Hi Blacksun, good work so far on the Hinduism article. I'm glad you took to working on the article — I myself would have liked to continue to contribute, but work has caught up with me. With regards to the reasoning behind one of your recent edits "Support: Their was no such section in original FA", keep in mind that FA candidacy is considerably harder now than it used to be when Hinduism got featured in 2004. Negative aspects and alternate viewpoints on any subject are required and those reviewing FACs come down pretty hard on such articles. While I feel that the current lenght of the Hindu nationalism is appropriate, this may be something to keep in mind as you continue to make edits to the article. Cheers, and one again, good job! AreJay 22:32, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I was actually going to message you but I saw that you are busy and did not. Yep, I realize that it is lot tougher and opposite views should be given. However, I did not think their was any need to talk about BJP etc. More details can be found by clicking on Ayodhya. I am definitely not the kind to do POV. Just trying to balance things out. I really hope that you and some of the others can eventually pitch in with the references. I do not have access to good books and such just some articles. (Blacksun 22:54, 21 March 2006 (UTC))

India portal

I see the consensus is that we nominate it to WP:FPCAN. I think you should nominate it. Per Shreshth91's suggestion, peer review needs to be archived first. All the best! - Ganeshk (talk) 16:47, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

I agree. I see the whole selected article review process as redundant fork of the WP:FAC. I had already wanted the template removed from the talk pages since it says the article was reviewed but it was not. As you say, we can keep cycling through the India related featured articles until new ones get added. - Ganeshk (talk) 23:50, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
I have added some comments on the page. If you have some suggestions to make it better then please let me know. I have also left a notice there to rewise the selecting process for all the articles. I was actually frustated earlier because people were not making any comments. But I am also responsible because it was not publicized properly. But I think, it will get good response now. Thanks, Shyam (T/C) 13:53, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
I tested it on my sandbox and found that moving pages does not move the sub pages. - Ganeshk (talk) 21:59, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for removing excess space which was messed with red links from archive. It does seem good now. You have done some changes to Template:Indian selected which are appericiable. But I am thinking if we provide a link for Portal:India/Selected article candidates and make some corrections to statement like, "it is one of the best articles on Wikipedia related to India. If you have an article of similar quality related to India, then nominate it." I think, it will look better, what do you say? Shyam (T/C) 23:43, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Please comment on this message I had left at Shyam's page. - Ganeshk (talk) 01:04, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
All the subpages associated with these two portals are now for deletion but still there are many pages which should go for deletion. I am doing process for deletion very slowly because after deletion copying of the text in the article would not be possible. It is very well known to you that I have created all these pages thrice...Huh. Now I am feeling like some relaxation as Portal:India has no objection for to be a featured portal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Urshyam (talkcontribs)
Good deal, Shyam. AreJay 15:10, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
I will appericiate your comments on selected article. We need an active participation for there also. Thank you, Shyam (T/C) 13:36, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Hello, can you add an appropriate tag to Image:Dubai skyline.jpg? If not, please remove it from Dubai because it is currently a Good Article nominee and this can prevent it from being promoted. Thanks. - Eagletalk 10:16, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

INCOTW

Yeah, glad to see the support votes on the portal nom. Made Jaisalmer this week's INCOTW. You didn't mess up last time. You did pretty well for the first time. - Ganeshk (talk) 04:45, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi!

Hi! Could you please see Kolkata (INCOTW last week ) and satyajit Ray (India selected article nominee) and comment on further improvement of these 2 articles? Thanks.--Dwaipayanc 09:33, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi! A request has been made for peer review of Kolkata. Could you please help improving the article? Thanks a lot.--Dwaipayanc 11:24, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
Wow! Thanks a lot for the review, and particularly for the Google search on the civic administration of Kolkata. That's going to be immensely helpful.--Dwaipayanc 20:21, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Genesis

Hey there, I'll be glad to take a look at the Genesis article and offer some suggestions. However, I'm gonna be busy for much of this week, so I might not get a good look at it until later this week or this weekend. As for critical reviews, Rolling Stone Online has all their music reviews since the magazine was published on their website. That helped me for some of the earlier reviews, both good and bad. I also used All Music Guide, which some contributors to WP pan for some reason, although I've never understood why (There are published books, a decent website, etc.). I also found a somewhat critical review on the Entertainment Weekly website. Of them, I'd recommend Rolling Stone's as a favorite, since just about every album is on there somewhere.

Best of luck with getting that article together. I'll help whenever I can. --Ataricodfish 02:12, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey there, I've begun a copy edit of the Genesis article, although I'm only about halfway done. I've also added some suggestions on the peer review. You will notice that I've "tidied" the article a bit, deleting redundant and unneccessary words to make the article more consise, and attempting to eliminate passive voice. Let me know if you like the direction I'm using. Also, I moved Genesis Discography to Genesis discography, as "discography" should be lowercased (My mistake, as I had it the other way in the peer review). I corrected any link which originally went to the other page. I also added links to Phil Collins discography and Peter Gabriel discography in the "See also" section of the Genesis discography. --Ataricodfish 19:54, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
Hey there -- I think nominating it for FAC might be a crapshoot in terms for success, meaning it can go either way. The information is definitely there and it's certainly impressive, but I'm still concerned with some of the writing. I've tidied it as best as I could, but there's still a considerable amount of passive voice in the article (such as "is/was", "had/had", etc.) which I don't know if I corrected. Two other things I noticed missing today -- no explanation as to what happened to Ray Wilson in his section (ie, was he fired from the band, etc.), and the influences on Genesis section gives a sizable section to Tony Banks but little to nothing on the other members.
That having been said, I think it would have a strong chance in the FAC process, and I don't foresee any major problems which can't be fixed. The article is a comprehensive overview of Genesis, and worst case scenario is mild objections, and best case is success as a FA! It certainly has the qualifications.
As for voting, I don't know if I should, considering recent objections in the Pokemon (i.e. Bulbasaur) and We Belong Together nominations obtaining a bunch of support votes by friends of the author and contributors to the article. If anything, I think my vote might actually hurt you since I helped with the copy edit and wrote the Collins article. I would be happy to leave a comment, however, stating that the article appears to hold a good deal of information and an excellent overview of the group.
Either way, be sure to let me know so I can watch over the article's progress. I think it has a good chance, considering the peer review has been quite favorable and helpful. Best of luck! --Ataricodfish 01:50, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
Ah, ok. Well, I think the article is just about ready then. Again, you might have some mild objections here and there, but nothing that is major or that couldn't be fixed. As the reviews on the peer review have been positive, and you've worked on the majority of suggestions, this has a good chance at success. Best of luck with the FAC process, and as always, I'll be happy to review the article again should any changes need to be made. --Ataricodfish 18:41, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
Hey there -- good work on the FAC so far. Looks like a bunch of comments and a support as of this writing. It was similar for the FAC for Phil Collins, which only had about four supports but no unresolved objections and a TON of comments. Hopefully, the process continues smoothly. Hope all's well. --Ataricodfish 16:43, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Hey there -- congrats on the successful FAC! You definitely put a lot of work into the article, so I'm glad it succeeded with little problem. Also, thank you for the award. That's the first one I've ever received on Wiki! I'm glad to have helped out, and I'm equally glad you didn't mind that I was sometimes picky with my suggestions. Best of luck with your future projects! --Ataricodfish 03:16, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Kolkata peer review

Hi ! Could you please see Kolkata peer review second time? Almost all of the recommendations have been followed. Some simply could not be done. For example, a nice map of the city. I could not find out one !! Please see and comment. Thanks. --Dwaipayanc 20:12, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi! All the points in your second review have been addressed. Your suggestion of copyediting a few sections at a time is excellent. Still the "History" section is not sounding very good! Thanks. And please have a look again. Bye!--Dwaipayanc 06:06, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Hey that was a pretty good article you gave me on Kolkata. Sorry, I was away and so did not respond till now. --Blacksun 09:11, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Genesis

Thanks for the props. :) I'm pretty busy over the weekend but I'll give it a good going over on Monday, and evaluate it according to the Featured Music Project criteria as well if someone doesn't beat me to it. - dharmabum 21:18, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

It looks much better now, especially the discography (although I'm still not sure that live and compilation albums need to be in the main article, the formatting and double-column style really tightens it up anyway). I noticed that, as you said, there's still some copyediting to be done, but once it's finished you'll have my vote in an FAC. I'm rather busy outside of Wikipedia these days so haven't had time, but you might want to drop Tuf-Kat a line asking if he or another project member could evaluate the article based on FMP guidelines, which helps a bit more in assuring a successful FAC. - dharmabum 06:51, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

India portal

Hey AreJay. Congratulations for getting FP status to the India portal. Of course, you've worked a lot to make it happen. I was just wondering whether you could, with all your experience with portals, help in improving Portal:Buddhism and Portal:Hinduism so that they can also reach that status. I'll be happy to collaborate with you on this. Regards, deeptrivia (talk) 04:50, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi AreJay,

the compressed section on south Indian culture and heritage by Dwaipayanc which I removed have been restored by me. I have written my comment on the talk page. I have moved the images you added to the separate main page created by Dwaipanayc on South Indian culture

Its good to meet/write after a long time. I should say the ethos of wikipedia has changed a lot since we last wrote on a talk page to each other. good memories and lots of apprehensions for the future. Thanks Robin klein 23:44, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

THANK YOU

Thanks a lot for the map...I am so novice at photo editors I do not have any idea how could you do such a wonderful work! Since you ask for any modification, I have the courage to ask you. Can you change the color of the inset map of the city (a la Bangalore). However, it is not that much important. Another thing I think can the river be shown? I know it will be very demanding job! If you someday get some time, it will be helpful. (I hope I am not sounding greedy and worthless one who just wants from people!)....THANKS A LOT.--Dwaipayanc 07:50, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

I do not know how to express my gratitude. You have done a WONDERFUL work. Do you happen to create such maps often? Nichalp is also doing some new SVG map of India.--Dwaipayanc 04:56, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
I am really feeling ashamed for again calling you for help. There is a minor task foe you. In the inset map of Kolkata, the "star" for locating the city proper falls on the west bank (left side) of the river. Actually it should be on the east bank (right side). The Koklkata Municipal corporation area is on the right side. Please see if you can modify ( hope this won't be a major task for you). Thanks a lot. Bye.--Dwaipayanc 06:30, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Re:Jinnah

Hi AreJay - thanks for your compliments. Regarding Jinnah's nationality - "South Asian" is not a nationality or citizenship, and includes (Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan) so it can't be right. I personally feel that describing Jinnah as an Indian while crediting him as founder of Pakistan in the same sentence cannot be wrong or hurtful really. Thanks for taking the time to discuss this issue, becoz I know it could become a problem, and I'm grateful for your advice on the matter. Rama's Arrow 16:27, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Pronunciation Done

Hi,

I have added the pronunciation of Bangalore and Bengaluru. I hope my Kannada readig skills are good enough to decipher how it was pronounced but couldn't get the native accent so it looks a bit weird. Hopefully the pronunciation is fine. Do check and tell if any modifications are to be made. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 03:15, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Aah. How can I forget that Kannada doesn't have a small 'u' but only a big 'u' and a bigger 'u'. Never mind. I uploaded another version that should be fine, although somehow it was very difficult to maintain the intonation. Everytime either the first syllable became quite and the second loud or the 'u' sould would hear like a small 'u'. See if its Ok now. If its not, I will ask one Kannada friend of mine to do it. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 13:02, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately the map is taking longer than I expected. The problem with SVG types is the incredible detail that needs to be drawn just to get the shading correct. I've uploaded a test image: Image:India-SVG-test-map.svg for everyone's reference. Just the raw borders is 154 kb! I could have hurried on the map, but I'd also dabbled on reviewing Bangladesh and Kolkata and that's why the delay. I'll try and work on it this weekend. Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, AreJay, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of JoanneB, FireFox and Titoxd. The next set of elections will be in April, we will keep you updated about the results. Because you are a new member, you are not able to vote in these elections, but you will be more than welcome to take part in the elections in June.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC Tutorial written by one of our members. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Portal:India selected articles

Regarding India Selected Article, there are many articles in the list that are not related to India, rather universal. Also, there are some articles that, though related to India, do not meet the critera for India SA. I have nominated 2 such articles as SA removal candidates. IMO, their selection as SA in the first place seems to be biased in the sense that the topic, rather than the SA criteria, were given more importance. Please see and comment. This SA list needs urgent attention. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:09, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi! The template for Portal:India/Selected article removal candidates was not made, and I tried to make it. However, the result Template:Pisarc is not ok. It is not functioning perfectly as can be seen in the talk pages where this has been put, for example, Talk:Raja Ravi Varma and Talk:Cheese. See that the template shows the name of the article once again at the end! I have already contacted Nichalp (talk · contribs) in this regard. You can also help to resolve this technical matter.
Many articles in Portal:India/Selected articles deserve to be delisted as they are either not india related or do not meet the criteria. I cannot but say that it seems from the list as if many articles were chosen by the whims of the editor Shyam Bihari (talk · contribs) rather than going through the prescribed procedure. Please see. Today's Selected Article on The India Portal

Hi, these articles need to be speedily removed from SA: Coca-Cola, Cheese, Black pepper, Butter, Windows XP, Mozilla Firefox, Java programming language, GNU/Linux naming controversy, C programming language, Diamond, Frog, DNA repair, Dinosaur, Cat, Blue Whale, Asthma, Aquarium, AIDS, Graffiti As they have little to no relation to India. No point going through SARC with all of them. Nobleeagle (Talk) 00:36, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi there... you might reconsider Black pepper, which actually does have quite a bit to do with India. I'm not sure what criteria you use, though. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 03:18, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 03:46, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

your claim of convention

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Haveri_district&diff=51075665&oldid=49584865

it is not a common convention. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tobias Conradi (talkcontribs)

why? Tobias Conradi (Talk) 22:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

why do you try to impose a disputed convention? http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:WikiProject_Indian_districts&diff=52910260&oldid=50248933 Tobias Conradi (Talk) 22:33, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

why? Tobias Conradi (Talk) 22:42, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

so you will not follow the disputed convention anymore? and stop moving articles? Me too I do not like this moving, but Nichalp just started this and the whole lower case camp is not very open to discussion. Some claim stuff and when asked for evidence they keep silent. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 22:56, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

thanks for your answer. IMO the districts of India should all use the same template. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 23:22, 12 May 2006 (UTC) ...but it seems we need some if-else expert help. e.g. to use tehsil / taluk as apropriate. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 23:29, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello AreJay, I am away from wikipedia. I am unable to access internet frequently. Will you please handle articles and pictures. Thank you in anticipation, Shyam (T/C) 09:13, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi AreJay - I'm very sorry to have disappointed your expectation in me, but it had become impossible for me to compromise my principles. I don't covet adminship at all, so it wasn't a difficult decision - I simply cannot accept misrepresentation and nonsense. However, I cannot tell you how greatly joyous I feel at the enthusiastic, wonderful support you expressed for me. I don't know how hard it will be to understand that your supports means extremely a lot to me. I thank you from my heart, and please let me know if I can ever be assistance or help in anything. VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:06, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Hindi names of states and cities

Hello. I noticed you reverted the addition of Hindi to the Bangalore article. Some users have been adding the Hindi names to all the state articles too. Does it merit inclusion, being the national language? I thougt it best to confirm from you before I remove it. Thanks! -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu_Joseph |TALK 04:58, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Okies. I'm removing it from the state articles then. Thanks! -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu_Joseph |TALK 12:47, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Past Band Members

Hi there. Just a quick query in the particuar context of the Genesis edit. If you go back to history immediately before my edit you'll find that the past band members were in no clear order at all. I just thought reverse chrono was the most logical in the context. Is alphabetic more commonly accepted in this circumstance? (PS - you can answer here, save bouncing between pages. I have it on watch.) Cheers. Cain Mosni 15:46, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Cain, the reason I changed the list to alphabetical was because of the problems associated with a chronological list. The rearrangement per your edit wasn't 100% accurate since Steve Hackett got hired in after Collins did (his name should have appeared before Collins'). Also, since Genesis was formed from two other school bands (Anon and Garden Wall), the question of "Who's name appears last in the reverse chrono list" is not easy to answer and may therefore lead to misinterpretation. I was hoping to simplify the list by reverting to the alphabetical format. Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns wrt my edits. Thanks! Hail Purdue!

Although I'm a Purdue alum, former band member, and rabid Boilermaker football fan, I think you've gone too far with this new article. Posting complete song lyrics here on Wikipedia is almost certainly a copyright violation ... -- Engineer Bob 08:15, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
