Image on Squamata

edit

You recently removed an image of a brown snake creeping up on an anole in the taxobox on Squamata with the edit summary that the previous image was of too low a resolution. I am not aware of any reason that a taxobox needs a particularly high resolution image, although, just on principle, and for a printed version, high resolution is better than low resolution. However, I think that the image previously in the taxobox was very impressive for having squamates in to two different groups interacting, and I think that a picture of a single species is of less encyclopedic value as an illustration for the squamates as a whole. Lens length

edit

Copied from WP:ERRORS:

The description of the camera given lists the incorrect focal length of the lens used. The lens is "35-420 mm" equivalent on a 35mm camera. The a quick google revealed that the actual focal length is 7.4-88.8mm. I'd suggest that "Lens: Built in 35-420mm" is replaced with "Lens: Built in 7.4-88.8mm (35-420mm 35mm equivalent)". Gum tree leaf

edit

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for your message. Principally, the upper and lower sides of a leaf are distinguishable in embryogenesis. If, in any given species, they are the same, this is typically a secondary adaptation, that is, one that tries to compensate for the earlier (possibly latent) differentiation. Unfortunately, Blechnic did not provide a source for his opinion that the upper side is used for identification in this species, so we may not be able to clarify this question entirely during this nomination. He does have a point though in pointing out that your claim that the photo would be sufficient for identification (at least as far as it is possible to ID based on just a leaf at all), is similarly unreferenced. Best wishes, Papa Lima Whiskey (talk) 11:24, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is just how plant ids work, if it is describing the underside of the leaf it says so, somewhere. However, this can be referenced, and I'll provide a reference when I find a moment. --Blechnic (talk) 21:35, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Leaf

edit

I didn't say it was the leaf of an immature tree, or if I did I misspoke. Leaves don't materialize full grown, they start as buds, then grow. According to the herbarium specimens I viewed a mature leaf on this tree should be at about at least another 50% longer than this one. I actually know what a eucalyptus tree is, and this is the underside of the leaf, and you haven't disagreed with that, so I'm not sure why you're arguing against the botanical description. --Blechnic (talk) 21:34, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I said "adult leaf" not adult tree. --Blechnic (talk) 21:46, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

edit

See WP:IG and Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Birds/archive_29#Gallery_Cleanup_usage "Images are typically interspersed individually throughout an article near the relevant text (see WP:MOSIMAGES). However, the use of galleries may be appropriate in Wikipedia articles where a collection of images can illustrate aspects of a subject that cannot be easily or adequately described by text or individual images." Snowman (talk) 14:57, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • I'm not sure what you're refering to here, I did clean up a gallery yesterday but I believe everything I removed was unequivacally removalble. You may be refering to the gallery of Rainbow Lorikeet sub-species that J Milburn removed...? If so, I mildly agree with it's restoration but on the whole I leave article structure to others and merely add my photos. Benjamint 23:52, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Lorikeets

edit

What would be useful is a good photograph of an Ornate Lorikeet. I think that they have some at Jurong Bird Park. It may look like a Rainbow Lorikeet from a distance, but it has a red chin and yellow on both sides of its head. Snowman (talk) 16:10, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I tried to get a good shot for every species they had in the "lory loft" but the heat/humidity was really getting to me and I probably got less than half. I Probably won't visit Singapore again for ~9 months but definitely pass it my way if you have any more species found in singapore that you want an FP quality shot for. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:49, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
