Your input is requested
Greetings, Amire80/Archive April 2013 - March 2017! If we have not met, I'm AutomaticStrikeout. I've come here to ask you to take part in the survey at User:AutomaticStrikeout/Are admins interested in a RfB?. I am trying to gauge the general level of interest that administrators have in running for cratship, as well as pinpoint the factors that affect that interest level. Your input will be appreciated. Assistance with edit request
Hello, Amir! I'm looking at an edit request on Talk:Israel Hershberg, and I'd like your assistance if possible. I don't understand what they're getting at so I'm declining the request for now, but they did include a few references. Normally I'd give the material a quick look to see if there's anything relevant, but it's all in Hebrew - which I know absolutely nothing about. I got your name off of the local embassy page... could you take a quick look and see if there's anything there that makes sense to you? Thanks! --ElHef (Meep?) 03:36, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi,
- Thanks for the question.
- I passed it on to somebody who is probably more experienced with this than I am. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 15:35, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

an advice or help from user Guglani1?
I had an old account with name Guglani since perhaps 2005, but long back i forgot its password and email associated was closed. subsequently i registered as Guglani1 which is working well. Meanwhile my accouts at other wikis registered as Guglani were also working well.I never used Guglani at en.wiki after i registerd as Guglani1.Meanwhile accounts at other wikis as Guglani have been ticked by me as Global account without ticking at en.wiki.Now some people at wiki have attached my Guglani1 a/c with my old Guglani a/c ,i am happy with it.But can I request , that my global a/c on other wikis as Guglani can also be attached and in so doing I should not loose all the old editorial history on wiki projects for these two accounts although these are at different wikis.Confusion comes on some wikis like en.wikibooks where i get user id as Guglani and Guglani1 both , how to sort out this cofusion.--Guglani1 (talk) 12:45, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

Opting in to VisualEditor
As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 50 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "MediaWiki:Visualeditor-preference-enable
". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:22, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for October 21
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kuvempu, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rashtrakavi (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

IPA fonts
Since the discussion at MediaWiki_talk:Common.css#IPA_font is a bit old, I didn't know if I'd get an answer there. When you say Gentium is supported by WP, did you mean Gentium Plus, or the original font? And can you point me to where it's supported? This is all new to me.
Also asked you what you meant at Help_talk:IPA#IPA_font.
Thanks, — kwami (talk) 20:08, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
- I realized that Gentium as it is is too huge - hundreds of kilobytes. That's not great for a webfont that should be quickly downloadable. I'll probably add SIL's subset for IPA, although I'll have to research that. I'll update you. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 15:41, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest
I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 01:42, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Purification Rundown
Hello. I'm confused about your recent edits to Purification Rundown. You added a few 'not in citation' templates to sources, but a quick check shows that the info is indeed in the sources attached. Was this a mistake? Grayfell (talk) 22:21, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think that it was a mistake. I didn't see a clear indication in the source of the asserted facts.
- This edit marks in this way an article about the death of a man from Oregon, but I couldn't find a man from Oregon mentioned in the linked articles.
- This edit marks in this way a statement that asserts that Kelly Preston "endorsed the program and credits it for helping her late son Jett". In one of the linked articles I couldn't find anything at all about the Purification Rundown, and in another one it is mentioned in passing and not as the article says.
- Of course, it's perfectly possible that I missed something. If you see something that I didn't see, can you please copy the relevant sentence from the article here? --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 22:36, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- My bad. I searched the articles for "Oregon" and "Purification", while I should have searched for "Portland" and "detox". I'm lazy :)
- Thanks for the vigilance. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 22:47, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- Cool, glad we could clear that up. The sourcing on Narconon is such a labyrinth I was afraid it was spilling over to the Purif article. Thanks. Grayfell (talk) 23:24, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- No problem, thanks again. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 10:16, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
- Cool, glad we could clear that up. The sourcing on Narconon is such a labyrinth I was afraid it was spilling over to the Purif article. Thanks. Grayfell (talk) 23:24, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
Could you please do something about this user they personally attacked me on I Knew You Were Trouble http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=I_Knew_You_Were_Trouble&diff=592476993&oldid=592476587 as he stated "Someone needs to read WP:Vandalism, and learn what the hell they're talking about. It's a fullstop, there's no notability to it whatsoever." and I do not appreciate that they did that. So please could you do something? Thanks! 184.58.24.163 (talk) 14:00, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- That is not a personal attack. Not even close. You've also persistently spammed inane and incorrect things on my talkpage (the only thing that has any validity is the "edit war" thing; but it takes two to tango, don't forget, so beware the boomerang). Stop trolling please. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 14:01, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Yes that was a personal attack "Someone needs to read..." that right a personal attack on where you posted it and I did not break the "edit war" rule though I got accused of it and you are the one removing notable information the song is stylized as I Knew You Were Trouble. and is notable so people know it is not an error as it is on multiple releases but you want to play WP:IDONTLIKEIT and post personal attacks on me on a revert that only strengthens what I was posting on your talk page. 184.58.24.163 (talk) 14:06, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- Where you posted that is a personal attack that kind of stuff only goes on the talk pages not the edit summaries. 184.58.24.163 (talk) 14:08, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- How is that a personal attack in any sense of the term? It was an accurate statement; you do need to read WP:Vandalism, because nothing I did was vandalism. I put no emphasis on the someone whatsoever, so that's a deliberate misrepresentation right there. Ironically, false accusations of vandalism are often classified as personal attacks, as are deliberate misrepresentations... You edit-warred on the page with me, but the utterly inappropriate thing is your edit-warring on my talkpage. WP:IDONTLIKEIT is an essay related to deletion discussions, so is irrelevant. I note you have a history of this sort of activity as well - which you've been blocked for as well. And still you don't learn. I get the feeling WP:CIR is a useful read for you as well. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 14:10, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- And persistently editing a user's talkpage, when they've told you in no uncertain terms to go away, is also blockable, by the way. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 14:13, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- You did personally attack me in an edit summary. You do not post that there it is a personal attack. You keep it on a talk page. Do not see how you do not get do not post stuff like that in an edit summary it is a personal attack, you have to post stuff like that on talk page. Also you cannot tell someone they cannot post on your talk page there is no such thing as "persistently editing a user's talkpage, when they've told you in no uncertain terms to go away, is also blockable" especially when that is commpletely wrong, so do not threaten me. There is another one to go against him too personal attack and now a threat of block by lying. 184.58.24.163 (talk) 14:16, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- The thing you keep claiming is a personal attack is not a personal attack. It doesn't matter if I post it in an edit summary, on a userpage, at ANI or a talk page; that's irrelevant. You're making things up in order to try and duck responsibility for your actions. I strongly suggest you read Wikipedia's policies, because it is obvious you have a very minimal grasp for someone who has been around for a while. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 14:20, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Again do not post stuff like that in an edit summary it is a personal attack, you have to post stuff like that on talk page. I am not ducking no responsibility for my actions you are because you were reverting notable and sourced information and then personally attack me saying Someone needs to read while reverting my notable and sourced information. So who is ducking out of responsibility for their actions, oh, it would be you. Sorry. 184.58.24.163 (talk) 14:24, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- Where it was located is irrelevant. I could've written it in the sky, or on a book on your desk; it is not, and never would be, a personal attack. Your information was not notable, and spamming in 8 references (in violation of WP:REFSPAM, I should add) doesn't make it so. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 14:27, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- And now you've violated WP:3RR all by yourself, congratulations! Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 14:34, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Again do not post stuff like that in an edit summary it is a personal attack, you have to post stuff like that on talk page. And uh, do not know how I "violated WP:3RR" as I did not revert over three times. Here you go again making stuff up to try and not take responsibility for your actions. Keep piling on there Lukeno94, you prove more and more that I did nothing wrong and you did. :D congrates on continuing to make my point for me! 184.58.24.163 (talk) 14:38, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- You just reverted for a fourth time, and not marking an edit summary as a revert doesn't mean the edit wasn't a revert. Are you seriously this lacking in WP:COMPETENCE? Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 14:42, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
I did not revert you are assuming so keep piling my case for me. You are doing a great job. 184.58.24.163 (talk) 14:45, 26 January 2014 (UTC) Copy, paste and repost is not a revert. Sorry. 184.58.24.163 (talk) 14:46, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- Revert 1. Revert 2. Revert 3. Revert 4. Care to explain which of those weren't reverts? Doesn't matter by what method you did it, they're reverts. Claiming otherwise shows exactly how poor your grasp of policy is. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 14:47, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
There were only three reverts not four Sorry. Copy paste and repost does not count as a revert you just do not like that I am winning as you are now throwing insults here as well asking if I a competence and I am, you just do not like that I will not bow to your will or play your game. Sorry but just keep piling on yourself as I said on my talk page all I did was "I did not revert anything or delete any summery all I did was copy the information post hit the edit button on the top of the page pasted it and hit Save page. That is not a revert." Also I removed the fourth as there is no fourth. Sorry. 184.58.24.163 (talk) 14:53, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- Whoever this Lukeno is you better deal with him he is picking on a 10 year old girl and I do NOT appreciate him making my daughter cry. 184.58.24.163 (talk) 15:06, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- Why are arguing on my talk page? Can you please stop, unless you can explain what does your argument has to do with me and what can I do to resolve it? --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 15:35, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry about that Amir, the IP has since been blocked for their disruptive behaviour. I'm very sorry it happened here, and please feel free to incinerate this farce if you so desire. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 15:46, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

NAN
Hi Amir, the story you added is, I think, too short for a secondary main. It could be an In brief, if Ed decides it's appropriate. Readers shouldn't have to divert to the Euromaiden article to find out what it means. If you could add "has" before "already? Can a single blog be taken as representative of the Georgian WP community?
Ed will be up in a few hours' time and will want to publish soon after. Could you take it up with him? NAN is usually prepared off-wiki. Thanks. Tony (talk) 12:35, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Add urwiki link
Hi Amire :) would you please add urdu interwiki link to this template? Muhammad Shuaib (talk) 15:05, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Done. I added Hindi as well. Thanks for asking.
- Can you return me a favor, albeit a bigger one? :)
- Can you please translate the ContentTranslation extension to Urdu? I see that you are already experienced with translatewiki, so you shouldn't need a lot of explanations :)
- This extension is not very big, but it's quite important to me, because I'm one of its developers ;)
- Thanks! --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 15:24, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks :) All strings have been translated except "Make text read natural", I cant get it, Would you elaborate it to me? :) Muhammad Shuaib (talk) 15:50, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot!
- I changed the documentation for this message. Basically, it suggests the translator to make the translated text natural and easily understandable in the target language. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 15:55, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks I added the translation, Now I would like to translate that extension which has been used to send emials to users when changes and edits take places in their talk pages and watchlist. Can you give me a link to that extension? :) Muhammad Shuaib (talk) 16:03, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you so much!
- The extension you are talking about is called "Echo".
- Here's the direct link to translating Echo to Urdu. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 16:23, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Nope, this is another extension which has been locally translated. Is it possible to develop a transliteration tool for all languages like content translation tool? You know that google input tools is not better for live and copy-paste transliteration. Muhammad Shuaib (talk) 17:00, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm, I think that you are confusing several things.
- Transliteration is something that is done in the UniversalLanguageSelector extension (ULS). It includes a transliteration tool for Urdu, although I haven't heard a lot of feedback about how it works from Urdu speakers. This is the little keyboard icon that appears near the input boxes.
- ContentTranslation is a tool for translating Wikipedia articles. It's completely new, and it's not deployed anywhere yet. It's similar to translatewiki, but targeted specifically for articles rather than translating software.
- The extension that you are describing - "send emials to users when changes and edits take places in their talk pages and watchlist" - that is definitely Echo. I see that only four messages of this extension are translated locally in ur.wikipedia. All of them should be translated in translatewiki. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 18:16, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- I am talking about such kind of transliteration tool :) Okeh I will translate the echo as soon as possible, Thanks :) Muhammad Shuaib (talk) 13:07, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- Ah, curious. Is there a source code repository for that? --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 13:13, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- I am talking about such kind of transliteration tool :) Okeh I will translate the echo as soon as possible, Thanks :) Muhammad Shuaib (talk) 13:07, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Basically this tool has been developed for urdu wiki, but I am not a professional programmer and have only basic knowledge about it. So I would like that you should work on it and add more enhancement and sophistication, so that entire wikipedia community may use it in any language :) I have added local dictionary to handle some words that need to be translated not to be transliterated, such as district, province etc. This is a simple HTML code, you may see it here temporarily :) Muhammad Shuaib (talk) 13:37, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Hello there, It seems to me the subject of the article is actively involved in writing and editing the article and has turned it into a personal résumé. Even the Wikipedia's automated service has picked up on that, "Grig8wan9rat7ok4 (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic". When I removed the second paragraph of the main article (on Behrouz "Brian" Vala Nahed) for being laughably promotional, it was quickly reverted. Even on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Brian Vala Nahed's page, the user "Grig8wan9rat7ok4" removed/edited the comments that he did not like, so I clicked on "View history" in order to undo his edits, but was unable to do so, as it asked for it to be done "manually". The consensus seems to be that the article should be deleted for good. As an administrator, you have the authority to remove it. Thank you for your assistance. AtheistIranian (talk) 11:50, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
- OK, done. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 12:59, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Could you assist?
I moved :ru:File:Filatov_A.V.jpg to commons (as it got uploaded to en-wiki, and we only need one copy) - easy part. Adding {{now commons}} to the Russian page has not worked as I thought it would - any change you could fix the template - other foreign language wikis do understand the {{now commons}} template - but the editing system on ru is rather odd, so not sure if I've put in correctly. Thanks. Ronhjones (Talk) 23:24, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi,
- Thanks for the question.
- A corresponding template exists in the Russian Wikipedia and you can see it by following the interlanguage link to Russian from {{now commons}}. I added it. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 05:58, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for that - Some of the European wikis do recognise the English version (probably a redirect), as I've moved images from fr, de, and it before with no problems. Didn't think about the inter-language links - good idea. Ronhjones (Talk) 19:22, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
White spaces
[1] has been reverted, can you describe how it fixed white spaces? Remember, you are not really encouraged to make edits that have no effect on the content or body of the article. You can remove white spaces if you want, but you should also make other changes on the page. OccultZone (Talk) 13:45, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- Uhhh, sorry about that. VisualEditor antics.
- I actually meant to add missing whitespace after a comma. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:06, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- No problem, it just happens that people starts to worry about the Visual editor or any other program that you may have used during your edit. Sometimes when I had made error with the AWB, one would ask me "have you reported the bug?" It is common expression. OccultZone (Talk) 14:14, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
Lontara
Hi Amire80
I saw a message about Boeginees Lontara script at your translatewiki page. I normally work at nl.wiktionary and I had added a bunch of Bugis words from Matthes dictionary. nl:wikt:Categorie:Woorden in het Boeginees In Lontara. I had downloaded Saweri and I could see them, cut and paste them and they were visible on wikitionary. All in firefix on a Windows machine. I even put a link to the saweri page for people who wanted to check my work. A few 'updates' later and everything reverted to illegible squares. I redownloaded saweri and another font TULISAN, restarted my computer, but nothing works. As I understand little about such technicalities, my question is simply: help!?
Is there anything I can do to fix it?
Thanks in advance Jcwf (talk) 17:22, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Copies of pages
He y. I'd like you to send a copy of the page "Ragequit" to my email. I would also like to see that deleted HOV page, about where they are in every state. Thanks! Muchacha1994 (talk) 04:54, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I cannot send anything to your email, because I don't know it and you didn't configure your email in the preferences. If you do that, I'll send you these things. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 06:19, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- My email address is now in my preferences. Muchacha1994 (talk) 21:14, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- Muchacha1994, I emailed you the deleted Ragequit article.
- What are you referring to by "HOV"? High-occupancy vehicle lane? It's not deleted. Or do you refer to something else? --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 09:34, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

Text from Deleted Page request?
Hi Amire80,
We're trying to chase up some information related to our Hall of Residence at the Australian National University, Bruce Hall. The page has been deleted (it was at en/Bruce_Hall_(Australian_National_University) ). We're not necessarily asking for it to be undeleted (I understand it may not meet the guidelines), but there was some content on that page related to the Bruce Hall Players (our theatre company) that may not be recorded anywhere else.
Is there any way you could send me the text for that page so that we can extract that information for our alumni network please?
Extension request
I would request to develop such extension for all languages that create an extra tab with read, edit or history tab, or anywhere else, when any confirmed user hits that button, this extension auto corrects all spelling mistakes existed on the page.
It may be useful to create a special page for those wikis they enabled it, where they put and enter the wrong and right spellings.
Hope you would think about it :-) Muhammad Shuaib (talk) 13:10, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Muhammad,
- I love this idea! In fact, I've been trying to find resources to create such a tool for a long time :)
- I added this idea as a project proposal for the upcoming OPW internship program: mw:Mentorship programs/Possible projects#Unified language proofing tools integration framework.
- It's not final that it will be accepted, but it might be. If you know a woman with JavaScript coding skills that might want to do it, tell her about it. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 11:23, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
Request for Intervention
User:Amire80, shalom! There is currently a dispute between me and a Filipino editor (see: User PacificWarrior101) about what is considered worthy or not worthy of publishing on a WP article page because of what may or may not be perceived by others as distasteful (bad taste). See the editor's Talk page, the sub-title "Kamusta ka na." The editor in question has posted a Commons photograph of Israeli singer, Dana International, a photograph which I personally feel shows bad taste and tends to "flout" the dignity and self-respect of the Yemenite Jewish people. I voiced my concerns to the editor about my feelings of repugnancy evoked by the picture on a main article page that treats on ethnicity, namely Yemenite Jews. Most Yemenite Jews will feel a sense of shame by seeing this photo of "Dana International" on the page that speaks specifically about them as a people - and who, by the way, are mostly conservative to religious. Can you please help me resolve this dispute with User PacificWarrior101? I sense that our Filipino editor is recalcitrant to sound-reason. Perhaps you can give me some guidelines as to how it is best to resolve this issue.Davidbena (talk) 12:44, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
- See the article's talk page.
- And please curb your transphobia when editing Wikipedia. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 13:00, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
- The bare and banal truth is that there is widespread transphobia amongst a people reared in religion, as the Yemenite Jews were. We cannot ignore this fact, my dear friend. I have often discussed transgender issues with one particular transgender youth, Jazz. I have no problems about discussing the issue. That is not the question here, but rather, about flouting an ethnic group. The amplitude of disagreements will always exist amongst us, but no one is permitted to flout an ethnic group.Davidbena (talk) 13:56, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
- There is transphobia everywhere, and if you erase a trans person from a place where that person quite rightly belongs and even specifically say that you erase that person because of transsexuality, then it should occur to you that you are creating more transphobia.
- Dana International was good enough for singing a Yemenite song on a international television broadcast, so she should be good enough for a Wikipedia article, too.
- If you want to do something good for Wikipedia and for Yemenite Jews, write an English article about Yigal Bashan instead of arguing about perfectly appropriate photos. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:13, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

QUESTION
Hi, Amir. In our current discussion on the Yemenite Jews Talk page, can you agree on a compromise that will have Dana's photo placed deeper down in the article, rather than at the very top in the collage?Davidbena (talk) 19:19, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Mosab Hassan Yousef, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Palestinian. UniPers
While casually reading Romanization of Persian I came across a reference to "UniPers", and followed the link... which went nowhere. It looks like the link was to a section of that article that you removed. I know nothing about the topic, so I'm not questioning your judgment in doing that. Unfortunately though the article defines the official Iranian Latin script and the Bahá'i in terms of UniPers, without defining the latter, so a lot of information has gone missing. I've removed the link, but someone who knows about the topic will have to fix it properly. Hairy Dude (talk) 23:12, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Hairy Dude,
- Wow, very old memories.
- I remember being involved in the deletion of a related article called "IPA2" (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/IPA2 (2nd nomination)). I don't remember being directly involved in the deletion of the "UniPers" article, but it seems like it had a similar problem - no source. You can see an old version here. I don't know much Persian myself, but an article whose only source is a dubious personal website without a clear professional backing is always suspect. In fact, it's possible that all references to UniPers should be removed from Romanization of Persian.
- It is also possible that somebody who knows Persian well can prove that I'm actually talking nonsense and that UniPers is a valid system :)
- Sorry I cannot help more... --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:46, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

British Jews
I complained on the Talk-page of British Jews that they have decided to remove the name and picture of the best female British scientist Rosalind Franklin from the list of prominent British Jews, but they have ignored my request to reverse this edit. My comment is as follows: I find it really strange that a Wikipedia editor has decided to remove the name of DNA pioneer, and possibly the best UK female scientist, (i.e. Rosalind Franklin) from the main pictures of prominent British Jews. I think her picture and name should have not been removed, especially when there are only 2 women pictures left (out of 12 pictures). Please could someone reverse this edit and add the late Rosalind Franklin's picture to the list of prominent British Jews.
Could you please add Rosalind Franklin's picture to the list of prominent British Jews (which was removed for unexplained reasons [perhaps jealousy])? 92.16.10.252 (talk) 08:55, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Universal Language Selector
Your answer to my query on enwiki was helpful for me to understand the idea behind that change. Afterwards I posted on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk:Universal_Language_Selector/Design/Interlanguage_links#At_first_I_just_laughed_but_now_I_see_a_.28small.29_point, but at the moment that page seems not to be active. As you seem to be involved in the project 4 short (!) points for consideration:
- Giving a personalized choice of relevant languages at the top of the language list is a good idea. Would help me in my style of article creation (usually snooping around in 3-8 versions how they do the intro to the topic)
- Showing "Common languages" by geographical location is not a good idea. Because presently the results are still random (I see the results for my position at Tehran), and from my knowledge of living in multilanguage countries in Asia and Africa not really relevant for users. Nobody over here knows e.g. Georgian.
- sorting the languages by continents is also not really helpful, rather adds to confusion and takes more time (to look for which language where? Especially for languages which have status in more than 1 continent. Looking for Português or Nederlands in the abc-sorting I can straight go to "P" or "N"; here I have to look first if the programme deems it to be international or European; putting in both makes the whole list longer.) And if I look e.g. for Tatar, I have to know it is in Europe, not Asia. If I remember Turkey as Asian country, I look in vain...
- the remaining partly alfabetic list (sometimes showing 9, sometimes less) is decorative but pretty useless.
Cheers Kipala (talk) 08:10, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
- Language that you select are automatically added to the list, so if you use it, it will adjust to you automatically.
- The results are not random. They are selected according to languages that you selected and languages of your area. What makes you think that they are random? Which languages to you see from Tehran? Georgian does appear as one of the languages of Iran, albeit a small one, see the table here: http://unicode.org/cldr/charts/27/supplemental/territory_language_information.html . So you can't say that it's "no-one".
- Continents are somewhat useful - they are certainly not damaging. From our statistics we found that most people use the search box to find the language they need anyway.
- We are going to improve the "partly alphabetic list" - that's another reason why this feature is still beta.
- Thanks for the feedback! --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 10:10, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

Huiquipedia nahuatl
Hi Amire80, Thanks for help me, I don't speak English very well, but I understand this language.
First; We have new changes in Wiki nahuatl, the international code is correct (.nah), we use this intercode for all Nahuatl variants. In Wikipedia is named Nāhuatl, but native Nahuatl speakers say Nahuatlahtolli (Nahuatl language or Mexican language), nahuatl is a person or Nahuatl speaker, this is similar Runa simi (People language in Quechua), Avañe'e (Guarani language) or Aymar aru (Aymara language).
Second; We need change the old scripture by simple scripture in nahuatl: Classical Nahuatl use diferent alphabet ( Ā ā, Ē ē, Ī ī, Ō ō, Ç ç), but new Nahuatl variants don't use linguistic symbols, this is complicated write in PC; Nahuatl speakers prefer a Simple Alphabet; por example: Xōchitl, Māçatl, Nāuatl (old scripture) and Xochitl, Mazatl, Nahuatl (simple alphabet).
Their; We have change Spanish and English texts in Huiquipedia for Nahuatl texts.
Fourth; We need use a Classical simple scripture without use diferents texts in other Nahuatl variants.
I am working about it, also I am order all categories in Nahuatl wikipedia. We have in contact Amire.--Marrovi (talk) 20:32, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- Marrovi, puede escribir en español, por favor? Lo entendré mejor. :) --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 20:36, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
--Marrovi (talk) 20:56, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
A Modern Hebrew pronunciation question
Greetings: I have a Hebrew pronunciation question. Normally the pronunciation of the יו combination at the end of words when it signals possession is /v/. But when the last vowel of the word is /i/ I've also heard the pronunciation /u/, so for אביו 'his father' both /a-viv/ and /a-vi-u/. Is that correct? Thanks. Contact Basemetal here 01:39, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- אביו is /aviv/, pronounced the same as in תל אביב, though it's a different word.
- Most often יו is -av, which looks a bit unusual, but you get used to it.
- Occasionally it's -yo, for example in מיטת חוליו - /miˈtat ħoˈljo/ - "his sickness bed".
- I cannot think of any situation when it's /iu/ in Modern Hebrew, except foreign words like ניו יורק. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 07:11, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- I wonder then did I hear someone use an incorrect form אביהו instead of אביו? Is אביהו a common mistake for אביו? Contact Basemetal here 13:02, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- אביהו is a name, Avihu. I never heard it as a replacement for אביו, not even as a mistake. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 13:14, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your help. I have another question: do most Israelis make a difference in pronunciation between אישהּ 'her husband' and אישה 'woman'? Contact Basemetal here 13:56, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- "Her husband" is usually בעלה, not אישה. Most Israelis probably don't even know that the possessive ה is "supposed" to be different from the feminine ה, so these words would be pronounced the same if anybody actually used such a construction, but I don't recall ever hearing it. If somebody wants to use איש instead of בעל for "her husband", it's far more likely to be "האיש שלה", with a separate word for "her" (or maybe בן הזוג שלה or בן זוגה, which literally means "her coupled", or in more natural English - her spouse or her partner.)
- Some women do say "אישי" for "my husband", though. It's a mix of mild feminism with religious inspiration from Hosea 2: "And it shall be at that day, saith the LORD, that thou shalt call me Ishi; and shalt call me no more Baali". It is written and pronounced the same as the adjective meaning "personal", but it's unlikely to be confused. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:11, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- At least אישהּ is used in the Bible, e.g. וַתִּתֵּ֧ן גַּם־לְאִישָׁ֛הּ עִמָּ֖הּ וַיֹּאכַֽל. But I get your point, which is, if I understand you correctly, that the sound /h/ is never used in Israeli Hebrew a the end of words? Which is surprising to me since, unless I'm mistaken, /h/ can be found at the end of non-final syllables as in יהיה /ih-ye/ 'will be'. Or do Israelis pronounce that word /i-ye/? I also have one question about כתיב מלא. Regarding the conventions of כתיב מלא, do Israelis do more or less what they want (within limits) or do they rigidly follow a standard practice? In particular I'm curious if the letter ה is ever used as אם קריאה in כתיב מלא beyond its well-known use as אם קריאה in כתיב חסר? I can give you examples where that would seem useful, but first I'd like to know if this is ever done, albeit informally. Contact Basemetal here 19:23, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- At the end of the word the consonant ה is pronounced only by a rather small number of people who take care to speak in a standard way, and in casual speech it's completely silent.
- In the middle and beginning of words it's almost entirely merged with the role of א. Nevertheless, quite a lot of people do pronounce it differently. In a word like יהיה a lot of people will completely omit it, so it will be something like /jije/ rather than /jihje/.
- About כתיב מלא - Israelis do more or less what they want within limits. Only a very small number of crazy nerds (like me ;) ) follow the Academy's standard (or, for that matter, are aware of its existence). Even Hebrew teachers in school usually don't follow it or know it (this is my #1 reason for not wanting to send my son to school, although I have a few years of naive hope till I have to decide). I'm not sure to what usage of ה in spelling do you refer, however - can you please provide an example? You made me very curious. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 19:50, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- Well what I mean is this: כתיב חסר uses, as אמות קריאה, the four letters א, ה, ו, י. Now the extensions in the use of אמות קריאה that כתיב מלא introduced only make use of the letters ו and י (either using them as אמות קריאה in more places than כתיב חסר or doubling them, וו and יי, where one wants precisely to show that they are not being used as אמות קריאה but as full letters). However, as to the letters א and ה, well כתיב מלא uses them as אמות קריאה only where they are already being used as such in כתיב חסר. In other words כתיב מלא, at least the official version, does not extend their use as אמות קריאה. At least so far as I am aware. Now I could see places where the two letters א and ה could be used to improve readability and reduce ambiguity and I was wondering if in the informal use of כתיב מלא by Israelis (not in the official rules) such uses occur. Here is one specific and very common example: even כתיב מלא (as practiced say in newspapers) does not give you a way (other than context, which is not always available) to distinguish in the 2nd person singular of verbal forms, prepositions and possessives, a masculine form from a feminine form. For example לך 'to you' may stand for both the masculine /lkha/ and the feminine /lakh/, אמרת 'you said' may stand for both the masculine /amarta/ and the feminine /amart/, etc. Now using ה as אם קריאה in such cases would make it easy to distinguish between the two: one would simply write לכה and אמרתה in the masculine and לך and אמרת in the feminine and the ambiguity would disappear. So I was wondering if you've ever seen people in Israel informally using ה in כתיב מלא for this sort of purpose? Contact Basemetal here 22:47, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- Oh I see, I thought that it might be something like this, but wasn't sure.
- In second-person past tense verbs it is used occasionally by some people. Socially, it is definitely considered a mistake, comparable to writing "seperate" or confusing "their" with "there", or even more wrong than that. It's always spontaneous - it's never intentionally used by educated people for disambiguation. Of course it's amusing to note that such spelling was actually used occasionally in the Bible, see s:Gesenius' Hebrew Grammar/44. Flexion of the Perfect of Qal#GHGpar-44-g. Hebrew educators in the late 19th centuries could have decided to teach children to write like that and today it could become the standard.
- With second-person possessive ך suffix it's imaginable as well, although I don't remember ever seeing this. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 10:30, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
- Great. Thanks a lot for your help Amir. It's great to find someone who is both a speaker of Hebrew and is able to explain it well (which is not always true of all speakers of Hebrew) and is also a linguist. I hope that in the future, if I have more questions about Hebrew, I can come and ask you. Cheers. Thanks again. Contact Basemetal here 14:36, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Ahmed Ibrahim Artan
HI Amire80
There's Somali politician's page that has been deleted for several times, I'm looking help from you if you can restore that page Ahmed Ibrahim Artan --A326 17:24, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I restored it to User:A326/Ahmed Ibrahim Artan.
- I cannot help you with restoring it to the article namespace, because it is unreferenced. Of the three references, two are dead links, and the third talks about somebody else. To make it into a viable article in the article namespace, you'll have to find sources that can help readers and other editors to verify the information, according to pages like WP:V, WP:BLP, WP:CITE, etc. Thanks for understanding. --Amir E. Contenttranslation project at beta
Hello, can you please take a look at phab:T109157, you are the one who created the main page at beta eswiki, so maybe you know more. The problem is, that this wiki is very strongly affected by spambots (I don't know why this wiki, when im blocking these bots, and deleted that spam), and not used by any user (except me), so I don't see any user who needs this wiki, but I want to ask your project first, because I don't want to decide it, if it is unclear that someone still needs it. If your project don't need it, we will lock the database there, via siteadmin, so nobody can do anything there, no editing, deleting, blocking and so on, just read. If there is a new reason to use this wiki later, you or others can ask me oder another beta steward or developer, than someone of us can unlock the database. Greetings, Luke081515 01:05, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up.
- I don't think that we use it for testing any more, so it can probably be locked, but I'll let Runa and Kartik reply at the ticket. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 08:21, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

gr8 comment u made on Rotten Tomatoes
hello Amire80, I was really digging ur comment on Rotten Tomatoes...as a serious film fan (i used to work as an animator) i've always felt that Rotten Tomatoes is full of "hipster attitude." They seem to emulate disrespect for arts & film as a "cool" way to promote themselves, a sad sign of our times-- a sarcastic hipster signature of ego. In a related sense, I fist saw ur wiki-work in ur post of an Aleppo Codex image for an article describing Koheleth--yes I'm Jewish also & was recently listening to that most classic-rock song from my Jewish-summer-camp days, performed by The Byrds [originally written by Pete Seger, truly a Spiritual & deeply human dude], the song "Turn Turn Turn."
It's lyrics are from the book of Koheleth, thus in a way tying-into the vanity of hipsters like Rotten Tomatoes. Truly a song of consciousness-raising that emerged from that gr8 folk-hero music scene of the 60s/70s. It was good to see a comment on the enigmatic nature of Koheleth in a quote from that wiki with the insight, "On this reading, Koheleth's sayings are goads, designed to provoke dialogue and reflection in his readers, rather than to reach premature and self-assured conclusions." I appreciate the deeply human/honest approach that no matter who/what Koheleth is, was or was not saying, he certainly intended to bring forth an attitude of thinking and pondering even though most critics & philosophers tend only to dissect the book along the lines of it's concepts of futility & burn-out (such as "all is vanity"). Ok, hope to chat w/ you in the future, peace, Shalom, Rob M. — Preceding unsigned comment added by R0b's cloudy constructs (talk • contribs) 08:10, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.
I wanted to follow-up on an message I sent you in September regarding the need for you to sign a confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 in order to maintain your access from Wikimedia to nonpublic information, and specifically to the OTRS system.
As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are transitioning to the new policy.
An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.
The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain their access. You are receiving this message because you have access to nonpublic information by way of the OTRS system and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy. If you do not sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015, you will lose your OTRS access.
Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign
If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.
If you wish to stop receiving these notices, you may remove yourself from this list. Please note that doing so will not prevent you from losing OTRS rights and access after the 31 December 2015 deadline.
Thank you,

Hi there,
I created a new page for the CEO of Brisbane City Council, but it has become deleted for lack of notability and content. Would you be able to grab me a copy of the content for when I get enough time to commit to developing the page to an adequate level.

Dear Amire
What do I do when my English original content of this title has been substituted with some of the untrue information, and some of it is really provocative? What must I do because this is an important information that needs to be known to be known by readers --Nomden —Preceding undated comment added 08:54, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Hey, I found your name here. I want to ask if you can upload this photo to the Wikimedia Commons so that I can use it here in En.Wiki. Thanks. Mhhossein (talk) 08:29, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for asking.
- Unfortunately, I need to check that the license is OK first. I suspect that the credit is wrong. Thanks for understanding. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 08:50, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah sure, I understand that the licensing issue should be OK. Thanks for your swift response, I'm waiting to see the outcome of your checking the license. --Mhhossein (talk) 10:35, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
Hey, I created this page in Hebrew Wikipedia using Wikipedia translation tools and Google translate. I wonder if you can tell me whether the article has the minimum requirements. Mhhossein (talk) 14:17, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
- I'll have to disappoint you: publishing machine translation if you don't know the target language is never a good idea. Google Translate makes a lot of mistakes in Hebrew and in all other languages. You can only use it as a helper to save some time, but before publishing you have to correct everything. If you don't know the language, just don't do it. Sorry, but unless you can quickly find somebody who can fix it, it will probably be deleted. I cannot do this myself, because I have neither the time nor the relevant knowledge about this topic. My apologies :( --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:29, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
- I found your comment fair enough and thank you for that. I can understand what you say. The article has apparently undergone some changes. I think some one has trimmed the article and unfortunately removed refs! As far as I see, the article has survived deletion by now. Anyway, does Hebrew Wikipedia has something like WP:GOCE? Or are there groups of editor who can create the articles at request? Mhhossein (talk) 17:56, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
- Removing references is wrong. If you think that the references are correct, can you please tell it to the person who removed them? (I should mention that the Hebrew Wikipedia has a specific rule that forbids copying references from articles in a foreign language, but if yo “testify” that you checked it, then it's OK.)
- There's no direct corresponding page to GOCE, but you can try the embassy. Even though the Hebrew Wikipedia is quite active, it's much smaller than the English one, so it might be harder to find somebody who will have the needed time or expertise, but you can always try ;) --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 18:31, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Это в be.wiki.
--Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:27, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
--Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 16:07, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

Hello Mr Aharoni,
Nice to meet you.
Could you kindly help me transliterate this text into Cyrillic Hebrew? please.
Your help would be fully appreciated, Thank you. --DaveZ123 (talk) 03:08, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
- Before I do that, just wanted to make sure that you do know that this verse is a translation from ancient Greek to modern Hebrew, so it's somewhat artificial, and not a good example of ancient Hebrew. But here you go:
- Ки ко аһа́в элоһи́м эт һаола́м ад ки ната́н эт бно йехидо́ лема́ан ло йова́д коль һамаами́н бо э́ла йинха́ль хайе́ ола́м
- Also, you had some weird unnecessary characters in the original message, and I removed them. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 08:08, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you very much Mr for your awesome transliteration! The Hebrew language is very unique.
- Could you also help with the Latin transcription:
- I used one of the online tools and it produced this:
""ki̇y kֺ̇h ʼáhab ʼèlòhiym ʼeţ háʻwòlám ʻad ki̇y náţan ʼeţ bĕ̇nwò yĕẖiydwò lĕmaʻan lòʼ yֺʼbad ká̇l hamȧʼàmiyn ḃwò, ʼelá̇ʼ yinĕẖal ẖayé̇y ʻwòlám.
- Could you help check to see if it is correct or not? --DaveZ123 (talk) 09:18, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
- Not really. It's a hyper-correct transliteration and not a transcription, and it's hardly useful. To begin with, it has too many diacritics and it doesn't distinguish between the different types of dagesh, and between vowel and consonant vav. It may be useful for some exceptionally narrow technical tasks, but not for the general public. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 09:22, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
- Also, for the Hebrew language (עברית), is it written as Иври́т in Cyrillic Hebrew? --DaveZ123 (talk) 09:25, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
- This is correct, but usually "Иврит" is enough. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 09:30, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
- Just for your information, I have now added the transliterations onto this page. What do you think of it? --DaveZ123 (talk) 09:33, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
- I love reading foreign languages, but:
- The choice of verse is religious and thus unnecessarily divisive. Unless the purpose of your site is specifically Christian, the UDHR would be a more universal and acceptable choice.
- There are many unusual transliterations there, such as Лєтувиў, Деуч, Зyoми, and many, many others.
- Belarusian is a former USSR language. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 10:15, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for your useful insights and feedback. I will take them into consideration and move Belarusian to the former USSR language language grouping (maybe tomorrow when I have time).
- Yes, I agree that my blog site is not specifically stated to be exclusively for a Christian audience because it is mainly about transliteration of text and anyone from any religious or non-religious background can use transliteration tools.
- When I use a transliteration tool (eg. Telugu, Tamil etc.), I don't check to see if the developer is Christian or not because they most likely are not. But this is irrelevant because transliteration is for everyone to use on whichever topic they want to know. --DaveZ123 (talk) 10:30, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
- I apologize if the text offended you. It was not my intention at all. That particular page was intended for a Christian audience. Thanks for the translation anyway, it means a lot to me. --DaveZ123 (talk) 10:38, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
- It doesn't offend me at all. I'm well aware that it's used for multilingual examples by The Gideons and by other people and groups, but they are usually specifically Christian. I am not even saying that it's offensive, but it may be divisive. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 11:02, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

How to write these English letters in Cyrillic?
Dear Amire,
I am attempting to have English letters written in Cyrillic and have encountered the following difficulties:
- align, arrive, admire = Cyrillic letter: __ э
- ocean, oak, hope = Cyrillic letter __ оу
- it, bit, stick, interesting = Cyrillic letter __ и. It would be more precise to use ы, but this letter is only used for words and names that come from languages of Russia as well as Turkey, Eastern Europe, China and Korea, but not other lands. A matter of convention.
- washington, kensington, welcome = Cyrillic letter __ intuitive: о; more precise: а; really precise: use IPA! :)
- umbrella, understand, until = Cyrillic letter __ а
- acorn, late, fate, rate = Cyrillic letter __ эй
- theme, thick, thigh, thin = Cyrillic letter __ no good way to transcribe, usually т, sometimes с
- this, that, them, their, they = Cyrillic letter __ no good way to transcribe, usually д, sometimes з
- Who, to, do, shoe = Cyrillic letter __ у, even though it's really not precise
- Cage, page, engage = Cyrillic letter __ дж
- Abel, Label, Cable, stable= Cyrillic letter __ бл
- Let, met, set = Cyrillic letter __ э in the beginning of the word or after a vowel, and sometimes also after consonant. Sometimes е is more appropriate, but there's no hard rule.
- Round, found, hound, ground = Cyrillic letter __ а
If you could give the closest cyrillic approximation to those words then it would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you. --DaveZ123 (talk) 22:15, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help Amire! Could you take a look at this page and tell me what you think of it? (btw, this time it is not religion oriented) --DaveZ123 (talk) 10:15, 4 September 2016 (UTC)
- ъ is an odd transliteration for apostrophe. It can just remain as an apostrophe.
- нюўс should be ньюз
- Ундерўуд should be Андерўуд
- ә transcribes too many sounds. If you use it at all, I'd reserve it to sounds such as the first 'e' in 'serve'. It might be useful for speakers of Azerbaijani and Bashkir, but I'm less sure about speakers of Russian.
- нэймъд can be just нэймд.
- ы is overused. I'd say it shouldn't be used for English at all, and if you do use, you must be very consistent. Currently it's a mess.
- I understand what þ stands for because I know English and I know what does it stand for in Icelandic, but most other Russian speakers will have no idea what does it mean. If you're open to non-Russian letters, consider the Bashkir letters ҙ and ҫ.
- There are many more issues, but that's a start. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 11:47, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

- Hi,
- At the moment, in the English Wikipedia you can publish to a different namespace. For example, if you are translating the article "Oslo", then you need to type "User:BlackBird./Oslo" as the title of the new article. After you publish it, you can move it to the main space.
- Thanks. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 06:59, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:07, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers
Hi Amire80.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:46, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
Compact language links for Persian Wikipedia
Hello, I was directed to you by Whatamidoing (WMF) to figure out how I can make languages relevant to Iran get listed in the Persian language Wikipedia. Right now languages such as Finnish are shown in the initial list (for me), whereas languages such as Kurdish and Azeri are not shown in that short list. Reading the article on Compact language links, I understand that these choices are based on where the reader is located. However, I was wondering if there was a way to bypass this in a way that would make indigenous languages appear by default in Persian Wikipedia regardless of the reader's location? In addition to being relevant for Iranians and Afghans outside of their respective countries, it would also be helpful for those behind proxies. Is this possible? Yilangren (talk) 22:35, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi User:Yilangren,
- As you can see on Compact language links, the links are automatically adapted for every user after clicking the desired language. So, for example, if somebody doesn't see Kurdish, but then finds Kurdish in the list and clicks it, then it will be shown the next time. In the future we may also support taking the languages from the Babel box on the user page, although this will only work for logged-in users who actually created a Babel box, and currently this is blocked by an issue in how the Babel extensions caches the languages, but I hope to fix it some day. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk)
- Hi User:Amire80, I understand that they're able to do that, but I would like the default languages displayed to include local languages and not languages such as Finnish. In other words, if a reader (who may not have a Wikipedia account) wants a local language, they should be able to automatically see it on the side bar as opposed to having to click "X other languages" to find it. So, for the Persian Wikipedia, it would be nice to have on the Languages sidebar Arabic, Azeri, Kurdish, Persian, Uzbek etc and then if they want another language they can search for it. Yilangren (talk) 16:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- It sounds like Yilangren wants "Geographic information, which is based on the CLDR Territory-Language information", but for the country most associated with the language, rather than the reader's own country. This would probably work well for a language that is tightly associated with a single country, but it would not work so well for languages that are spoken in multiple countries. For Persian, which is spoken in several countries, this would presumably prioritize at least the Pashto, Ossetic, Tajik and two Kurdish Wikipedias. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:53, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- Well, something like this has been possible long before Compact Language Links by using the sortPrepend settings from Wikidata, and Compact Language Links respects this setting. Judging by the readership statistics, it seems that the Persian Wikipedia is indeed strongly associated only with Iran, but this settings should nevertheless be used really carefully. For example, I strongly suggest against using more than three languages there because it can deprioritize more useful languages, and to revisit this setting occasionally and not treating it as "set in stone" forever. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 17:13, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

N'ko (nqo) incubator project
Hi Amir,
There is some need to look at the way the N'ko incubator was set up. Editors including Youssoufkadialy are seeing some variation between what they edit and what they view. Directionality issues and right-justification might also need fixing.

- Hi,
- I reported the right-to-left problem at Phabricator: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T152908 . Thank you for bringing this up.
- What other problems are there? --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:28, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
The justification and linebreaking in the edit mode appear to be at variance with what is displayed in the reading mode. ~~@zenodotus — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.132.173.112 (talk) 21:50, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

Help needed at documentation page for template refn
Hello Amire80, Thank you very much for your contribution to Template:Refn/doc for adding template parameters table through this edit. I made a good faith edit at documentation page & tried rearranging the 'see also' link & template wp referencing at the bottom of the page, below this table. But on doing so,'template parameters table' contents are visible only inside the editor box, but is not visible in the WP page. So I put it back in the old spot. That did not help to make it visible again. (It is visible in Template:Refn page). If you could spare some time, can you please take a look to sort it out, and display it again on doc page. Thanks in advance, by 2know4power (talk) 00:14, 16 February 2017 (UTC).
- Hi 2know4power, looks like Jonesey95 fixed it.
