question on title
editPlease see question at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Color#Why_use_phrase_.22Varitations_of_....22_instead_of_.22Shades_of_....22. --Noleander (talk) 19:46, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
Pink is NOT identical to Tamarisk!
editThat is about as accurate as saying a Ford vehicle is identical to a F-150. Pink is a (vaguely defined) RANGE of colors. Can someone remove the offending phrase from the article?Abitslow (talk) 23:36, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
Ferrari Red
editNo Ferrari red? I believe the color is patented for its unique shade of red... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:14BA:28F5:AB00:9CD:4586:9FA8:6DDC (talk) 22:06, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Blood Red
editAbsolutely no mention from one of the most important colors from human perspective, the color of the oxidized blood? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:14BA:28F5:AB00:9CD:4586:9FA8:6DDC (talk) 22:09, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
- Which is absolutely an oversight on someone's part. Will attempt to fix myself now. KDS4444 (talk) 22:58, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

I don't see any evidence that these colors are discussed in this article and plan to delete them from the list per this discussion: Talk:List_of_colors#New_approach_to_review_of_entries If someone decides that these colors should have a section in this article and it is added, I would appreciate a ping.--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:35, 8 September 2018 (UTC) |
Cornell red
editThe section Cornell_red states that "Displayed at right is the university color Cornell red." That statement has no reference. The infobox with the color attributes does contain a link to the Cornell official page discussing colors. That page makes reference to the color name carnelian, but nowhere calls this color "Cornell red". A brief search using a search engine uncovered no reliable sources referring to such a color (some sites do use the term, but they are generally ones who have copied Wikipedia content.)
I don't plan to edit this article as my current focus is on the color lists articles (e.g. List_of_colors:_A–F). I do plan to remove this entry from that list, but if someone does some research and can can find evidence that this color is commonly called "Cornell red", it can be restored.--S Philbrick(Talk) 17:26, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
24toonenata (talk) 20:43, 15 December 2020 (UTC) why is there an article about the different shades of red? why?
Questionable use of pictures
editThis article's pictures (and I assume most if not all of the other articles depicting colors on Wikipedia) has a fundamental problem. Color displayed depends on the colors that the monitor is capable of displaying as well as the way the software and hardware convert the 3 (usually 3, although there can be anywhere from 1 to 5 or 6 color coordinates (where only a single coordinate is needed for either gray scale OR a color lookup table)). It is misleading to imply, as this article does, that the pictures or the rgb boxed color "is color X". Film and electronic cameras also record colors different from what the real color (at the time) was. It is not at all unusual for a monitor to have a "delta-E" of 3 or 4. For comparison, a delta-E of 1 is a barely perceptible color difference. That is, it is to be expected that the color the reader is seeing is NOT the "true" color. (In fact the human eye can see many more colors than RGB allows.) All articles that claim to depict a specific color SHOULD also carry a Caution that unless the picture uploaded was carefully calibrated, and unless the colors recorded are very close to what RGB can display, and unless the reader's display device is also calibrated, then the color can vary significantly from the actual color.207.155.85.22 (talk) 17:03, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
