Proposed move to 'Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts'
editI propose that 'Lincoln Center for Performing Arts' be renamed and moved to 'Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts' to reflect its official name per http://www.lincolncenter.org/. LeRoi 14:19, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- Good idea; I have no objections.

Architecture
editI recall learning that the overall plan for Lincoln Center was derived from Michelangleo's plan for Capitoline Hill in Rome. If anyone information on this, I believe that it would add to the value of this page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jaedglass (talk • contribs) 04:03, 11 May 2007 (UTC).
Why remove reference to a book about the Center??

"Neutrality Disputed"
editWhat is the neutrality dispute concerning Church of St. Ignatius Loyola being affiliated to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts? I don't quite understand what about that section may comprise the guideline for "neutral point of view."
- Lincoln Center, as originally conceived, usually refers to the theaters, library and other facilities originally built in the 60's (as well as the recently built Jazz facilities). However, the Lincoln Center Festival and Great Performers series, as part of Lincoln Center Inc., often perform in these alternative venues (inc. Lynch Theater, Pope Auditorium). An argument could be made that Lincoln Center as idea goes beyond the limit of Lincoln Center as edifice. Or, they are just buildings. You decide. Aureliusweb (talk) 00:28, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
The residents who used to live there
editNothing is being said here about the people who used to live in this area in the five-story brownstones, nor of the Grace Institute institute mansion that used to be situated on 60th Street between Ninth and Tenth Avenue. We're supposed to believe from this Wikipedia page that 'all went well' in the construction of Lincoln Center. However, as a former resident, I do know something about how the tenants were forced out by putting in very low-class people in some of the buildings to harass the native tenants, and I also know the particular church that really owned this property but didn't care anything at all about the residents, some of whom attended its mass services. Whoever is reading this, you be the judge and if you can, do the detective work on this story. It would be good if this story came out at last!--38.117.139.174 (talk) 21:22, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that something should be written about the area prior to Lincoln Center. But I think the most appropriate place for that is the article Lincoln Square (Manhattan). Certainly you can mention both there and here that eminent domain was used to demolish the neighborhood, but beyond that, I feel the information about the resident/stores, etc. belong in the article on the neighborhood, not about Lincoln Center. -- kosboot (talk) 13:44, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Request: New York Fashion Week
editWill someone please add NYC's Fashion Week to this article? We have a fair amount of proof that Fashion Week has been relocated from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center.(Mikoism (talk) 00:46, 15 September 2010 (UTC))
- I think the article should be separate, as Fashion Week has merely purchased space from Lincoln Center Inc. Lincoln Center is not hosting it in the same way as it hosts the constituents. Perhaps a sentence at most. -- kosboot (talk) 19:58, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
- I've not changed my opinion, but if you want to put it in context, you can say that Lincoln Center Inc., in its search for more funding, has occasionally allowed corporations to lease space on the property. Such is the case with Fashion Week, Lexus, as well as other corporate sponsors. I saw an article about this in either Business Week or Harvard Business - I'll try to find it unless someone beats me to it. -- kosboot (talk) 15:22, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
Linking articles
editI find it frustrating when I look up one of the constituents and it leads me to this article. I think that is wrong, because people will suspect there are articles written (e.g. Lincoln Center Theater) when there are none. I feel it would be much better to remove all those redirects so that people will see that certain institutions are red-lined and will then be prompted to create articles on them. -- kosboot (talk) 20:01, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
In popular culture revisited
editSomebody removed the chapter on "In popular culture," a while back, dismissing it as trivia. I've been working on an article called Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in popular culture, but I need more material. ----DanTD (talk) 14:54, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

"Associated venues"
editThey're not really associated with Lincoln Center other than than by location. When Lincoln Center has an event in one of these places, they pay rent. - kosboot (talk) 21:09, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
- Agree with this - there does not seem to be any rationale for the inclusion of these venues in an article of Lincoln Center and don't add anything to the article. They are not affiliated with the Lincoln Center organization, they just are happen to be in the same area. Why not include restaurants near Lincoln Center? Popular food carts near Lincoln Center?N0TABENE (talk) 21:45, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
- I've removed them. BMK (talk) 00:15, 26 November 2015 (UTC)

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts → Lincoln Center – "Lincoln Center" is the more popular name for this place. Google has 11.5m results for "Lincoln Center" compared to 712k for the full name "Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts". Also, the official website uses simply "Lincoln Center" in its sidebar and marketing materials, indicating self-identity with the simpler name. The page "Lincoln Center" already redirects here, and this is the clear primary topic as shown by pageview stats that compare similar titles that include "Lincoln Center". epicgenius (talk) 03:22, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
- Support It's certainly the common name, and seems to be the one used in most official contexts as well -- I'm having trouble even finding this full name used on the official website.--Yaksar (let's chat) 05:25, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

- Qualified support/decline - The official name is unquestionably Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, as evidenced by the copyright notice on their webpage. The full version of the name is also what the Library of Congress name authorities designates. But if you consider that colloquial names overrule official names (as in the case of Felix Mendelssohn instead of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy), then yes, change. - kosboot (talk) 13:13, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
- Kosboot, yes, the nomination is calling for the colloquial name (most commonly used) to be the title of this article. Per WP:COMMONNAME
Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources)

Pride fountain pic
editHi all. I just uploaded this picture of Lincoln Center during Pride, with its rainbow lighting in the fountain and rainbow steps. Because it necessarily had to be taken around dusk to be able to see the colors in the fountain, the lighting on the buildings isn't as good as the current infobox, but I'm leaving it here in case others think it's worth including somewhere in the article. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 02:58, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
