Removal of instruments on first paragraph?
editIs anyone against removing 'bass' for Brandon Flowers and 'rhythm guitar' for Mark Stroemer? The only time I can think of where they play those instruments is on For Reasons Unknown and I'm pretty sure one song doesn't do it. It should stay in the Band members, but it should probably gon when listed in the first paragraph.
Also maybe none of my business but couldn't this talkpage do with some cleanup? Solitude6nv5 (talk) 19:49, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Solitude6nv5 I would not remove instruments as they are played RyanjamesßXcopus (talk) 16:38, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Comments on GA criteria
edit- Pass
- Has an appropriate reference section. SilkTork (talk) 18:56, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Stable. No edit wars, but article suffers from a high level of vandalism and inappropriate edits. Possibly needs semi-protecting. SilkTork (talk) 18:58, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Media has appropriate copyright tags. SilkTork (talk) 19:08, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- No obvious copyvio found. SilkTork (talk) 19:33, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Query
- There are a number of dubious quality images of the band live which may not comply with WP:IMAGE RELEVANCE. There is a media clip which does not have a rationale for use in this article, and it's use here is unclear. SilkTork (talk) 19:08, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Prose is clunky and unhelpful, it doesn't flow. This is possibly a fail. SilkTork (talk) 19:23, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- The Activism and philanthropy section seems a little excessive and promotional, giving undue weight to minor matters. A number of statements are unsourced, such as "While "A Dustland Fairytale" was written as a tribute to frontman Brandon Flowers' parents, his mother had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer", making it difficult to assess neutrality and original research. SilkTork (talk) 04:49, 23 November 2019 (UTC)
- Fail
- Lead. To meet GA criteria 1(b), which relates to specific manual of style guidelines, the article needs to comply with the advice in WP:LEAD. That is, in addition to being an introduction, the lead needs to be an adequate overview of the whole of the article. As a rough guide, each major section in the article should be represented with an appropriate summary in the lead. Also, the article should provide further details on all the things mentioned in the lead. And, the first few sentences should mention the most notable features of the article's subject - the essential facts that every reader should know. SilkTork (talk) 19:13, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Has been tagged as needing citation since January 2019. A number of challengeable statements, such as "In the same month, the band's Tim Burton-directed video for the album's second single, "Bones", won Best Video at the NME Awards", need citation to reliable sources. SilkTork (talk) 19:19, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Broad coverage. The Musical style section does not explain adequately or appropriately the musicianship of the band, what form of music they play, if they are musically original or derivative, what their influences are, or who they have influenced in turn. Are any of the members of the band known for their musical talent? Do any of them have notable or named instruments? SilkTork (talk) 04:53, 23 November 2019 (UTC)
Comments
edit- This was listed as a GA 11 years ago, and it looks like it hasn't been well maintained, so I'm taking a closer look. SilkTork (talk) 18:46, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- Some links, such as the tours, return here. SilkTork (talk) 19:10, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- The "Musical style" section is simply a list. This needs explaining for readers. SilkTork (talk) 19:25, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- The "Official members timeline" appears to be pointless. SilkTork (talk) 19:27, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
On hold
edit- The article was listed as a Good Article 11 years ago, but doesn't meet current GA standards. Mainly, it lacks inline citations to reliable sources, though there are a number of other issues which indicate that the article would benefit from a thorough copyedit and rebuild. The lead in particular needs work, as does the Musical style section. I will notify significant contributors and related projects, and put this on hold for seven days to see what happens. Esprit15d comments
editMy involvement with this article has been sporadic over the years, but I was notified of this nomination. My area of expertise is references, so I'll do what I can to bring them up to speed.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 01:33, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for your contributions Esprit15d, though I'm now having to close this as delist as there has been no work from anyone since Nov 25th, and the article is still tagged as needing sources. SilkTork (talk) 11:24, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
- I completely understand.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 18:51, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
Tours
editLinks to tours redirect back to the main article. On looking into the links they have all been redirected from established and detailed articles on the tours because they are lacking sources. There's a fair deal of useful information that could be saved if people were interested in digging up some reliable sources that talk about those tours:
Here's one of the tour articles that wasn't redirected, with some indication of what sources to look for: Wonderful Wonderful World Tour. SilkTork (talk) 09:04, 29 November 2019 (UTC)
- I have added cites to and restored Battle Born World Tour. SilkTork (talk) 16:40, 29 November 2019 (UTC)
Outdated reference for Rolling Stone's review of Sam's Town
editThe reference should link to an archived version of the review, such as this.

Spelling Correction needed...
editBand touring musician Jake Blanton's name is spelled wrong in the current photo caption (where it says Jake "Stanton"). When the article is no longer locked, would someone please fix it? Thank you!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.39.154.38 (talk • contribs)

Tori Allen is a current touring musician (backup singer) for The Killers. Please add her under the heading "Touring musicians - Current touring musicians". She joined the Killers on their Imploding the Mirage tour in March 2022. In addition to providing backup vocals for the band, she also plays violin and acoustic guitar. - I'm new to this, so please forgive me if I'm not doing this correctly.
- Tori's instagram includes an announcement, followed by countless photos & videos of her on stage and backstage with The Killers.
- Also, she can be clearly seen singing providing backup vocals and playing guitar/violin for The Kilers in videos of their performances so far in 2022.

They changed background singers over the years since 2019, Danielle Withers was replaced by Melissa McMillan, Vanessa Bryan only joined for a short time as a fourth background singer in that year around June to September 2019. By mid-2021, Amanda was replaced by Kristen Rodgers, and lastly in 2022, Kristen was replaced by Tori Allen who also played acoustic guitar and violin. And Danielle didn’t play guitar or violin, it was Tori who did. 2601:40D:4280:EFD0:21CB:F377:7C9B:F075 (talk) 20:11, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

I’m confused. Where’s the evidence that Mark Stoermer left The Killers? If Mark left, it’s most likely The Killers or even Mark made a statement about it, but putting Mark in the past members section without a link providing evidence of Mark’s departure seems completely pointless. 2601:40D:4280:EFD0:81F8:38CF:7EA8:EA1C (talk) 03:23, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- Not done: the article notes when Stoemer left the band (I fixed the grammar in that particular paragraph as well). See The Killers#2020–2021: Pressure Machine and Keuning's return. -- Pinchme123 (talk) 04:03, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- The source in the article contradicts the liner notes of the band's last 3 albums, which all list Flowers, Keuning, Stoermer and Vannucci as members. It was also added by a known sockpuppeteer with a fixation on imagined musical trios and a history of grasping at straws. Any claims they make about who is and is not a member of any band needs serious scrutiny. -- I need a name (talk) 15:25, 10 September 2023 (UTC)

Tori Allen left the band in 2022. Melissa Mcmillan left the band in 2023.
New live backing vocalists are Nicky Egan and Miranda Joan, both joined in 2023. 2A02:C7D:936:4B00:4FE4:479C:B1C2:CCD (talk) 14:48, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
