1 (me) = Edit only Myanmar-TV-related articles. I wasn't on Wikipedia since March 2010.

Indian cities

Boing, Hindi transliterations are not at all standard for Indian cities. See Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Bengaluru, Baroda, all very prominent Indian cities but none has a Hindi transliteration in their intro. Thanks. 70.112.74.183 (talk) 03:28, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Nattokinase

Hello- I am attempting to update the entry for nattokinase as the current entry is not entirely true or complete. According to the curent entry, Nattokinase is used as an aspirin substitute. I will tell you that it is not. Aspirin and Nattokinase act on two completely different mechanisms are could hardly be interchangeable. Nattokinase also, while not an OTC drug but a dietary supplement does in fact have research confirming cardiovascular and cerebrovascular benefit in humans contrary to the current entry. This is misleading the readers of Wikipedia. I represent Nattokinase's discoverer, Dr. Sumi and the chief U.S. nattokinase researcher. I am a health care professional myself very familiar with the enzyme nattokinase.

I would appreciate direction on submitting nattokinase information. The last update I provided had zero commercial value and is fully referenced to peer reviewed Journals, including the Lancet. If Wikipedia entries are to be written by experts for trust & value, then I see no reason why the nattokinase overview provided would be rejected for the current entry which is somewhat inaccurate and studies used inconclusive.

Thank you- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dryerson (talkcontribs) 22:12, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

I'm happy to help, but I'm not going to do your work for you. I suggest you read WP:RS and get to understand what Wikipedia considers to be a reliable source. I read WP:RS many times, don't let me read again.
OK, so how about phase 2 now - actually pay some attention to it and act upon it?
I have found five long time ago. 2 from the same website and one more from different website and 2 more from Thai Wikipedia. But only three reliable sources and NOT a blog. But the first 2 is unavailable now. Another one, I can't remember where.
I really don't care what you have found in the past but have now lost.
How much references do I need for a reliable article?
Try starting with some - so far you have provided none.
OK - You don't need to search for it. I will search it myself with more than just Google. I will use some more search engines.
I see that 12 years old boy told you that registering will make him get blocked for being sock puppet - And I don't want to get him blocked or get myself blocked. Being anonymous is better.--180.180.108.170 (talk) 19:54, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
And as I said to him, registering a username will not get you blocked for being a sockpuppet - it is perfectly acceptable to stop editing from IP addresses and start editing from a username. Further, registering a username will get you far more goodwill from other editors - there really is a limit to how long I can be bothered trying to distinguish between "The American kid", "The 12 year old", "The guy with the Cambodian satellite", etc, and trying to work out whether you all actually exist or are part of a single-user hoax, and I will fairly soon tire of trying to talk to you at all. -- Boing! said Zebedee 20:10, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Electrical vs Electronic Engineering in the Computer Engineering Field

In one of your edits on the Computer Engineering page, you insist on writing that CE is a mix of Electronic Engineering and CS, and that Electrical Engineering is a different thing. Well, it may be true to some extent in Europe, but it definitely isn't true in North America. In US and Canada, electronics is the main part of Electrical Engineering and the term Electronic Engineering simply doesn't exist.

As a side note, I am a graduate of electrical engineering from Sherbrooke University (in Quebec, Canada) and I can tell you that among the 120 credits I gathered for my degree, only 3 were done in the field of power (energy transmission, motors, etc). All the rest concerned the information aspect of electrical engineering (electronics, signal processing, telecommunication, microprocessors, etc).

That's why in Canada and USA, degrees like the B.Eng. in Electrical and Computer Engineering are so common. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.203.214.148 (talk) 06:33, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Well, I wasn't so much "insisting" on anything (and I didn't actually write anything in the article myself), I just reverted a change that wasn't really explained properly (in either the edit summary or the Talk page). As Wikipedia is a worldwide thing and not USA/Canada-centric (and not UK/Europe-centric either, of course), then changing it from one to the other is equally inaccurate. I'd suggest that both terms are included, specifying the geographical differences, rather than just changing it to be American/Canadian. Best regards -- Boing! said Zebedee 08:41, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism on Gavin Menzies pages

Dear User,

Thank you for your good faith edits but as you must know the links on Gavin Menzies pages were deleted by some vandals without due justification. As such the links to those original pages should be restored

Thank You! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.68.249.69 (talk) 22:21, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

If you disagree with the changes, discuss them on the Talk page - but do not edit war, and do not leave the article in a state in which it has links that link back to itself -- Boing! said Zebedee 22:24, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

No, due to the fact these deletions and changes were unjustifiably made without logical reason, the article and links should be restored and returned to it's original form temporarily, and then discussions can continue on whether or not to delete or change —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.68.249.69 (talk) 22:26, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Then resolve that issue FIRST before adding back the links, because if you add back the links first they are circular! -- Boing! said Zebedee 22:29, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

And another thing, we are not vandals and we are NOT edit warring. Check the history and you see it is the other users who continually delete without just cause and post derogatory libelious statement on Gavin Menzies page, which technically is a Biography. And as such it must conform to Wikipedia's official policy on Biographies, that they must not be libelious against the person.

You should check out the vandalism and bigoted edit warring committed by ClovisPt and the vandalism and hostiles messages sent to me by John Smith's

Those pages that were deleted were unjustifiably deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.68.249.69 (talk) 22:36, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Repeatedly reverting each other's edits IS edit-warring! I am not taking sides here - all I am asking you to do is stop leaving the article in a nonsensical state in which it has links that link back to itself - sort out your disputes FIRST, and then only put those links back when they link to separate articles! If you succeed in getting the original articles reinstated, then put the links back AFTERWARDS! -- Boing! said Zebedee 22:41, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
As I explained before (but for some reason you decided to remove my messages from your talk page), no articles have been deleted - they have been redirected. And you've threatened to have me blocked (for some reason), as well as stating that even if you were blocked (presumably for breaking the rules) you'd just create more accounts - so please don't set yourself out as some sort of victim here. That said if you would use the talk pages it would be more constructive. John Smith's (talk) 22:44, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
When I said to use the talk page, I was hoping you'd be constructive. Instead you've jumped on a soapbox with your header "The Links to the 1421 and 1434 articles have been deleted by vandals who are trying to suppress this information from public". John Smith's (talk) 22:46, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Do you think the two of you (and anyone else involved) could take this over there, rather than arguing here on my Talk page please? I take no side in the dispute - I just request that the article is not left in a half-state with links that link back to itself -- Boing! said Zebedee 22:58, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

the plot or summary of Two Men and a Wardrobe roman polanski film is wrong it has nothing to do with this given in this wiki

On a sunny day, two men with a three-door wardrobe come out of a sea. The wardrobe seems to chain the two men together as they struggle with this piece of furniture through the beach and then throughout a city. There is no acceptance of them in the world--the by passers are either scared of them or hostile towards them. Finally, they arrive back at a beach and then disappear in the sea.

It deals with perceptions of the same thing by different people, how they react, and why

It is considered an allegory which illustrates how a relationship between two friends causes them trouble in everyday life. The two men always carry a wardrobe, but when other people see them carrying it, they run away or try to get rid of the two men, as if they were afraid of the wardrobe. Or is it something else?

please remove this nonsense.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.169.136.64 (talk) 21:19, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm not qualified to judge, but it seems to reasonably match what it says at IMDB, here. Now that might be wrong, but if you think it is, it's best if you discuss it on the Talk page first and present some sources to show a more accurate plot summary -- Boing! said Zebedee 21:27, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
I've edited it now to be a simple factual summary based on what I can find at a couple of review sites, and have left it with no analysis -- Boing! said Zebedee 21:40, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Talk:The Number 23

Welcome to Wikipedia! I am glad to see you are interested in discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages such as Talk:The Number 23 are for discussion related to improving the article, not general discussion about the topic. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. Thank you. 71.77.20.119 (talk) 00:38, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Well, thanks for the egg-sucking lesson, but I'm not interested in discussing any topics and I'm not asking any questions - I just reverted your removal of some very old Talk page content, as I don't think you should be refactoring other people's old comments. It's years old now, and if you're worried about it cluttering up the page then it should probably be archived rather than just removed - but I'm not really bothered enough to argue about it. -- Boing! said Zebedee 01:35, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Well, firstly, I'm not a "mod" (and I'm not a rocker either). Secondly, there are no hard and fast rules as to the best place to hold such discussions, but consensus does seem to suggest that for article-related discussions the article's Talk page is generally preferred, as most people who might be interested won't know to look at other user pages - so I suggested it only for simplicity and ease of visibility. And thirdly, you really could do with reading WP:AGF and WP:CIVIL. Best regards -- Boing! said Zebedee 13:14, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Gjakova

Why did you revert Gjakova? That's not appreciated. 97% of the population calls it Gjakova. I can tell you that article is a joke by the persistence of some troll editors to push the Serbian POV. Please provide a good reasoning next time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arianit (talkcontribs) 15:32, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi. In September/October 2009 there was a request to change the name, at Talk:Đakovica#Requested_move, but there was no consensus to change it, which means you can't change the name. If you think there would be a consensus to change it now, please do feel free to raise a new request on the Talk page. (But if you do, I'd suggest you leave off accusing people who disagree with you of being "troll editors to push the Serbian POV", and try to assume good faith) -- Boing! said Zebedee 15:47, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and there was a previous request to rename it in August 2009, at Talk:Đakovica#Requested_move.2C_August_2009, which also did not achieve a consensus -- Boing! said Zebedee 15:54, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Of course there won't be a consensus with the trolls pushing Serb POV around. But ask yourself, is it logical? Do you want to be the one enforcing such ridiculous policy of some Serb editors forcing to use Serbian names for a 97% Albanian town? Wikipedia policy has turned into a kafkesque maze without any bases on reality on the ground. I ask you to reflect rather than blindly cite policy and "consensus". Arianit (talk) 18:10, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Hi. My idea of logical isn't really relevant here, because I have no more power to override consensus than anyone else. I also do think that there will be occasions where consensus gets it wrong - who knows, had I known of it at the time, I might have supported that past request to change the name myself. But I really don't see any alternative to consensus - if you or I could personally change something against consensus, then why not everyone else? And then what would there be to prevent non-stop edit wars everywhere? I think the consensus approach is what has made Wikipedia plausible at all, even if it is imperfect, and for it to continue to work I think we have to accept it even when it goes against us -- Boing! said Zebedee 18:24, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Good job reverting that vandal. I saw your AIV report but only after I'd blocked him myself. I just wanted to say it's probably not a good idea to quote edit summaries like that. I've gone and deleted them from the article's history now and I'd delete them from AIV but it's probably not worth it now the report's been cleared. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:55, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I'm not disagreeing. I just pointed out that the template can handle it, and you don't need to remove it and do it manually - just use "mf=yes" -- Boing! said Zebedee 10:52, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Actually, the date format should not be changed - WP:DATEVAR is specific about this regarding Canadian subjects. And not all the Canadian bio pages follow American DOB order e.g. Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, Wilfrid Laurier, etc. Dl2000 (talk) 00:35, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Recent reversions

I understand your opinion. At least 3 editors have previously discussed with the user the nature of appropriate sources. There may not be consensus, but 3 editors to 1 seems appropriate to revert. Thank you for your time. 66.177.182.247 (talk) 11:53, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

If it is controversial, you must not make your change without consensus, and you must not edit-war (see WP:3RR) -- Boing! said Zebedee 11:58, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
If the user adds the material without consensus and ignoring guidelines on proper sourcing, it seems reasonable to remove the content. 66.177.182.247 (talk) 12:05, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Not if there are other editors who disagree with you, no. A valid response would be to mark it "{{citation needed}}" and then hold a discussion on the Talk page to gain consensus. As there appears to be a number of editors disagreeing with your removal (Walter Görlitz, Tubby23, and me), you must not just enter into an edit war with them - the WP:3RR rule is quite firm on that, and people who do more than 3 reversion in 24 hours are very likely to be blocked -- Boing! said Zebedee 12:11, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I should add that I have filed a WP:3RR report, at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring. I see no point continuing this discussion if you are adamant you will not comply with Wikipedia's rules regarding consensus and that you will not adhere to WP:3RR, so we'll have to leave it to an admin to decide -- Boing! said Zebedee 12:14, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Sounds fine to me. I have actually tried to comply with consensus and education of policy, and it looks like Tubby23 and you had actually reverted the edits without knowing the full history, so I stand by the reversions. Take care!! 66.177.182.247 (talk) 12:30, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Firstly, you should not act on your personal assumptions of what I or others have or have not read. Secondly, whatever your opinion or your personal judgment of my and others' edits, you still don't get a right to override consensus - if you disagree with us (even if we turn out to be wrong), you must discuss it and not edit-war! -- Boing! said Zebedee 14:04, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
I got this one wrong - I've offered an apology at User_talk:66.177.182.247#Apology -- Boing! said Zebedee 17:27, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Your apology was gracious and honorable, but unnecessary. I knew I was violating 3RR but did not know how else to proceed. Generally I don't like to break a rule even if it is to correct the breaking of a more important rule, and CIreland and others have given me a great education on a better way.
I also apologize to you for my earlier assumptions. I should not have assumed that you were not familiar with the earlier talk page discussions and my recent IP change and the corresponding small history of edits may have contributed. You were right to correct me.
Finally, I greatly appreciate your offer to watch for further attempts to add the contentious material. Similar material was added to Chuck_Smith_(pastor) and I have reverted that, as well.
Take care!! 66.177.182.247 (talk) 19:43, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Boing, and can YOU guess How long I will live in Thailand? (Hint:I come here last month, I live in Thailand one month already, but can you guess how long after this will I live?)--125.25.236.43 (talk) 17:23, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
I really don't care - if you want social chat, please try somewhere like Facebook and see if there's anyone there who's interested. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 17:28, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

CSD for "pure shit"?

I'm serious here, for articles like the one you just commented on, can't we have a "pure shit" CSD category. I mean, if something fails WP:NOT on multiple accounts, can't we just get rid of the damn article right away? Maybe I should have used {{delete}} with WP:IAR as the reason, but come on, that article is nonsense. I really wish all the WT:CSD discussions had led to a valid CSD for these. Something can be done, can't it? (I am watching this page, so please reply here.)Timneu22 · talk 13:46, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Sorry for the slow answer - I've been pretty busy with other stuff. I certainly echo your feelings, and I've come across quite a few articles and thought that WP:BOLLOCKS should be a CSD criterion. But the trouble is, it seems like a hard one to tie down objectively - "shit" and "bollocks" are surprisingly subjective, and I fear we could get a lot of poor nominations by people who effectively just strongly disagree with an article's contents. I've also seen a lot of AfD discussions very much split on WP:NOT judgments too, and while this particular one was an uncontroversial delete, I could see people using such a CSD for others that are more controversial. Still, if anyone thinks they can come up with a workable way of wording such a CSD, I'd be very interested to consider it. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:24, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

"noxious bigot"

Okay, I did not see where Herostratus actually used that term, but you seem to be much better at digging this stuff up than I am so I'm not surprised. Didn't want to clutter up the page just for my own edification, either. Do you know where I can find it in context?--~TPW 23:07, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

good question, TPW, I'm sure Zebedee will be able to help you out as he seems to be very knowledgeable. I personally think he should be granted moderator status

cheers,

Chris Bodybuilding4Life (talk) 06:29, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

. . . and perhaps he will request adminship at some point!--~TPW 07:46, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
The only source of that term (apart from other people quoting it) was in this link (the one I quoted in the RfA), but that isn't the whole AfD and so it's not in its full context. I did see a quote of the AfD nomination itself somewhere, but I can't find it now - it's probably redacted. But for me, a momentary lapse of judgment was easily forgivable, and all I wanted was some acknowledgment that it was a BLP violation - and the answer to Q7 satisfied that, so I changed my !vote to Support. Cheers - Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:51, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
PS: And thanks for the kind words folks - but adminship is not in my immediate future. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:54, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Arbitrary heading

a quick query: how would i be best to go about recommending you for moderator status?

cheers

It's very kind of you to suggest it, but I would decline an admin nomination as it is not something I wish to do at the moment. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 06:06, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

quite a bit lost 122.57.177.86 (talk) 05:30, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

how come Zebedee? you are a good editor and would make a good admin person. Is your personal life giving you too much stress to take on the job? if so, i am sorry to hear.

cheers

Chris Bodybuilding4Life (talk) 02:18, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

The reason I don't want to be an admin at the moment is really just because I can do everything I want without it. In fact, I think sometimes you can diffuse arguments better by not being an admin - people tend to see admins as figures of authority, and I find it can be quite effective in discussion to be able to say things like "No, I'm just an ordinary editor, just like you". Cheers -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:02, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

that is a good point you have made. can I ask you, what drives you to maintain a high standard of contributions on wikipedia? what motivates you to share your knowledge and correct misinformation if you see it?

you seem to know a lot about music, do you specialise in it?

all the best, cheers,

Hi. I've really said all I want to say about myself, and I'd prefer to keep discussions here to specific, practical, Wikipedia issues - hope you'll understand. Regards -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 19:43, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Illinois State Lottery

You state as non-notable the fact of the Lottery draw of 666 on Nov. 5, 2008. The Bible does not see this number as - non-notable. Please revise your judgement and I'll refer this to higher moderation if further deletions occur. This is a referenced FACT. Further deletions will not be accepted in any way or form. Or else go to arbitration. I am just stating the fact. This is not vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.139.25.54 (talk) 07:20, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I'm afraid you'll have to take expressions of your religious beliefs elsewhere - the number 666 comes up all over the world regularly, and there is no sourced link with President Obama. Your implication that there is a connection is non-notable at best, and defamatory at worst. If you think my reversions of your additions (and those by other editors) are inappropriate, you are welcome to seek the assistance of an admin (though I really don't think ArbCom will be interested just yet). I'm back

You can remember I edited Myanmar-related articles by chaning to "Midnight", I quited in late April, now I'm back but I won't do that again. I will try to discuss--180.180.98.238 (talk) 14:04, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

If you just stick to Wikipedia's policies, make sure you have reliable sources for anything you want to add (and remember that just watching TV and chatting with kids on websites is not a reliable source), and don't add anything that you cannot reliably source, you shouldn't have any problems. (Oh, and please don't leave lengthy "hidden" comments on my Talk page, especially like that whole pile of incomprehensible stuff I just deleted - just say what you have to say here in the open).
