new Article
editI have added the Australian city info box and cleaned up the introduction. I have spent considerable time on the Gold Coast article and I have every intention of creating this article on Logan similar standard. Please feel free to post your comments here. DB 12:13, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
The logo...
editCurrently Image:Logan_city_council_logo.jpg has been tagged for deletion because of its alleged fair use nature and the mere fact it's orphaned. There are so many logos used with justification on Wikipeida, I'm wondering why this one was singled out. Peter1968 10:08, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- It wasn't singled out; a bot tagged it during routine checks. It's just one of the rules - things can't be on Wikipedia under claims of fair use when they aren't actually being used anywhere. If you want to save the logo, add it to the article, then remove the orphaned tag from the image page. If you can't find a use for it in this article, then it is appropriate that it be deleted. Hesperian 11:26, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- It was part of this article once upon a time. It was removed from it and you (Hesperian) actually edited the picture at some time. Oh well, too bad, so sad. If someone thinks it needs to be deleted, then delete it. Peter1968 22:57, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Article Title
editCan I suggest that this article be renamed "Logan, Queensland", rather than "Logan City Council". No other city in Queensland includes "City Council" in the Wikipedia title. Also, I would suggest that the term "Logan" not "Logan City" be used throughout the article for a comparable reason.
I am not sure how to add a citation, but I have found a good source for Logan's population: http://www.oesr.qld.gov.au/queensland-by-theme/demography/population/tables/erp/erp-qld-cities/index.shtml (cites Australian Bureau of Statistics as its source). I changed the population in the article to the predicted 2006 population.
This source can be used as a citation for "Queensland's third largest city": http://www.totaltravel.com.au/travel/qld/brisbanearea/southernbrisbanelogancity/guide/logan-ci--Clancycol 21:14, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- The Logan, Queensland format is for cities and towns. The Logan City Council format is for local government areas. In this case, there is no such town called "Logan" in Queensland, but there is an LGA named "Logan City Council". Hesperian 23:49, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Logan, Queensland is a city. See: http://www.oesr.qld.gov.au/queensland-by-theme/demography/population/tables/erp/erp-qld-cities/index.shtml which lists Logan as a city in Queensland (cites: Australian Bureau of Statistics).--Clancycol 10:42, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- The ultimate authority on Australian place names is the Gazetteer of Australia. It is online here. A search for places named "Logan" in Queensland yields this. Hesperian 12:09, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- The cited link is actually not to "cities" but to LGAs - it is a straight copy off the ABS website. I live in the City of Stirling in WA, which is definitely not a "city" in any sense other than that it includes nearly 200,000 people within a set of arbitrarily drawn boundaries - but on this site it says "Stirling (C)" the same way. Agreed with Hesperian here, there is no place called Logan per se (its centre is in a named suburb). In other parts of Australia (and even Queensland) the correct term would be "City of Logan", but it seems this name is only used by state government entities and some contractors - the council's own page and other sources use "Logan City Council" to refer to both the area and its governing body. Orderinchaos 13:22, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, they do the same thing in South Australia. It is very strange to those of us who are used to the opposite. In W.A. there is a tendency to go the other way e.g. the Albany City Council now refers to itself as the "City of Albany" (a registered trademark even!) wherever possible. But I digress.... Uncited info
editI am proposing to remove uncited info from Feb 2007 in socioeconomics unless anyone can find the correct citations. does not seem reliable as it stands. Michellecrisp 08:02, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- I would support this - most of it is clearly WP:OR. Orderinchaos 13:28, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Population
editI have amended the population figure to match the latest ABS figure (Estimated Resident Population at 30 June 2007, Logan = 180,358). The source url is: http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/[email protected]/Latestproducts/3218.0Main Features72006-07?opendocument&tabname=Summary&prodno=3218.0&issue=2006-07&num=&view=. The article title is: 3218.0 - Regional Population Growth, Australia, 2006-07 (released 31/03/2008). Could someone amend the source for this because I could not figure out how. --Clancycol (talk) 18:35, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- My mistake, since the amalgamation in March 2008 with parts of the Gold Coast and northern Beaudesert Shire, Logan now has a population of 261,000 according to the Logan City Council web site, http://www.logan.qld.gov.au/LCC/logan/profile/quickfacts.htm --Clancycol (talk) 18:48, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
big tidy up required.
editSeems there is contention with the name. Logan City (Logan, Queensland) and Logan City Council need to be differentiated. One for Logan, Queensland itself, and one for the organisation known as Logan City Council.
Also, the LGA shifts have occurred and are for now stable, so this should be reflected in the article (ie, group all the suburbs, towns and localities together now)
I'm happy to help out where required. --smadge1 (talk) 02:17, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- Not quite sure what you mean that they need to be differentiated - there is no actual place called Logan, it has only a legal existence as the area managed by the Logan City Council. The council would be at best a few lines and would risk attracting considerable cruft as has happened when we've tried to effect such a separation in other places around Australia. The main problem with implementing the other suggestion is that for 30 of its 31 years it had radically different boundaries to the present, so it is important to have somewhere that when referring to Logan historically we mean the smaller area with these suburbs, but for the last 9 months we mean these suburbs also. Orderinchaos 05:42, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, I'm from the other side of Brisbane, so it's great to get feedback from locals, or people who know the area well. I guess we could give mention to the pre-2008 Logan council area. But the primary article should be current and up-to-date I wasn't aware that there wasn't a Logan City (oops).
- I think it should follow the same template as surrounding LGAs --smadge1 (talk) 23:16, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm actually from Perth, although curiously I actually studied the Queensland LGA system (I've even read the original Divisional Boards Act 1879 and hope when I have more time to get that and the original list of 74 onto Wikisource). Logan's unusual in that it and Banana are the only councils in Queensland affected in this particular way by the changes in 2008. Another "one day" is to finish documenting all the former LGAs which ceased to exist earlier this year - I got well into them when work and other things intervened and when I came back, there was a WA election on and various other things which have occupied my Wiki-attention since. Orderinchaos 03:03, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

needs a socioeconomic section
editThis article seems to completely ignore the socio-economic challenges that Logan is facing. It reads like a tourist brochure. This is supposed to be an encyclopedia. A trip to Logan will immediately demonstrate the issues at hand. Booksacool1 (talk) 10:44, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
- Socio-economic challenges is a broad statement. Could you be more specific? We also use commas for large numbers. A time period is needed to clarify how often "Per machine, each pokie pays out $5886". A bare url is inadequate for a reference. - Shiftchange (talk) 11:22, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
- Only some sections of Logan have socio-economic challenges. I doubt the residents of Windaroo, Tanah Merah, Logan Village or Cornubia are out begging. Orderinchaos 21:26, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
Which Queensland settlement has had Google successfully remove images of an old riot?
editSee http://www.couriermail.com.au/questnews/logan/which-queensland-settlement-has-had-google-successfully-remove-images-of-an-old-riot/story-fni9r0nh-1227036164706?nk=be52b5a827e809cc35c627231bbd075a. Interesting, but probably not very encyclopedic.--220 of Borg 06:48, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

Logan City → City of Logan – Logan City Council has adopted the name of the 'City of Logan' which encompasses the entire local government area. We therefore request the page name to be changed to reflect this from 'Logan City' to the 'City of Logan'. Logancc (talk) 23:50, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- Logancc, can you say who You are in the context of "We".
- http://www.logan.qld.gov.au/ , the link page for the article, has the header Logan City.
- "Logan City" gets "About 462,000 results"
- "city of Logan" gets "About 244,000 results"
- If you want official name to apply you need to give support.
- Gregkaye (talk) 05:42, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose – WP names article by what things are commonly called, not by the whim of various official bodies. See WP:CRITERIA. Dicklyon (talk) 04:48, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose per argument from Dicklyon. I live in Logan, and this is all news to me. Hardly going to be a popular widespread change in the city so we don't need to promote it. --Dmol (talk) 05:48, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
- I noticed that the Lead and the infobox has been edited by the proposer of the move to a point where Logan City it no longer even mentioned. I think that should be changed or at the very least the old name Logan City should be included in some form.--69.157.252.247 (talk) 22:47, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
- Comment - to the nominator, where is the evidence of this name change? The website still refers to Logan City. I would obviously support a move if it can be proved the name change actually took place. Frickeg (talk) 21:09, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

New logo for Logan City Council / City of Logan
editThe Logan City Council looks like it has a new logo and name. The Entity name is still the Logan City Council but they will be called now the City of Logan and the trading or the entity names might go down the same path as the Council of the City of Gold Coast (the entity name is still the Gold Coast City Council or GCCC for short.) Once someone can get a fair use image of the new logo, Can they update the logo on the article? They are still using the old logo on some of their sites since the change happened roughly mid to late December 2020 so there is no rush. Thanks. GCunknown (talk) 16:18, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
