- It's a lovely article Dr. B. Congrats. I have no doubt it will be approved as a GA. SusunW (talk) 21:01, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
- Cheers SusunW, glad you like it. It's admittedly a bit production/quote heavy (largely because one of the chief books about her is her own autobiography) but sufficient for GA I think. I'd trim by about 1000 words and cut back on a few quotes before I come to the peer review/FA stage. The important thing is that it's comprehensive and all the material there. I'm moving on to Cary Grant now.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:06, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

SRK dispute
editI don't know if you have time for this, but as the FA co-author of Shah Rukh Khan I wanted to make you aware that after the article was TFA, some editor wanted to remove something from the lead, which led to a big discussion here: Talk:Shah_Rukh_Khan#perhaps_the_world.27s_biggest_movie_star.3F. Now it has escalated to a DRN here: Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution_noticeboard#Talk:Shah_Rukh_Khan.23perhaps_the_world.27s_biggest_movie_star.3F. Annihilation of List of flamenco guitarists
editDear Dr., Re: Annihilation of List of flamenco guitarists. An editor has deleted all the redlinked flamenco guitarists but I restored them and tagged them with {{citation needed|date=November 2015}}
for now.
Can you help hang references on them and/or create stubs for them? Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk}
05:11, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Checkingfax. It's important to add red links to lists. I'll see if I can create a few this coming week, but there's quite a lot missing which I doubt I'll feel like doing.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:29, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
- Doc, a brand new editor, Natalie.Desautels used a redlink from that page and created a nice page for Canadian flamenco and classical guitarist Michael Laucke and in just 2 months out of diapers it is already getting 6000 page views per month. Yes, those red links are important and it took time for you to dig them all up. It would be a shame to lose them. Actually I just re-read the notability guidelines for lists and each list item does not need a reference unless somebody gets fussy.
- Congratulations on almost nailing article 5M on English Wikipedia Cheers!

Films
editThanks for the recommendations, Doc. Planning to watch Rififi today (might even catch up on my French that way. It is, after all, my third language.) Might I also recommend To Sir, With Love if you haven't seen it. Poitier's superb in it. — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 04:23, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Haven't seen that one, I'd noticed it on your list. Poitier is superb in most films though haha! I'm sure Lugnuts will also agree with me on Rififi!♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:27, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
- Yep, amazing film! The robbery scene is fantastic. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 10:33, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
- Kiss Me Deadly the same year I think has to definitely be one of the best Hollywood film noirs, the definitive noir I think. Better than many of the more hyped ones IMO.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:36, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Saw The Night of the Hunter yesterday too. Mitchum really makes you hate him in that. Loved the scene where he loses the children who travel upriver with their father's (biological) skiff and then he sort of says "mmmmaaahhhh!!" Found it a bit funny too. Plan to watch Cape Fear today. — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 04:19, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
- Watched Cape Fear (1962) today. Do watch it if you still haven't. Mitchum and Peck are in top form in it. — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 11:35, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
Yes, he's evil in that. I used to loathe Mitchum but he's steadily grown on me. Heaven Knows, Mr Allison is a good one. I don't think I've seen the original Cape Fear but I might be wrong. I still think he looked a nasty piece of work and shifty, nothing on George Raft though. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:37, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
- See the original ASAP (the AFI haven't ranked Mitchum's performance #28 for nothing!), as well as To Sir, With Love and Topkapi (Another Jules Dassin film, might remind you of Rififi in terms of the heist and Peter Ustinov rocks in it!). — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 12:59, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
- I'll see them when I can. I already have a head full of films I've been meaning to watch, I can't see them all! It's really going to take a at least 20 years before I see all I've been meaning to watch haha! I've been meaning to resume with the mid 70s and the 1001 book but as I was watching the Cary Grant earlier films I felt like beefing up on 30s films, a period I also love. You really must get the 1001 movies book, you can get the 2010 edition here for just 24 pence! Check out the cover of the 2013 edition♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:11, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
- Glad you enjoyed Cape Fear (BTW, why the Christian cross? Is it due to Mitchum's talk about human nature? ) Life of Pi on the 2013 edition, nice! Caught up with some Kurosawa too this week (Seven Samurai, Yojimbo and Sanjuro). Mifune was great in all the three. Loved it when he imitated the old man walking and when he fell off the horse in Seven Samurai. He was badass in the next two. Such versatility! — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 16:13, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
- The cross is for films which not only moved me spiritually but which have an "electric" atmosphere or creepiness to them which affect you emotionally in watching it. Cape Fear definitely has the classic elements of the latter.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:39, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

For bringing Maureen O'Hara and Newton House, Llandeilo to GA status within a span of ten days. This success of yours is a grand way to celebrate Sinatra's 100th anniversary from your side. Isn't it? Whenever i get i GA, i watch this by Michael Jackson, esp. for Billie Jean. If interested, you too can watch it. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 13:09, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

- Happy to know that, Doctor. But time flew away like nothing, isn't it? 32-years old track still remains fresh for me, mostly because of Jackson's performance. I loved it in this particular video because it broke a few conventions, say the length, that silver glow, spot lights etc. It was more spontaneous and natural yet very short. Thanks for that image of the 24-hour DYK sets. What a memory! I felt like I was riding your bandwagon for a whole month!
I think you should adjust the listing at WP:DYKSTATS to reflect the fact that there were 2 hooks and 2 images that added up to that grand total of 72,000 hits. Also, it should be listed in the regular December 2015 listing as well. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 00:16, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks in a box to all who participated in making this happen (copied from the article talk, but I can't do it for all who helprd, - that's why I left it there). - When we tried to do a bit of that kind for Sibelius, we were told that we have rulez to prevent it: no DYK when the TFA is related to the subject. Bad rulez I think, not supporting collaboration which is the key element. The Sibelius hooks will keep trickling.into the new year. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:17, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

- I didn't even know about Sinatra day! Than you so much for all your wonderful work on the world of articles that you've created. Sinatra was one of the reasons I joined Wikipedia, and to see so many brilliant editors makes me so happy. Gareth E. Kegg (talk) 16:02, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Thankyou User:Gareth E. Kegg!! Lovely words. They weren't all created by me but thanks to Yoninah and Miyagawa and myself mainly we managed to cover a lot. There'll be some new names in there like Hank Sanicola, Jack Entratter and Carl Cohen (businessman) which a lot of Sinatra buffs will recognize and be very grateful for. We even have Frank Sinatra and Jewish causes now! I'm working on Desert Inn at the moment, Sinatra's first Vegas venue. I may consider taking on Dean Martin in the New Year after I do Cary Grant.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:35, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
DYK for Jack Entratter
editOn 14 December 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Jack Entratter, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Jack Entratter's "Copa Girls" wore US$12,000 worth of costumes for opening night in the Sands Hotel and Casino's Copa Room? Cary Grant
editThanks for the comment re Cary Grant but I only fixed some referencing issues because he shows up at the Bristol cleanup list. I'm not interesting in working on that article in any depth - have plenty of other things at present.— Rod talk 19:35, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
OK, I'm done. It really is a good-looking article now that you've found all those sources. I spent a lot of time staring at all those unsourced paragraphs but was unable to find the information online. If you don't see my note on SusunW's page, I'd like to note that that picture of the Grand Lobby seems out of place, as it was taken in 2013 and the Desert Inn was destroyed ten years earlier. Yoninah (talk) 21:47, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Good job, yeah it looks near GA now. The lede could use some work now to reflect the article though, perhaps Rosie can look into that if she has time. The lobby image doesn't seem to fit does it? I think it was taken around 1999 but somebody just uploaded it in 2013 and claimed that was the uploading date. The focus should be on the classic Desert Inn covered in the text. I say remove it.
Next I think I'll do Ambassador Hotel (Los Angeles), which was one of Sinatra's main venues in LA. A very notable hotel and super modern for its era. No rush though, I want to get on with Cary Grant next, maybe towards the weekend.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:30, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

editThe article Desert Inn you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Desert Inn for things which need to be addressed. I noticed you saw I was working on this article the other day. I was amazed at how poor our coverage had been of the person who was really behind the success of the Paris climate meeting. I've expanded it quite a bit and wonder if it now qualifies for DYK. If it does, I would really appreciate having it nominated. We've been covering hundreds of women over the past two or three months but I don't think any have been as important as this one. Tubiana deserves a bit of promotion. Feel free to expand further if you wish.--Ipigott (talk) 16:19, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
Yes, a nice new article. I doubt I could be of much help though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:30, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- How can I find out if it is a candidate for DYK? I'm not very good at the mechanics and don't know which sections of the additions qualify as bone fine text.--Ipigott (talk) 21:20, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- You mean a x 5 expansion for DYK? Prose length was 600 B originally. You expanded it to 4916 B, easily a x5. Great job!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:26, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia Problems
editGreetings, Dr. Blofeld. Your user pages, particularly the one on Wikipedia Problems, are unique and interesting. Looking at the bulk and quality of your work, I can only say: it is astonishing! Your thoughts about the problems we face in WP and your suggestions are also praiseworthy. I can imagine that investing so much energy in WP has made you a more knowledgeable, compassionate and sensitive person. Please, continue your work. For the future of WP, I sincerely hope your thoughts and ideas will have the attention they deserve. You inspire others. I was a bit confused, however, with a section in the problems' page: "Harassment of women." It began as if you were trying to take away credibility from the protests and complaints. But then, just a few lines before the end, you seemed to have changed directions toward a more reconciliatory tone. Nevertheless, I thought this section contrasts with the rest of your writing and contributions. Cheers. Caballero/Historiador (talk) 08:45, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Caballero. Personally, I never see women being harassed on wikipedia, that's why. In fact I was so sure of myself on one occasion that I put my foot in it and people who had discussed it at a recent conference all turned up to complain. But apparently many women have complained about it so I'll take their word for it ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:49, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for your quick response, Dr. Blofeld. You moved toward a wiser position, I think. Cheers. Caballero/Historiador (talk) 09:05, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks @Caballero1967: for your work too on Puerto Rican topics. The Municipalities of Puerto Rico really need a lot of work the last time I checked and cleanup. A long term goal to get them all to GA status would be good!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:38, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
Greetings with laughter
editThank you for your wishes on top, I will publish on my talk on 24 December ;) - Thank you also for your remark in a GA review, made me think that I desperately need a GA review for a Christmas cantata for DYK, with laughter. Sorry for being late, - I thought I had expanded enough but misread the notice. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:46, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Gerda, have a good one!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:53, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
I would review it but last review I felt that you've lost respect for me which I found uncomfortable. I told myself at the time it's not a good idea reviewing for you, which is sad, as I'd be happy to help you promote them.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:39, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
- Lack of respect is about the worst thing I have been accused of. What is it that made you think so in a review? Can't have Christmas without clarifying that. -For the other question: how can I make the template for a free score an inline citation?I managed for the other two that concerned you. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:12, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
- We don't perceive each other in the way we used to Gerda. The infobox warring and things which have been said has done irreparable damage. We're never going to have the respect and love for each other we once had. I vaguely recall you disagreed with/overlooked most of the things I brought up in the review and you indicated that you thought the article was perfect as it was. I remember thinking, fine, if you're going to be like that I won't bother again.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:34, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
- I am sorry to hear that, but sort of relieved. It seems to be a matter of perception and feelings on your part which I will not be able to change. It would be much worse for me if you would point me to a comment showing lack of respect. Can we agree on the following: If you (or anybody reading here) sees me making a comment that looks disrespectful, please tell me, immediately. I respect you, actually any editor building the encylopedia. Happy 2016, the year of the reader! I never loved you (nor any other editor), but perhaps that's the problem ;) - btw, I found a reviewer for the cantata and won't bother you again. - Thank you for praying for my health, - I loved that. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:06, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
There's two different types of love. There's editors on here I love, but not in that way if you know what I mean. You were one of those people before you got bitten by the infobox bug.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:43, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
- I follow the voice of opera and reason, waiting for you, Precious no. 2 ;) - It's an anniversary, DYK? The last work on the program, composed for the event, was the first I ever sang in choir, 10 years old. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:53, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
- I've just rewritten a load of stuff about Trafalgar Square's Christmas Tree but it would be a miracle to get that on the front page on Christmas Day (it would have to pass GA today and then pass the DYK this evening!) Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:31, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
- Go for the miracle, always! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:53, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
- Mentioned here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Quality Article Improvement/Post, to help a miracle. Christmas hooks in demand! Make the lead image bigger, at least for the season ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:28, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I feel really lazy at the moment. I can't even muster up the willpower to continue with Cary Grant. Perhaps if Jimbo sent a Christmas bonus I might perk up ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:59, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

DYK for Gus Levene
editOn 25 December 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Gus Levene, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", as sung by Frank Sinatra and backed by Gus Levene and his orchestra, was originally recorded for the soundtrack of a 1963 war film? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Gus Levene. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Et tu
edit
I told him you’d been good, made lots of useful edits, did not engage in, but fought against vandalism, were always willing to come to the aid of a friend, were a downright upright editor who had generally made wikipedia a better place in 2015 than you found it in 2014.
He told me he’d keep it in mind.

Thankyou User:Pavanjandhyala, you too!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:22, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- I really hope i can. On the personal front, nothing to cheer about (remember September 2015?). But here, i commence my work on another favourite film of mine. Hope you help me taking it further. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 17:27, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Doctor, i completed my part on Malliswari and have requested a c/e at WP:GOCE/REQ. What do you think of its raw, unfinished form as of now? Pavanjandhyala (talk) 15:23, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- I don't know, just let me know when you think it's ready for GA and I'll review it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:26, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- Sure. I've just completed watching the film again to ensure everything is perfect in the plot summary and listing of the cast. I suggest you too to watch it for my sake, at least as a reviewer before commencing the review. It is one of the best Indian films i've seen and dare i say, it is on par with Mayabazar and Mughal-e-Azam. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 16:44, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- I will try to see it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:34, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

Essay on Encyclopedia problems
editYour essay on Problems coincides with my own experience. I have been discouraged to develop the Moby-Dick article any further precisely because of the kind of discussions you describe in your "Lack of focus" sections. Editors who have nothing to add to the Herman Melville content but merely happen to pass by focus on some minor detail and start discussions that distracts and eventually discourages editors who are willing to spend hours in libraries to extract the best scholarly sources. Instead of developing the section on such important literary categories such as "Structure" and "Themes" I found myself discussing whether the book should be called a novel or not, or a detailed modification of one quotation in the lede, all initiated by editors who have no intention to join the editing process but simply disappear after the isue is dealt with. I finally gave up on the article, but it's nice to see that someone recognizes this problem. Cheers and have a good 2016, MackyBeth (talk) 08:57, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks MackyBeth, yes a lot of people have approached me approving of that essay. Even my harshest critics would agree with some of it I'm sure!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:56, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
