (musical). I was a little surprised to see that you marked it as a Stub rather than Start, and I wonder what you'd want to see improved to lift it up to Start class? Thanks! - Kenirwin/(talk) 15:23, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

@Kenirwin I viewed the article as a synopsis of the production, with some added content showing how it has been reviewed by media, but I felt there is more to be added/edited. I was looking for it to be structured in a way to not only show the significance of this musical, but also include more information about the production itself. Information like music included in the play, more in-depth summarization of the play (maybe by act or other structure), or even initial actors involved could also be meaningful to this article. I am a pretty new Wikipedian, so my marking as a Stub might be a little beginners ineptitude. To me the difference between stub and start is a bit ambiguous. Any feedback a more experienced editor is appreciated. Demt1298 (talk) 17:49, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Spurgeon

Hello, I'm Evrik. An edit that you recently made to Talk:William H. Spurgeon III seemed to be a test and has been reverted. If you want to practice editing, please use your sandbox. If you think a mistake was made, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! --evrik (talk) 02:29, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

@Evrik I made the edit on purpose. I was using the WP Scouting Assessment Index to work on anything that fell under ??? for either class or importance. I understood William H. Spurgeon III was a redirect, but William H. Spurgeon had no mention of Scouting. I was unsure why William H. Spurgeon III had been added to WP Scouting, but decided to address the missing importance level to address the ??? from the Assessment Index. Because your edit summary had no explanation of why it was undone, I undid your revision. I then noted you had undone another revision on the West Palm Beach Council Redirect, so I checked the Assessment Index and noted there were no ???. I am not sure if the first time I looked at the Assessment Index if the ??? were an error, but I was just working to clean up assessments. Demt1298 (talk) 02:40, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
  • If you look at the more than 2200 redirects found here, User:WP 1.0 bot/Tables/Project/Scouting, you'll see that redirects do not get listed with class or importance values. If there is a ???? it's because the template is wrong somehow. William H. Spurgeon III is a placeholder right now. He was active in Scouting, and as you may know, he lived behind the orange curtain. As soo a I can find more biographical info on Bill III, I'm going to creat a stub. --evrik (talk) 15:45, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
@Evrik An error in the template is what I finally assumed after reviewing the Assessment Index last night. Thank you for the follow up. Good luck on your research on Bill III. Demt1298 (talk) 15:51, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

Allen Webster “Web” Hawkins

"Orphan" isn't about how many links to other articles are present in and leading out from Hawkins' article; it's about how many links in other articles are or aren't coming in to Hawkins. If you look at the "What links here", you'll see that there are no other articles linking to him: other than a redirect from the "Allen Webster Hawkins" form, the only pages linking to him are in talk or user space, with absolutely no articles containing links to Hawkins' article. PK results in draw

See Penalty shoot-out (association football), specifically Statistical record to find out that a game that ends as a draw is a draw. The PK is separate from the game that was played before it. EddieV2003 (talk) 03:53, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

I understand your point of view from a statistical record point of view, but the following is quoted from the article you are referencing. "A draw is a common result in football. Shoot-outs are only used in competitions that require a match-winner at the end of the game – this is predominantly in knockout "cup" ties, as opposed to round-robin "leagues"; they decide which team progresses to the next round of a tournament, or win it". The section of the article you made the correction too was Competition Fixtures not the statistics portion of the article. Listing it as a Draw under competition fixture that "requires a match-winner" makes the article appear as if there is no match-winner. Your comment "games decided by a PK shootout are draws" is true for statistics but not when determining match winners. Demt1298 (talk) 22:23, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
I looked current IFAB Laws of the Games and this is what Law 10-2 states.
The team scoring the greater number of goals is the winner. If both teams score no goals or an equal number of goals, the match is drawn. When competition rules require a winning team after a drawn match or home-and-away tie, the only permitted procedures to determine the winning team are:
away goals rule
two equal periods of extra time not exceeding 15 minutes each
kicks from the penalty mark
A combination of the above procedures may be used.
It states "to determine the winning team". Again from a statistical point of view I agree it is a draw, but for a match result it has been used to determine the winning team. Demt1298 (talk) 22:39, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

MLS Playoff Games Stats in Infoboxes

Hello! I have seen that you have made many updates to Austin FC players that were playing in the playoffs this year. MLS Playoff caps do not go towards the caps that are listed in the infobox. An example is Ethan Finlay who has 34 MLS regular season appearances this year, and 3 playoff appearances. his infobox should only have the 34 regular season gams he played. Please make sure in the future that you are being mindful of this. Thank you! Ewyourfaceew (talk) 00:47, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

For the 2022 MLS Re-Entry Draft, I made the rookie error of copying information from the MLS rules. I did this to have rules of the draft included in the article in the same wording as you would find on the MLS rules page. I understand that information on Wikipedia should not be copy-written, I was just trying to ensure anyone who used this Wikipedia article could understand how the Re-Entry draft worked. I see another admin has reverted all of the article. I understand the rules from the MLS rules page, but not the entire article. Any feedback would be appreciated.
As for the 2023 U.S. Open Cup qualification, I am unsure how this is copy-write. All I have done is built a third round schedule just as there are first and second round schedules/results for this tournament. I did thus so that anyone who uses Wikipedia to look into this tournament has a summary of the games played and upcoming games. I don't know how to do this without it "qualifying" as copy-write, if it is strictly the schedule of the tournament. I follow multiple football Wikipedia articles that do this exact thing (2022 U.S. Open Cup qualification, 2022 U.S. Open Cup, 2022-23 UEFA Champions League, 2022-23 UEFA Europa League, etc.) Any feedback on this would be appreciated. Images in infobox

Hello @Demt1298. I see that you are adding infoboxes to several articles. Thank you for that. One thing I noticed, however, is that when you include an image in the infobox that it is not done according to the MOS. In particular, WP:INFOBOXIMAGE says:

When adding an image to an infobox, thumbnails should NOT be used. Simply supplying the file name will work. For example, to use File:Image PlaceHolder.png, you can simply use |image=Image PlaceHolder.png. Captions should be specified with the |caption= parameter. Every infobox is different and the documentation for the infobox in question should be consulted for the proper parameters to match the image and caption.

Additionally, Category:Pages using infoboxes with thumbnail images advise:

To fix

Do not use the full image syntax:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead, just supply the name of the image. So, in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg

and optionally:

|caption=Some image caption.

Just something for you to keep in mind as add more infoboxes. Thanks. — Archer1234 (t·c) 22:46, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

Dayton Dutch Lions have two different ones, South Bend Lions FC, and Toledo Villa FC both have one already. USL League Two needed some reorganization so you might not have seen them. I will work on USL League Two later, NWSL took priority this time. Demt1298 (talk) 04:01, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

@Catfurball I apologize, I see that the Toledo Villa FC is for UWS, but will be the template for the USL League Two side. I see you redirected the userbox for Kalamazoo from NPSL to one with USL in the title. Excellent, I wasn't sure if a renaming was necessary.Demt1298 (talk) 19:44, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

MOS:FLAG

Hi there, Demt1298. Thanks for adding the infobox to Boualem Bouferma. Going forward, please do not use flags there per MOS:FLAG. I have removed them at Boualem Bouferma. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 22:25, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

@Robby.is.on Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate all recommendations for improvements. Demt1298 (talk) 01:45, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
You're welcome. Here's a few more:
  • Years in the infobox should be "2015–2016", not "2015-16" – see MOS:DATERANGE.
  • Height is written in metres, not centimetres – see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Consensus#Height.
  • You can leave out infobox parameters that aren't applicable, for example "embed", "collegeyears" etc. for most players as college sports is a US thing and "nationalyears" etc. for players who didn't play or in all likelihood will never play at international level.
Robby.is.on (talk) 10:08, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

WPSL Team info

Bit awkward as they tried to buy and rename the nighthawks and worked with them last season but then went behind their back this year and started their own team. so putting Nighthawks info instead of blank was almost the start of some drama ha. 2600:1700:7E40:4A8F:B1B2:2107:EAA3:B56A (talk) 00:14, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Dashes, overlinking, flags

Hi Demt1298. Thanks for adding infoboxes to footballer articles. Going forward, please consider these three minor issues which up till now I have been trying to for you:

  • For date ranges, please use en dashes instead of hyphens, so you get "1997–2000" instead of "1997-2000". See MOS:DATERANGE for details.
  • Per MOS:OVERLINK "names of subjects with which most readers will be at least somewhat familiar" should not be linked. These include countries such as "Argentina", "Peru" etc.
  • The flags you added here violate MOS:FLAG.

Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 18:07, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

@Robby.is.on Thank You! I took the advise you gave awhile back and tried to implement it.
  • I need to remember the en dash, I do make that mistake.
  • I don't understand the Overlink, where am I linking too much? An example would be helpful.
  • I have stopped putting flags in Infoboxes, but was up until your last feedback, so you will likely still find them in the Infoboxes I did previously. Are you suggesting we don't use the flags on the page either? I am asking because the reference specifically mentioned Infoboxes and not pages. A more specific reference would be helpful.
Appreciated, 18:24, 17 March 2023 (UTC) Demt1298 (talk) 18:24, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
Oh, heh, now that you mention it, I see that I've been to your Talk page before. ;-)
  • Yep.
  • "Argentina" was linked here, for example. I removed the linking in this change.
  • Are you suggesting we don't use the flags on the page either? Right. You added flags to the section listing clubs. Actually, that section can probably be removed altogether as it just duplicates the infobox you created.

Invitation

Hello Demt1298!

  • The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Sandbox

Pages in your personal sandbox are not allowed to be categorized as if they were finished articles. This is not a suggestion that you're free to ignore, it's an absolute rule that you must follow. Bearcat (talk) 16:19, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

@BearcatI am not ignoring a rule, I am asking for you to reference that rule. This should be a simple process for a Veteran editor when asked by another editor.Demt1298 (talk) 16:21, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
It's at WP:USERNOCAT, which I already linked in my edit summaries and thus already provided you a "reference" for, which means that you're "demanding" that I do something that I already did. Bearcat (talk) 16:23, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
@Bearcat I apologize that I didn't recognize your edit summary as your reference, I guess the brevity of it confused me. But thank you for improving my understanding of Wikipedia. I will make sure I do a better job trying to understand an editors shorthand, even if they haven't clearly explained it. And after requesting with the word please, which was responded to with digital yelling. I appreciate all guidance more experienced editors provide, no matter how it is accomplished. Your WikiProject tagging of Hiddensee (island)

Hey, I was just wondering how come you tagged Hiddensee (island) with WikiProject Nudity in this diff? The article was created by someone else and is currently a content fork of Hiddensee, which was tagged with WikiProject Germany and WikiProject Islands, so I’ve done the same for Hiddensee (island). Unless Hiddensee is well known for nudity or something? I don’t know much about the topic since I’ve only stumbled across these pages as a New Pages Reviewer. Fork99 (talk) 18:38, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

It came up in WP Nudity as a potential article to be included in the WikiProject because of the information under sights and museums about being textile free. The purpose of tagging it into WP Nudity is so other editors in that project can review this bit of information and see if there is more information to expand on within this article. I did a quick look at the Hiddensee article and it doesn't reference anything about nudity, so this is information specifically in the Hiddensee (island) article. On a personal side not, living in Germany for 3 years I noted that nudity is more widely accepted there and it tends to be around bodies of water, but I do not have any personal experience or knowledge related to Hiddensee. There's a ton, and i mean a TON of soccer-related articles that are not cited at all. Although the drive hasn't officially began yet, you can test out your citation skills on these articles:
For soccer match articles, I often find news sources or official webpage of the matches to source the point stats, as these are more reliable than a random score database. Don't hesitate to ask me anything! I am here to help :) CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 06:54, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
