Partai Remaja (PARE)
editPartai Remaja or Abbreviated PARE (Indonesian Youth Party) is a youth organization aimed at increasing political literacy and engagement among Indonesian teenagers.[1] PARE was officially created on 28 December, 2023. PARE is not just a political party that discuss about politics, but also a social and educational movement that instills democratic values, nationalism, and leadership in the younger generation.
This organization was established in response to the lack of political education among Indonesian youth. Amid the complexity of the national political system, teenagers often feel disconnected from politics, perceiving it as something complicated and only relevant to adults or political elites. PARE seeks to break this stigma by providing simple, engaging, and relatable political education for young people.
Background and Reasons
editSocial and Political Context
editIndonesia is a democratic country with a large youth population. Statistics from the year 2022 show that nearly 28% of Indonesians are under the age of 18[2]. However, their participation in elections and other political activities remains relatively low. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of early political education.[3]
PARE was formed as a response to this reality. Its founders recognized that Indonesia’s future heavily depends on a young generation with solid political awareness. Through PARE, teenagers are not only introduced to political concepts but are also encouraged to actively participate in democratic processes and national development.
Vision
edit- Increasing Political Awareness Among Teenagers. Educate and inspire youth to understand political systems, democracy, and their role in national development.
- Creating a Safe Platform for Open Discussions. Establish a healthy, judgment-free environment where teenagers can discuss political and social issues without fear of criticism or humiliation.
- Providing Opportunities for Personal Development. Open pathways for teenagers to develop leadership, public speaking, and organizational skills through active roles and responsibilities within PARE.[5]
Mission
edit- 100 Members by 2026. Aim to recruit and engage 100 active members before 2026 to build a strong youth political movement.
- Endorsing 10 Organisasi Intera Sekolah/Student Council (OSIS) Candidates by 2025. Support and mentor at least 10 members to run for student council president (OSIS) in schools by 2025.
- Providing Resources, Courses, and Training. Offer accessible resources, courses, and training sessions to help members learn about politics, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Building an Open Public Platform. Create a transparent and inclusive public platform where teenagers can express ideas, collaborate, and contribute to meaningful discussions.
- Creating Creative Spaces for All Members. Provide opportunities for all members, from division leaders to regular members, to contribute, innovate, and express their ideas within the organization.
- Opportunities to Hold Public Office. Encourage members to take on leadership roles, debate, and compete for positions within the organization in a fair and democratic manner.[6]
Positive Impacts of PARE on Youth and Society
edit- Enhancing Political Literacy PARE offers teenagers the opportunity to understand political issues that are often considered difficult. They are encouraged to think critically and become more aware of social and political conditions around them.
- Creating an Active and Concerned Generation PARE helps shape a generation that is not apathetic to national issues and is brave enough to voice their opinions. This results in higher youth voter turnout and engagement in political activities.
- Developing Future Leaders PARE trains teenagers to become future leaders with integrity and a commitment to national development. They are prepared to become politicians, activists, or professionals who prioritize the public interest.
- Strengthening Democracy Active youth participation in politics strengthens the foundation of democracy in Indonesia. With proper political understanding, teenagers can become agents of change, advocating for more inclusive and people-centered public policies.
