Seems to me this editor is correct -- that account is covered by the gallery, library, and museum exception. --jpgordon::==( o ) 17:54, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for contacting me. It may be possible that the GLAM exception is no longer valid. The guidelines there actually state that the user account should be [theirs] alone (not shared) and should not be named after [their] institution. The block was also made following an OTRS conversation and a desire to control and own the Toronto Public Library article. There's also an interesting conversation on the talk page there about shared accounts for GLAM participants. In all honesty, thanks for contacting me. If you find some information (either historical or current) about the exception, I would sincerely like to read it. Hope you have a great weekend! Cindy(talk) 01:32, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
Deleting "Rixton (band)"
Hello! I am the author of "Rixton (band)", an article which was recently deleted, cited as "unambiguously promotional" and "lacking explanation of significance". I would like some clarification, however, because I would like to know how to better explain its significance (the band is very significant, as it has over 1,000,000 views on YouTube, has made made global music news with organizations like MTV, and has been played on Sirus XM Hits 1). I am not very experienced at writing articles, so I can understand that I probably did a lot of things wrong. For the other citation, "unambiguously promotional content", I would like to have it pointed out where I was promoting the band. I am in no way affiliated with Rixton or Scooter Braun, and I do not personally know any of them in any way. In fact, I am not even from the same country as the band, so I would have no reason to promote them, and any promotion was accidental. If you could please tell me where I promoted them, I would be more than happy to fix it. Thanks! :)Nick towne98 (talk) 18:20, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
- If I may butt in here (I had Cindamuse's Talk page on my Watch list and never took it off, and saw this interesting conversation), one thing to remember Nick is that YouTube acclaim or views does not equate to notability in Wikipedia's standards. In fact, if that's all that's mentioned, it often makes an article on a band or a performer suspect. Take a look at Wikipedia's guidelines at WP:GNG and WP:BAND. Rixton may in fact meet those guidelines, but you need to prove it in your article by listing, mentioning, or quoting – and citing via footnote – the relevant non-YouTube reliable source mentions. In addition, a new article on a subject which has already had an article deleted (as this one had in August 2013), is automatically going to be under extreme scrutiny and will probably need to be bullet-proof to avoid a similar deletion. If you still feel the band meets the notability requirements linked above, and still feel it merits an encyclopedia article, you could create a draft on your user-space, or via the WP:Articles for creation, or check in with the WP:Teahouse, and have someone vet the completed draft before you post it on Wikipedia. That way, you are probably saved the disappointment of having your article deleted (happens to most all of us at some point, but we learn from it). Anyway, I'll let Cindamuse talk now. :) Softlavender (talk) 23:03, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Nick! Thanks for contacting me. In all honesty, I think Softlavender said it very well. There is often semantic confusion over the definition of publicity, promotion, and advertising. One of the ways to better understand the criteria pertaining to appropriate inclusion on Wikipedia is to determine if the article has been written or edited in an attempt to manage the public's perception of the subject of the article. Common subjects of articles that are often written to promote include persons or groups. I would venture to say that we see promotion of a new unremarkable band at least once every five minutes. Simply announcing the existence of a subject, while failing to indicate how or why the subject may be important or significant would be considered inappropriate. Essentially, in this particular case, the article was merely promoting awareness of the band, rather than presenting notability. Notability must be established and presented through reliable and independent sources before inclusion on Wikipedia can be accepted. You can read more about our notability guidelines HERE and HERE. Hope this helps. If you have more questions, feel free to contact me anytime. Cindy(talk) 01:52, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Cindy and Softlavender! :) I think I'll try submitting a draft to the Articles for Creation. Thanks for the help with that, especially since I'm new to writing articles. Nick towne98 (talk) 00:19, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Muckle book as a made-up word
I didn't invent it. The turn of phrase was used in the book I cited. I looked up "muckle," in this case, as a variation of "mickle" and thus the word has the meaning of "very large." The Oxford English Dictionary defines "muckle" as a variation of "mickle," but also has the separate definition of "A heavy maul used for killing cod." Separately, the OED defines "mickle" first as an adjective for "great" particularly with respect to size, bulk or stature. I didn't find many web references to it, including on WP, but I agree it might not warrant an encyclopedia entry. I didn't have my copy of the OED handy for reference, but it's a moot point as the article is deleted. Varricknunez (talk) 18:59, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for contacting me. In essence, the phrase or descriptive "muckle book" rests within the imagination of Ian Rankin. He made it up. Outside of a possible mention in his article, it is inappropriate to create an encyclopedia article about the subject. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions. The Index (Kalamazoo College)
Hello Cindamuse, I created a page for Kalamazoo College's student newspaper earlier today and noticed recently that you redirected it to the general Kalamazoo College page. I'm still a novice on Wikipedia and completely understand why the redirect occurred. Would it be possible for me to retrieve the code and content that I added thus far? I would really like to expand on what was written in order to have an article that conforms to Wikipedia's notability standards. Best, Gkey12 (talk) 02:24, 30 March 2014 (UTC)Gkey12
- Welcome to Wikipedia! Glad you are here. I went ahead and userfied the article to your userspace at User:Gkey12/The Index (Kalamazoo College). At this point, the article needs to clearly state how the subject is important and/or significant. Then, support the claims in the article through significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. If you need help or have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line. Best regards, Cindy(talk) 02:47, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
BULL (student magazine)
Hi there, I was wondering if I could get the work back from the article BULL (student magazine) as I am working more on the article. Thank you Notatory (talk) 05:51, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- No problem! I've placed a copy on the talk page of your draft. Notice that I've also removed the Wikiproject template and categories. We can restore these if the article is moved to the mainspace. Cindy(talk) 02:24, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the welcome
Hi Cindamuse, Thanks for welcoming me to Wikipedia! It was a shame that the page was deleted as its was intended to provide information on a valuable open source resource. I attempted to use the same format at similar projects on Wikipedia, such as Twinkle_(software), Slrn, SipX and others. I see now that the text used in the opening paragraph should have been modified, but I am a little confused at how to proceed, specifically weather I should attempt to modify the content or abandon it completely lest it be deleted again? Auscaster (talk) 11:17, 30 March 2014 (UTC) Kam Low Heya! Just wanted to say thanks again. I have read all the information you send me and reposted the article to my user space: User:Auscaster/LibSourcey. I'm sure you're busy, but I would love any feedback if you have a spare moment. Auscaster (talk) 12:56, 30 March 2014 (UTC) Kam Low
- At this point, I've deleted the content again, due to blatant copyright violations and promotional content. When I deleted the initial version, I placed some information on your talk page, which specifically addressed this violation and how to move forward from here. Please do not post this content again. Understand that editors who persistently violate the copyright policy are summarily blocked. In all sincerity, nobody wants that. We would rather have you around to help build the project. Best regards, Cindy(talk) 02:09, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Agricultural Research Organization - Volcani Center
Hi Cindamuse - I added citations to outside sources (books, journal articles, websites, newspaper articles, OECD report, EC reports, and others) to support all statements and demonstrate notability. I endeavored to input all the citations correctly. Also, I updated the organization history in accordance with references I uncovered. Since I believe that all issues are now addressed, I removed the issue tags. Hope you will agree. Thanks again for all the work you did on this page; I learned a lot about Wikipdia from it :). [email protected] (talk) 04:27, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
- While you've sufficiently addressed notability, unfortunately, you've also introduced more issues. My general editing process would simply go ahead and clean up the issues, but the cleanup keeps getting reverted, so I've just gone ahead and placed the maintenance templates. Feel free to contact me again if you have questions. Cindy(talk) 06:15, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi - As the last person to have a look at my requested edits on the Cheadle Hulme School Talk Page I wonder if you could look at the most recent couple I posted on there?
I've used some secondary sources and have added more explanations.
Your help would be much appreciated.

Deletion of Wakefield City Police
Hi there - I see that you've deleted Wakefield City Police - could it be reinstated? It's a page about a statutory police force within West Yorkshire which was in operation between 1848 and 1968; similar in vein to Bradford City Police and Barnsley Borough Police etc. BNC85 (talk) 12:02, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, there was nothing to indicate how the subject is significant or important. And all of the sources provided were self-published. I would recommend working on a draft in a subpage of your userspace. In all honesty, when you compare one article to another, it generally just brings other poorly written articles into focus, resulting in their deletion as well. Cindy(talk) 12:13, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me - I think I mistakenly put 'Self published' as I couldn't find an publisher, but the book has been loaned from a library and has an ISBN reference of ISBN: X5006479X6. I would suggest that it is significant as it's a historical organisation, a former police force within the United Kingdom and notable as it links in with the history of the City of Wakefield. On this merit, would it be suitable to be reinstated? Many thanks in advance BNC85 (talk) 12:19, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
Deletion of Lakedale Power Tools
Hi, noticed that you have deleted lakedale power tools page, could i please have some tips on exactly where i went wrong in the article and how i can resolve it to get the page created, can you give me a copy on my userpage? thanks. Yesson20(talk)
- The article was deleted due to the lack of asserted significance or importance. At the same time, it was blatantly and wholly promotional. Essentially, it stated that the store existed, that customer service was important, and then you listed all the products and tools that the store offers. As sources, you simply listed all the distributors or points of sale. When we create encyclopedic articles, we must establish notability for the organization through significant coverage in reliable and independent sources. Accordingly, the article was deemed highly promotional and lacking significance. I've userfied the article to User:Yesson20/Lakedale Power Tools. Please make sure to review the notability guidelines. When you are ready, you can either contact me or send the article to the Articles for Creation team, who will review the article then move it to the mainspace when they determine that it meets the minimum requirements. As a side note, please make sure to sign all of your comments by placing four tildes at the end, i.e., ~~~~. This will trigger the software to automatically sign your name with the appropriate links and date of your post. Hope this helps. Cindy(talk) 01:00, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
Deletion of 960 Music Group
Hello, I noticed that you have deleted 960 Music Group page, where did i go wrong please? I really want to get the page created and or re-instated , and can you give me a copy on my userpage? Femismyth (talk) 12:54, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- Essentially, you failed to indicate how the subject is significant or important. The content established that the company exists and has a few musicians on their label. The sources provided were videos, blogs, and a couple of article that merely mentioned the name "960 Music Group" in passing. Has the organization done anything significant or important? Has the organization received any honors or awards? When we look at notability for organizations, we consider whether or not the subject has received significant coverage in reliable and independent sources. Once we determine this, the article can be retained. Does the organization meet this threshold? Your best bet is to do some research to find coverage of the organization. We're not looking for coverage of the bands or musicians on the label. We're looking for significant coverage about 960 Music Group. Hope this helps. I notice that you already have the article at Articles for Creation, so I guess you have the copy. If you have more questions, please feel free to drop me a line. Best regards, Cindy(talk) 01:24, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

I will not restore this article. Imagine Dragons' Second Studio Album
Hey there! I noticed you deleted the "Imagine Dragons' second studio album" article, but I am a bit annoyed that you didn't at least notify me or put it up for speedy deletion instead! I honestly thought it was a reasonable article, and it took nearly 4 hours to write up. Is there any way I can at least recover it so that I can move 4 hours worth of written material over to my user space? - Question for you. Why did you continue to create the same article over and over again when you were continually told that it was inappropriate? Did you see the reason for deletion as noted at the article? Did you compare the article you wrote to the one we already have on the same subject? Do you think it is necessary to have several different articles on the same subject? Cindy(talk) 15:51, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

- When we create articles on Wikipedia, our process includes indicating where we found the information to write the material. We retain articles in accordance with the general notability guidelines, which require significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. We also have the notability guidelines for albums. The minimum threshold required to forgo speedy deletion is an assertion of significance or importance. In all honesty, this article was not supported by any sources of any kind. Rather than outright deletion, I opted to simply redirect the article to the artist's article. Hope this helps. Cleanup tag resolution question: 07 April 2014
Hi Cindamuse, You left a couple of cleanup tags on a page I was editing (and trying to cleanup). I use this resource in my research so have an interest in trying to make it accurate: this one Experimental Factor Ontology I believe I (and I see someone else too) have tidied this up now 'I think'. How does one normally go about finding out if it meets copy guidelines now? How does one normally go about resolving those tags? I didn't want to just delete them without asking. Thanks for your help. Schnagglepuss (talk) 10:16, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Thank you! Help with my new wiki page
Thank you for your help on my new page 'Mark Levinson' and for helping to resolve the pages for the director vs the audio company! Im new to wikipedia editing, first only providing copy edits, then with time feeling a little more bold to add content. Im excited to help improve scientific articles and promote scientific education, so took a (risk) at creating a new page for the director of the documentary that tells the story of work at CERN's particle accelerator. I suppose we all make mistakes in the process of learning, and I felt I had erred in creating q page for someone who didnt meet the significance criteria. You really sorted it out, and I so very much appreciate positive mentorship from experienced editors. Happy to learn, happy to share learning. Username block
While User:The Economist Magazine is certainly an unacceptable username, I think it was a bit WP:BITEy of you to block the user, who is editing constructively, less than an hour after I had given them a uw-username notice explaining the problem and inviting them to request CHU or set up a new account. It is true that they made a couple more edits after that, but one might well want to take a little time about thinking up a new username. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 16:09, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Fetch TV
Hello, Cindamuse. User:Shayle1 has again reinserted promotional material into the page Fetch TV. Instead of reverting, I thought I'd let you know. Thanks. -- Wikipedical (talk) 07:15, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
Hi there,
I've been trying to update the Fetch TV wiki page and everytime I update it you seem to delete it, claiming that the information is used to promote or advertise. Can you please advise the specific information you're referring too?
I've researched it in extensive detail, have found relevant third party sites that have been referenced throughout the article so I don't understand why you still believe it's promotional.
The information that was originally included on the page was inaccurate, yet this seemed to remain on the page. I've provided factual updates and it is getting deleted.
If you could advise, that would be great.

- Shayle1 and Wikipedical, I will help out with this as I am willing to step in as a neutral third-party contributor. In terms of the material Shayle, it reads like a blatant advertisement for the company, which should never be included on Wikipedia. Instead, what is on the page right now is very good for the article, as it reads in a neutral tone. That being said, we welcome contributions to the site, so if you want to add information, you should have a third-party source (i.e. someone not connected to Fetch) look at it to check for neutrality. If possible, lets move the discussion to my page, as I would be more than willing to help in the future. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 00:15, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

DYK for Eleanor Owen
On 25 April 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Eleanor Owen, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that mental health advocate Eleanor Owen is known in the Washington State Legislature as "The Barracuda"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Eleanor Owen. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |
