Could someone add that she is a "songwriter" in the beginning of the biography? She has writing credits in almost half of her discography and that seems like an appropriate and accurate thing to add. Julioplantain (talk) 07:27, 28 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Julioplantain: Adding it to the lede may require further discussions since Rihanna is not highly regarded as a songwriter (and some editors would object), but I made sure to re-add it to the infobox where its inclusion is totally justified. The article mentions her songwriting, and she currently has 138 songwriting credits. Only problem is, certain editors sometimes remove it from the infobox based on personal feelings. FMSky has days ago removed it from the infobox because they feel it's "disrespectful to the people actually writing her songs."[1] That kind of POV is not encyclopedic at all, and we already went though that when debating whether or not Beyoncé should be presented as a songwriter. Besides, they cannot prove all of Rihanna's 138 credits were stolen, and it's not the first time they make such edits.

@BD2412 and Popcornfud: Would you agree that "disrespectful to the people actually writing her songs" is pure POV? It's like someone claiming Kendrick Lamar is a real songwriter, while Drake is not; Lady Gaga is a real songwriter, while Madonna is not... I'm afraid such personal opinions don't belong on here. • I will put it this way. I see someone like Roy Banks, who played two undistinguished seasons in the NFL in the 1980s, after having been a fifth-round draft pick, and marked no stats, and no one is suggesting that "American football wide receiver" be removed from his description out of respect for "the people actually receiving the ball". • @FMSky: As explained by the admin just above, based on WP:Verifiability, the content of this encyclopedia is based on sourced information (138 songwriting credits, conformation of collaborative songwriting, awards, etc.) rather than one's personal opinion (of the worthiness of the songwriting of an artist, etc.). The lede is for the primary most notable professions, whereas the infobox is for the primary and secondary most known or notable professions. On that note, Rihanna was one of the songwriters nominated for composing the song "Lift Me Up" at the 2022 Golden Globes Awards.[1] That song also won five awards.[2] Israell (talk) 17:05, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Israell: No, actually you would need a source that specifically calls her a "songwriter", anything else is WP:OR --FMSky (talk) 01:00, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Being "disrespectful to people writing the songs" or whatever isn't a valid reason to say she is or isn't a songwriter — but neither is a personal assessment about her work.
We go by reliable sources. If numerous reliable sources describe her as a songwriter then I'd support the inclusion in the infobox, but if not let's leave it out. The infobox should describe main roles. Popcornfud (talk) 12:28, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
In addition to the aforementioned sources, here are more sources referring to Rihanna as a songwriter: [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. Israell (talk) 05:28, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Partners

edit

How come the partners section of the infobox does not mention Drake? He's by far her most relevant partner. 2804:1B3:6B03:E777:7E4B:F14B:7600:F963 (talk) 23:41, 27 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

In the artistry section under influences it states that during childhood Rihanna use to sing Whitney Houston songs and Houston's song "I Will Always Love You" made her develop a passion for music, but it doesn't state how Whitney Houston influenced her like it states Madonna and Mariah Carey influenced her, it just states that she use to sing Whitney Houston songs I wanted to add that Rihanna was also inspired by Whitney Houston as well and also add that Houston's song "I Will Always Love You" influenced her to do music as with citations. Genres

edit

Rihanna is and always has been a pop artist besides an R&B artist, so the music genres in the infobox should be either "Pop, dance, and R&B" or "Pop, R&B, and dance", not "R&B, pop, and dance", even AllMusic confirms she's a pop artist: https://www.allmusic.com/artist/rihanna-mn0000367188 AndrewTheWikiEditor (talk) 22:44, 20 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

AllMusic also states she does EDM and dancehall but you conveniently forgot to mention that didn’t you? There all all other genres that are sourced throughout her page such as hip hop, dubstep, and reggae why didn’t you mention them too? 78.190.123.200 (talk) 09:49, 21 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

CFDA Award

edit

@Greywalls what's the issue? A 3 second Google will reveal plenty of significant coverage in reliable sources about Rihanna's award by the CFDA, in addition to what was already included in the article:

RachelTensions (talk) 16:06, 28 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Also, the Hollywood Reporter article that was cited is by-lined and a green reliable source at WP:RS/P. No indication it is a churned press release. Just because they attributed the announcement that she was receiving the award to the CFDA doesn't make it churnalism... who else would announce she was receiving the award if not for the organization that was awarding it? Question about style

edit

Should the lead of the page say "The Right Excellent Robyn Rihanna Fenty"? I don't know what the typical rules for styles of address like this are. I do know that the David Attenborough page uses his title of "Sir", so should we follow that example? Di (they-them) (talk) 02:02, 22 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
