James Fullarton Sloane (13 May 1866 - 7 January 1947) was a Scottish painter, draughtsman and footballer.[1][2]

His father was John Fullarton Sloane (12 March 1819 - 1895), an accountant from Peebles.

His mother was Agnes Johnstone (born 8 March 1831), an amateur artist, from Hackney, London, England. She was the daughter of Francis Napier Johnstone of Edinburgh.[7] John and Agnes married in Hackney on 20 October 1853.[8]

James Fullarton Sloane was born in Govan, Glasgow on 13 May 1866.[9][10]

He was a footballer when young, and played for Rangers and Stoke City as a centre forward. Jimmy Sloane

He married Christina Glegg Wood (born c. 1868) from Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, daughter of Robert Wood.[11] They married on 4 April 1895 at the Burnbank United Presbyterian Church in Carrington Street, Woodlands, Glasgow.

His brother Robert Hunter Sloane (1870 - 1941) was also an artist.

Death

He died on 7 January 1847 at 171 Cleveden Road, Glasgow.[12]
