Walking off the field
editThe season he walked off the field isn't specified. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.83.225.219 (talk) 19:40, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

A short mention could be added about his high school career - and coincidental association with the basketball player Jason Williams in High School. Jason Williams (who won an NBA championship with the Miami Heat) was Randy Moss' 8th and 9th grade quarterback. They also teamed together in high school on a very good basketball team. http://www.jockbio.com/Bios/Moss/Moss_bio.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by Svaihingen (talk • contribs) 22:45, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Basketball
editAny thought on including his short-lived stint as a basketball player? I can't recall which team, or which league he tried out for, but I do remember him playing in a game or two in the past 5 years.
- Yeah, I came on here in a vain attempt to prove he played for an independent team, I think the Atlantic City Surf.

Packers and Moss
editWhat do you think about including the information on the 2007 possible trade to the Packers that did not happen, and Brett Favre's subsequent comments? I can see that this article is first and foremost about Moss and not Green Bay, but I think those quotes show Moss's standing with the rest of the league, even after his relatively unproductive years in Oakland. This information was removed, but reinstated so we could discuss it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Snowfire51 (talk • contribs) 23:15, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
No it's not supposed to be there, this article is about RANDY MOSS, not the Green Bay Packers. you've got to be kidding c'mon And by the way if it's being discussed on the talk page it shouldn't be in the article in the first place!! You could put it in the Green Bay Packers article if you want, it doesn't belong here.
- The reference is about Moss, and Favre's reaction to the Packers non-trade shows that even after pseudo-mooning the Green Bay crowd and having a subpar year in Oakland, one of the NFL's most respected quarterbacks still wanted to play with him. Snowfire51 02:49, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Doesn't mean jack nobody cares about what Favre thinks in an article about Moss and this is not the place to discuss what could've been for the cheese. and quit lying, Moss wouldn't restructure for the Pack only for the Patriots. you're making stuff up on the spot ESPN reported he would only restructure for the PATS a superbowl contender not the cheeseheads. (http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=598535&format=print) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.117.144.189 (talk) 03:31, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- I rewrote the paragraph to take out some of the Packers info, and make it more about Moss and the respect Favre had for his skills. However, I see you've already thrown out the edit before discussing it. Please discuss things on an article's talk pages civilly before throwing out other peoples work. Thanks! Snowfire51 03:34, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
"(http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=598535&format=print) "The Packers were in the running for Moss' services, but it appears Moss was more interested in playing for an established winner than taking his chances with the Packers.
ESPN reported that Moss was willing to restructure his contract only for the Patriots, and that any other team would have had to pay him his full $9.75 million this year. In a conference call with New England writers, Moss said that wasn't necessarily true but he made it clear the Patriots had more to offer." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.117.144.189 (talk) 03:35, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- Please be civil. You threw this out before giving any referencs. The article states ESPN reported it, but does not state it is true. Moss didn't say that, and the article clearly says Packers GM Ted Thompson didn't say it either. Snowfire51 03:41, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
So you admit you don't know, and you have no idea either, then why are you posting stuff such as "moss would've restructured to play for the Pack". I didn't hear a single credible source say this, Pack are not a superbowl contender in the first place. You wrote this:
"In spite of Moss's two subpar years with Oakland, Moss's skills were still highly prized. Packer QB Brett Favre criticized his organization for their decision regarding Moss's contract, thinking that by acquring a player of Randy Moss's skill, it would give Green Bay a better chance at winning a championship. It was rumored Green Bay's decision to not give Moss a guaranteed contract led to favre requesting a trade from the team, but later Favre denied it."
Then you claim you, "rewrote the paragraph to take out some of the Packers info". So this info is on Moss?? I don't think so, it's Packer info and Brett Favre's feelings.
- I never said "Moss would have restructured". The original paragraph was referenced. I rewrote that paragraph to try and make it more about Moss and less about the Packers, as you suggested.Snowfire51 03:54, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
""In spite of Moss's two subpar years with Oakland, Moss's skills were still highly prized. Packer QB Brett Favre criticized his organization for their decision regarding Moss's contract, thinking that by acquring a player of Randy Moss's skill, it would give Green Bay a better chance at winning a championship. It was rumored Green Bay's decision to not give Moss a guaranteed contract led to favre requesting a trade from the team, but later Favre denied it."
the only sentence I see there specifically about Moss and not Favre or the Packers is the very first one, and even that is a POV. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.117.144.189 (talk) 03:59, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
"There were rumors during the 2007 NFL Draft that the Patriots and the Green Bay Packers were the two teams most interested in acquiring Moss."
I will add that, i think the packers can be put like that. But a paragraph like this: "In spite of Moss's two subpar years with Oakland, Moss's skills were still highly prized. Packer QB Brett Favre criticized his organization for their decision regarding Moss's contract, thinking that by acquring a player of Randy Moss's skill, it would give Green Bay a better chance at winning a championship. It was rumored Green Bay's decision to not give Moss a guaranteed contract led to favre requesting a trade from the team, but later Favre denied it." Is fit more for the Brett Favre article. the info is great for the Brett Favre article, not this one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.117.144.189 (talk) 04:20, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
According to his article, Eric Moss was on the Vikings the season before they drafted Randy... is there any evidence that the fact that his brother was on the team was a factor in the Vikings selecting Moss? —Preceding unsigned comment added by MichiganCharms (talk • contribs) 06:21, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

His interception
editPlease add that on October 11th against the Denver Broncos, Randy Moss got his first career interception off of Kyle Orton. Bill Belichick occasionally uses wide receivers as defensive backs, and that he put Moss in on an end-of-half hail mary, which Randy intercepted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.176.13.59 (talk) 05:21, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

editUnder the lack of effort section, please get rid of the sentence that says:
Moss made similar comments during his tenure with the Vikings, when he infamously proclaimed, "I play when I want to play"
The "I play when I want to play" quote is nothing similar to the quote it is being compared to:
"I might want to look forward to moving somewhere else next year to have another start and really feel good about going out here and playing football."
These quotes have nothing in common. "I play when I want to play" refers to him being the only one that gets himself pumped up for games, not effort or happiness with his situation.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_online/news/2002/09/25/flashback_moss/
Perhaps it's not surprising that Moss's initial "I play when I want to play" statement came in response to this question from Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune columnist Sid Hartman: Does Cris Carter get you fired up? Though this is a case where an athlete might rightfully have claimed that his quote was deprived of its full context, Moss declined to do so two weeks later during a conference call with writers who cover the Tennessee Titans, saying, "Hell, no. That s--- is what I said." Says McCombs, "I had told him, 'You need to tell those guys you made a mistake.' But he's got so much of that street macho that he couldn't bring himself to do it."

editThe trade has not been confirmed by either team, Randy Moss is still a member of the New England Patriots, until said confirmation is brought forth by the Patriots and Vikings. - Moss IS a free agent. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/How-Randy-Moss-quitting-on-a-play-indirectly-led?urn=nfl-281576 And its very possible that he was released AFTER the waiver. I'm changing it. --έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 22:59, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
- First of all, that article is from this morning, hours before the waiver was sent out. Second of all, after July 4 and before the season ends, you can't just release a player without placing him on waivers. It's now becoming increasingly clear that Childress acted alone in "cutting" Moss, though he has no formal authority to make actual roster moves. If you would keep apprised of the situation, you'd have read articles like these:
- It's not a huge deal, it just might be a little embarrassing if indeed Childress is let go in Moss's stead, while all the while his Wikipedia article has incorrectly reported against what professional sports journalism has actually confirmed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.101.186.97 (talk) 23:29, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
- I went ahead and reverted it back to where it says Moss is a Vikings. Change it to anything else when it's officially done. oncamera(t) 23:36, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
My mistake earlier, the reports indicated at the time that Moss had officially been released and would in fact appear on today's waiver wire. This has obviously not happened. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.216.200.145 (talk) 23:38, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
In general, can we stop calling players on the waiver wire "free agents"? Every time someone is waived, his article is updated to show him as a free agent before he clears waivers. Bhirsch (talk) 02:34, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Randy Moss has been let go from the Minnesota Vikings as of Monday night, Nov 1st, 2010. Moss was with the Vikings for only four games. He still has a $3.8 million contract with the Vikings and will still collect $375,000 a week because the Vikings broke the contract. Moss will most likely be sought by the New England Patriots or the NY Jets. When Moss was asked where he wants to play he said "I want to play with my old Teammates, The Patriots, and catch passes from Tom Brady". Randy Moss and Tom Brady became good friends quickly when Moss was picked by the Patriots in 2006. Moss and Brady are the same age (33) and in 2007 Moss made NFL history by receiving 23 touchdown passes in one season. Those passes were made by Tom Brady.
Zenagin (talk) 09:40, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
- This is incorrect, Randy Moss has not yet been waived by the Minnesota Vikings and is still on the Vikings' roster. Stats from the NFL Combine
editThe page gives his vertical in the 1998 NFL combine as 47 inches, based on an article that doesn't provide any citation, but the NFL combine results website says it was only 33 inches: https://nflcombineresults.com/playerpage.php?f=Randy&l=Moss&i=27002. Should this be fixed? 2620:15C:183:204:B92A:83EE:8285:CB83 (talk) 22:08, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
