Talk:Neon Genesis Evangelion (live-action movie)

Official Announcement Regarding Evangelion Film

edit

There is now an official announcement about the structure of the film, as well as the director - Kazuya Tsurumaki - and the role of GAINAX, Khara, ADV, Weta, and, of course, Hideaki Anno himself. From this point on, this article is no longer speculation but a conveying of the actual official fact.

...Sweet Asuka, I am so excited about this movie. User:AsukaSeagull

You seem to be getting confused with the new Evangelion Shin Gekijou Ban movies, which are an entirely different thing from ELAM. They are animated, are being made by Studio Gainax, and have nothing to do with ELAM whatsoever. See this link on Eva Monkey's news page. I am reverting from the confusing new edits back to the old version with correct information. --ACynicalPie 06:06, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
...well, obviously no one's bothering to read what I said. Again - there is now an OFFICIAL announcement about this movie, so speculation needs to be kept to a minimum - or, you know, it should be really non-existant, unless really well sourced. User:AsukaSeagull

...Um, some of this is just plain WRONG... Let me set some things straight. What has just been announced are 4 new ANIMATED films, the Rebuild of Evangelion. This has nothing to do with the live action project. The director, company, and casting details here are incorrect. Sorry.

Yeah...this is something that's gonna be a problem here - I got this, too - it appears that ADV is suspending the movie project indefinately and the animated films are coming in their place. Sad. Ah, well. User:AsukaSeagull
No, ADV have always planned their movie for between late 2008 and 2015. Of course, that's assuming the movie will eventually be made, which is still uncertain at that time (ADV has reported some problems to raise funds and to catch the interest of other sponsor companies). But the movie project has not yet been cancelled nor suspended - it was always clear from the beginning that it would not actually be shot before several years.

Heh, that is pretty late. Having your anime mevie of the future happen in the year that the show is set is gonna be really annoying to some people. Imagine having to wait for 3001: 74.96.212.21 03:29, 8 October 2006 (UTC)The Final Odyssey!Reply

Rebuild of Evangelion is a project that has really NOTHING to do with ADV's movie. Rebuild is an animated series of 4 movies, made by Gainax in Japan. It doesn't "come in the place" of ADV's movie, because the 2 projects are completely unrelated. Folken de Fanel 12:29, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Asuka Concept

edit

The Asuka concept image has been removed. The face was edited by someone at some point. It doesn't conform to imagery on either of the DC DVDs. Nor does it resemble any of the art on WETA's site.

As somebody nearby the going ons of Weta Workshop and Park Road Post, it would seem as though Korean funding may have recently been secured for this along with the upcoming Black Sheep. - Chris

What DVD's?

edit

The two "Director's Cut" DVDs released in 2004 feature pre-production stills created by the Weta Workshop, the company behind the special effects used in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.-- The Director's Cut DVD's of what, exactly?--MythicFox 09:20, 17 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ressurection and Genesis Reborn contained the special video versions of episodes 21-24, denoted 21'-24', similar to 25'/Air, and 26'/My Purest Heart for You. Episodes 25-26 were included on Genesis Reborn, but they were not in fact special in any way, it was merely a way of stretching the director's cuts onto two dvds, in order to profit more from them.--Theevamonkey 05:22, 6 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

A-6 treatment

edit

A-6 treatment? That section title suggests that that treatment actually exists. Actual treatments might exist, but we don't know anything yet about their contents. If I understand correctly A-6 is just a conventient name for a set of fan speculation / fan fiction. --GunnarRene 14:11, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Slug names?

edit

From "Racial disagreements":

Not long after Grant's statements, fuel was added to the fire when concept art produced by Weta Workshop was released featuring character slug name such as "Kate Rose" (in lieu of Asuka Langley), "Ray" (Rei Ayanami), and "Susan Whitnall" (Misato Katsuragi).

What on earth is a "slug name"? Sum0 22:18, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Those are names given to the characters just for the sake of reference in production (in other words, "placeholder" names). It doesn't necessarily mean that's what they'll be called in the finalized production. Tony Myers 02:42, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Title

edit

Should this article be moved to "Neon Genesis Evangelion (live-action movie)" to fit in with the nomenclature of articles for movie adaptations on Wikipedia? Tony Myers 02:46, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think that's not a bad idea. It's probably going to be called NGE anyway, and it is more informative than 'Untitled Evangelion Project' (which is true but not very helpful). --Gwern (contribs) 21:52 18 June 2007 (GMT)
I also think that is a good idea.Prede 05:30, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

This project is dead for sure

edit

I don't know if the "Future-Class" category in wikipedia includes talking about paralel universes, but with new evangelion animation coming this year, and after at least 3 years without having any progress, is sure they will not do any live action evangelion, ever. period. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 189.144.123.60 (talk) 04:13, 7 April 2007 (UTC).Reply

They're waiting on a director's schedule to clear up. Yes, it is in development hell....because its a huge project. If anything, Rebuild will generate new interest. Have faith. --Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici 07:15, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
They are working on it. Just give it time. My eyes see all 21:24, 18 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's not hard to be pessimistic. Many awesome past film projects have begun promisingly, hit a few little snags, and then begun a positive feedback cycle of failure begetting failure. --Gwern (contribs) 21:53 18 June 2007 (GMT)
I'm glad this thing is dead. All live action adaptations of animated shows suck, and this movie would be an affort to greatness that is Evangelion. Just put this horribly deformed bad idea die a merciful death. (67.81.84.210 03:58, 6 July 2007 (UTC))Reply

It's not dead. ATM it is still on. They are waiting for a director. everyone knows hollywood directors' schedules are hell. Prede 05:28, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Did The Live Action Adaption of Lord of the Rings suck? Seeing it Was First was a Book then It became animated movie then into a Real Live Adaption which generated a lot of money in the box office. Also Wetawork Shop (who is working on this film also) who worked on Lord of the Rings and King Kong knows how to make a movie look good especially one as big as this (Seeing they get 20x More email about it than LotR) . I Know the Film will not be turned down when a Director does finally have time. Seeing How big of a hit the Shows where and the Animated movies are planing to make this film is still possible. --Mithos90 16:46, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think it is worth noting that people are now stating the cancellation of this project (by ADV) as an official fact. The statement has been undone a few times now, because the cited source seems to contain no information (or a link to information) concerning this alleged cancellation. If anyone is going to continously vandlise this article as such, I expect valid sources to be presented. This does not include a site map or a claim that it was "in their [ADV's] newsletter". Standards at Wikipedia exist-- please follow them. Thank you.Reneighd 18:13, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

THANK YOU!!! I'm trying to get in contact with one of the principal contributors at EvaCommentary.org to confirm or debunk this, but right now I'm watching an interview with Matt Greenfield on YouTube and he's said that the movie will happen, but there's no telling when.[1] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Willbyr (talkcontribs) 01:00, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Verily: Some people have been demanding that this page be merged because it doesn't cite NEW sources that the project is still on; no, its "in development", they've officially said they are trying to make it, and ***YOU have to provide "sources" that its "cancelled"! You cannot then turn around and say "well, everyone's saying its been cancelled"...WHO IS "EVERYONE"?! --Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici (talk) 20:43, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Richard Taylor has recently stated (on April 2008) that the film is still in the works. If it wasn't would he have mentioned it, no. This is not to be used as a "source" , but rather just some proof that the movie has not been cancled. Until ADV makes an official announcement, the article should remain. Hopefully they will make an announcement about how the film is progressing. As of now however, it is still in "Dev. Hell" . Youtube Video - http://youtube.com/watch?v=syDws-bNaH0 (Once again please don't use it as a source, it is just proof they have yet to cancle the movie. If they do cancle it they will let us know, otherise it will be made a movie, duh) - Prede (talk) 03:33, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merge

edit

Per the notability guidelines for films, all verifiable content about this project should be placed in the article of the source material, Neon Genesis Evangelion. The guideline stipulates that production must have begun to warrant its own article, and there does not seem to be any indication here that this is happening. My suggestion is to create a "Film" subsection under "Other media" at the source material's article. When production begins, then the article can be re-created. The issue here is that there's no telling when or if this will happen; even the new Superman film took 20 years to reach the big screen. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 16:49, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

If it has to be merged anywhere, I'd say merge it into the NGE media article. The main article is already over the "size limit"; adding more to it won't help any. Willbyr (talk | contribs) 17:04, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Was to about to post up the Same thing List of Neon Genesis Evangelion media --Mithos90 17:09, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok, List of Neon Genesis Evangelion media seems appropriate, then. This article and Untitled Evangelion Project can be redirected to the specific section there. I'm not familiar with this project, but I would suggest cleaning up the article in line with the five pillars before the merge takes place. It seems a little bit messy at the moment. If any interested editors have questions about how to do this, let me know. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 17:10, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

In a sense, production did "begin" as Weta Workshop keeps trying to do pre-production work on it, I cite Weta's adamant refusal to remove their Eva concept art gallery from their official website. It stays. --Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici (talk) 22:20, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pre-production is not the same thing as actual production. There is no guarantee of a full-blown plot section, a cast section, a production section, and a production section. Per the notability guidelines for future films, it doesn't stay. However, per the future films department's process, you are welcome to treat it to its own section under a broader article. See Jurassic Park IV, Spider-Man 4, Shantaram (film), Logan's Run (2010 film), and Fahrenheit 451 (2009 film) as just a few examples of such merges. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 22:32, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I see. Well then, my only choice is. --Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici (talk) 01:08, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Email

edit

I do not think the part about the email belongs under the "Tekkoshocon 2006 panel" heading. Either a new heading should be made about "email from____(whoever)" or something. It kind of looks wrong the way it is now. The email part is "Weta Workshop customer service manager Darren Reddiex stated "Currently this project hasn't been greenlit. We ourselves are very hopeful the project will go ahead as, given the opportunity, we'd love to continue working on it ourselves." when responding to a fan's email. Jieho Lee possible director?

edit

I found this news blurb on scifi.com. Of course it's pure speculation, but I haven't heard of any other popular animes being made into live actions projects, and the high level of secrecy would fit the NGE production.

Here's the link to the news blurb: http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0&id=47595 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.190.109.108 (talk) 10:44, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Past Project

edit

I went to the weta website and evangelion is in the past works category. Does it mean that they are not going to be doing it after all? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.66.218.140 (talk) 15:58, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

As of now it is still being made. There has been no official announcement yet of a cancellation. With $120 million USD at stake, I don't think they can cancle productions now. The time for cancleing this movie is passed (unless they want to lose money). - Prede (talk) 21:21, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

new century?

edit

Some speculation shows that some japanese names may be change. If that's true than there maybe a change in the title, NEON GENESIS= NEW CENTURY. What do you think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.182.79.237 (talk) 19:46, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

You streched the page, so I fixed it, hope you don't mind. I haven't heard anything like that, but as of now, not much info has been released. That could very well be true, or just a false rumur. I don't think they would change the name, but you never know. As for what to do with this article, keep the name like this unless there is any announcement from ADV or a reliable source. Also no need to mention this on the main page, sense it is here, unless it get announced of course, then there should be a section about it (but I doubt they would change the name for the live acion movie) - Prede (talk) 02:08, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Previews on YouTube?

edit

[2]

Are any of these relevant to the actual film? (if not, they are really good for fan videos!) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.1.61.217 (talk) 03:33, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nope, I am 99% sure they are all fan made. They are all great, but fan made. Sense a director has not even been picked yet, and filming hasn't even started it would be pretty hard to have a trailor out already. - Prede (talk) 07:04, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Trimming Article

edit

I was the one who recently went through the Live Action Evangelion Project page to try and clean it up to Wikipedia standards (as it was marked). I see that the page has been reverted to its former self, with the edits that I made included along with all the material that I originally removed. The reason I did remove so many parts of the article is that it merely lengthened an article that honestly does not have much known information. It is best to keep what we do know concise and clear for those who only want a short overview of the project as is, if not to be ready for when the project is eventually greenlit and we have more information to add (what we have now will eventually then have to fit in a section dealing with the project's history).

I propose that, with my rewritings standing, the "Tekkoshocon 2006 Panel" and "Story" sections are at best repetitive and at worst superfluous. Even the sections on "Cast" and the "Actor Ethnicity" controversy, I think, can be better integrated into the article.

I'll leave my comments here and let you come to your own decisions. Good luck Ode2joy (talk) 02:25, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm the one who put that info back up there. I am pretty sure we all felt/feel (when we made that part) that the "Tekkoshocon 2006 Panel" part was to be left up here, until more information about the movie becomes availble, and that is when we would remove it. Once more pre-production info gets released and the movie comes out of "development hell" then we can take that down. Of course if that is not what everyone else wants...then we can take it down. As of now I feel it is best to have that here, sense there is not much else about the movie on this page. It's not like we "have to make space" for the info, we can delete that whole section when information is released, not before, sense it could be months/years before more info is even released. And as for the "story" part, I don't care really what happens with that. It is just a pre-curser to info about the story when the movie comes out (plot/characters/themes etc.). Also the page seemed rather empty without the "Tekkoshocon 2006 Panel" section. - Prede (talk) 03:55, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Writers

edit

Source this new section please? Otherise it could be deleted. I haven't heard this info yet. If it's not sourced it is considered a rumur. - Prede (talk) 05:42, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I tryed to source it, can't find anything remotly close about the writers for this movie, if their names have even been released yet. The names listed don't seem to be related at all to this project. These are probally just rumurs. Unless this section is sourced, do not re-add it. Of course if you source it please place it up!! It only can help wikipedia! - Prede (talk) 05:50, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

If the movie ever gets made

edit

In the event a live-action film ends up getting made, I will be sure to merge this with the talk page of the article, as it shows historical discussions saround the topic. It would probably be retitled to match the hypothetical article, most likely gonna be called Neon Genesis Evangelion (film), Evangelion (film), or whatever it ends up as.
