John Munnoch (23 September 1879 - 28 June 1915) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

His father was Michael Munnoch (born c. 1836), a slater from Stirling.

His mother was Helen Paterson (born c. 1846) from Stirling. Michael and Helen married in 1867 in Stirling.

John Munnoch was born on 23 September 1879 in Stirling.

He never married but he had a fiancee, a Jessie McGregor (1879 - 1951) born in Alexandria of 130 Bridge Street. She was the subject of at least two of his paintings.[7]

Death

He died on 28 June 1915 at Gallipoli in Turkey during the First World War. Munnoch was fighting with the 5th Battalion of Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment).

He commemorated at the family grave in Uphall cemetery.

He is also commemorated at the Helles Memorial near Sedd el Bahr in Turkey.[10]
