Your Tool Labs tools seem to be down

Specifically, the page that's supposed to contain all your stuff is now apparently offline and presents only a blank page when clicked on: [1] I would greatly appreciate it if you could fix this because of how often I use the "Pages created" tool. Jinkinson talk to me 01:47, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

I just fixed it on accident. Unfortunately, that also means I have no idea why it broke in the first place. Send me another message if it goes down. Σσς(Sigma) 04:24, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
It's down again. XXN (talk) 16:39, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
Just came here to complain long and bitterly and found that someone already had... (Looks around vacantly for a moment before wandering away.) G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 19:28, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

Sorry if this duplicates the issue discussed above, but, in case it doesn't: the pages created link at {{Rfplinks}} doesn't seem to be working properly. The page says that you maintain the tool that the link leads to; do you have any ideas about what the matter might be? Thanks, It Is Me Here t / c 11:12, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Age of threads archived by lowercase sigmabot III

Hi, when a page is set up for archiving by using the {{User:MiszaBot/config}} pseudo-template, it often specifies something like |algo=old(30d) which means that threads older than 30 days will be archived (where permitted by |minthreadsleft= and |minthreadstoarchive=). I have three questions:

  1. Which timestamp is this based on - is it the latest one in the thread, or the last one? Consider a thread like this:
Original post. (signature of user A) 12:00, 23 June 2014
::Second reply. (signature of user C) 12:00, 7 July 2014
:First reply. (signature of user B) 12:00, 30 June 2014

The latest timestamp (12:00, 7 July 2014) is less than 30 days ago, but the last timestamp in the thread (12:00, 30 June 2014) is more than 30 days ago - so will this thread be archived or not?
  2. If there are two timestamps on the same line, like this:
Original post. (signature of user A) 12:00, 23 June 2014
    :Please see my comment of 12:00, 1 March 2014. (signature of user B) 12:00, 7 July 2014

which one is used for calculating the 30 days?
  3. If the last line of text in the thread has no timestamp, like this:
Original post. (signature of user A) 12:00, 23 June 2014
    :Reply. (signature of user B) 12:00, 30 June 2014
    :Undated comment by user B

will it prevent the thread from being archived, or will the 12:00, 30 June 2014 timestamp be used? --Redrose64 (talk) 12:45, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

According to the source code, "The most recent stamp should be used to see if we should archive". Therefore, in all three cases, the stamp closest to today would be used. Threads without any stamps at all would not be archived. Σσς(Sigma) 19:53, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. --Redrose64 (talk) 21:27, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Backlog in removal of prot templates

Next question: do you recall this problem? It's back: Lowercase sigmabot (talk · contribs) stopped editing in April, and DumbBOT (talk · contribs) doesn't seem to catch all of them, so Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates is building up again. I do quite a few each day, but it's not been less than 100 or so for a few weeks now. --Redrose64 (talk) 21:27, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

There was a bug that led to it edit-warring with itself, but I never got around to fixing it. A one-off run, which I will start right now, will not lead to edit-warring. Recent developments at Module talk:Protection banner, if implemented, will likely lead to restoring the bot's position as protection-template-manager. Σσς(Sigma) 21:58, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Pages Created

Currently "Pages Created" lists the pages created excluding the redirect pages created, and the description on the page does not state that fact. I would appreciate if "redirect pages created" could be added to it, or, "excluding the redirect pages created" be added to the description. Thanks. Yiba (talk | contribs) 04:44, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Done. Σσς(Sigma) 07:24, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much. Appreciate if the addition of "redirect pages created" be kept in your mind for the future. These days I almost always create a new article as a redirect page to start with and then expand the content, or expand an existing redirect page to make it a new individual article. Missing pages in the Created Pages list

Hello. I was looking at the list of created pages of the user Fext at cs.wikisource, and I found out, that some of them are missing in the list. The second page of his list of created pages ends with Ottův slovník naučný/Obecné trestní právo and the following page starts with Ottův slovník naučný/Právo, which means that there are 12 pages created on 16 Sept. 2012 missing, as can be seen here. I do not know, if this is the only case or if there are even more pages missing.

May I ask, how this happened and whether it is possible that there are similar errors in the lists of other users too? Jan.Kamenicek (talk) 22:18, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

I have just found more examples. On 22 Apr. 2014 I founded pages Ottův slovník naučný/Železný dobytek ‎and Ottův slovník naučný/Železodrev at cs.wikisource (see here) but they are not in the list of Created Pages. It seems the problem is similar: One page of the list finishes with Ottův slovník naučný/Železný Jan and the following page starts with Ottův slovník naučný/Železo, omitting two created pages in between. Jan.Kamenicek (talk) 23:16, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
It's because it rounds the date down to midnight. When the startdate parameter is 20120916, it will display pages created before that day. Those twelve pages that were missing were omitted because they were created on that day after 0:00. I will need to think of a solution for this. Σσς(Sigma) 08:08, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

Defaults

Hi Σ,
I've been giving a bit of thought to settings used with archive bots generally.
When_to_condense_pages says: It is recommended to archive or refactor a page either when it exceeds 75 KB, or has more than 10 main sections.
no time limit is given
I personally don't know what the justification for recommending archival when a page has more than 10 sections as 10 sections will rarely contain anything close to 75MB. Never the less I was hoping that defaults might be edited with:
'minthreadsleft': being given a value close to or exceeding 10
and
{'algo': 'old(x)', being given a value of 90 days or greater.
Values like these would safeguard active page contents so that random visitors to a topic would have a better chance to contribute to discussions and so that discussions may still be active if Users take a Wikipedia:Wikibreak.
Of course individual Users would still be able to change setting values related to individual pages and this could be done on an individual basis.
My personal interpretation is that different pages may have different needs with regard to archival. Some pages that deal with technical issues may have content issues that are resolved fairly quickly. Other pages regarding controversial topic or topics that can be approached from a variety of angles may have a potential for contribution from people with a wide variety of views but may receive varying amounts of traffic. As things stand all potential contributors need to do is not comment and leave it to bots to kick a topic into the long grass.

Usersearch broken?

Hi, I see Scotty is referring people to you for his tools ... https://tools.wmflabs.org/usersearch seems to be a broken link. I'm asking because I typically end my copyediting comments with a link to the tool so people can easily find my edits; I'll stop doing that if the tool is broken. - Dank (push to talk) 12:51, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

It seems to be working on my end. Σσς(Sigma) 19:47, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, it's working for me now too. It was giving a blank page for a day or so. - Dank (push to talk) 20:19, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

i contributions?

Hey, Σ. I saw that you mentioned "has made more than i contributions" on your user page. What is "i contributions"? I know this question might be a waste of time, but still. Remember to ping. Yours sincerely, DEW. Adrenaline (Nahnah4) 09:26, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

The max archive size is 300k bytes. The counter had already reached that limit. It had to be incremented; it was incremented. Σσς(Sigma) 07:28, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
I was specifically referring to the strange edit summary left by the bot. Dogmaticeclectic (talk) 09:32, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

AFD vote counter

My AfD vote counter doesn't count my "Keep" votes. Why is this? Can I manually add some to my page so it is correct? NickGibson3900 - Talk - Sign my Guestbook 22:54, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Communism

Can you restore my last 4 edits in the Communism article? They were removed by these 2 guys because of this nonsense: [3] [4] Zozs (talk) 01:19, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

I'd rather not. Let thei error-riddled theories collapse under their own weight in the light of cold truth. Σσς(Sigma) 01:48, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello

I am contacting you because I'm interested in talking to the user known as Skookum 1 . I am of the Skookum lineage and I feel like I may be related to this individual. Do you know this person and how I could contact them ? Or you could leave my name and email with them if that wouldn't be to difficult please and thank you . Hey, I just tried to archive my talk page for the first time and the bot gave up: [5] Any ideas? —Designate (talk) 02:05, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
