- importance = : predicated upon Smith (surname), the parent article, having 'importance = top' --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 17:05, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Will Smith is listed under "Common combinations of given name and surname "Smith"" and "Notable individuals with less common first names" - I don't know which it is but I doubt it's both. 81.129.238.81 (talk) 16:08, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Would it be more appropriate to change this to "Notable people with the surname Smith"? Troubleshooter 03:42, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
One would think so, yes. This just isn't sure what it wants to be. Several of the people listed here are not at all famous, though notable insofar as they meeting Wikipedia's guidelines for notability. But one can be notable without being famous. Additionally several of the links are just to further disambig pages, making it all the more confusing. Is this a page of famous people only? If so, we need to raise the bar of fame and eliminate the links to disambig pages. If not, this page is rather pointless, as we already have three full pages linking to everyone named Smith. But what would the threshhold of fame be? I personally am a fan of Skyrocket Smith but is he really famous? In what way is he more deserving of note on this page than hundreds of other long-dead ballplayers named Smith? Is there any point at all to having a page on Wikipedia of "famous" Smiths in addition to the list of all Smiths, and if so how are we to define 'famous?' I have a headache. I'm going to go lie down and stop thinking about famous Smiths.Thehappysmith 17:35, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Requested move
editFamous people with the surname Smith → To be decided — From WP:MOSDAB#Given names or surnames "For longer lists, create a new Title (name), Title (surname) and/or Title (given name) page." Also the word "famous" should be avoided in article names as it is subjective. Not all notable people are famous. There is a related discussion at Talk:Famous people with the surname Smyth. —Saikokira 20:32, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- So, this would move to Smith (surname)? That sounded logical to me, but there's already an article at this location, and it looks encyclopedic and well named. It doesn't seem good to move it, and they're too large to want to merge. Hmmm. Andrewa 02:32, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

- I've started a chronological User:Sparafucil/Sandbox/Musicians_named_Smith; even this is getting a bit unmanageable... Sparafucil (talk) 20:12, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
