Ranavirus is a group of Nucleocytoplasmic large DNA viruses in the Iridoviridae family. Much like chytridiomycosis, this pathogen has affected amphibian populations worldwide.[1][2][3]
Etymology
editRana is derived from the Latin for frog.[4] It is also used as the genus name for true frogs, which can be infected by the viruses.
