Gib → Jib – More usual spelling. Page Jib is currently about a sort of sail. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:41, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Frauerika, AnonMoos, Biscuittin, and Andy Dingley: Please discuss here. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:41, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- Move to jib arm per modern usage; and crane jib should redirect here. Main meaning of jib is the sail. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:14, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- Jib for a crane arm, or other related meanings for a cantilevered arm. I don't see that the sail is the primary meaning. If the primary is doubtful, then disambig both - but "gib" is not the spelling used for cranes. Andy Dingley (talk) 08:47, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. Nominator needs to provide evidence of his assertions. Ivar the Boneful (talk) 19:13, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose: The proposed destination name is already occupied by an article, and the nomination provides no basis for an assertion of WP:primary topic status for the beam. The first definition for "jib" in Wikt:jib is the sail, not the beam. —BarrelProof (talk) 00:29, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. By significance the sail is the primary meaning, being the second most important type of sail (after mainsail or course). By search term it may be the other way around (much to my surprise but [1] [2]), so there may be a case for making the base name Jib a DAB. But there's no way it should be the crane arm. uninformed reponses to and decision on requested move
editPlease first look in a dictionary next time before voicing opinions about spellings and article names. The spelling gib is obsolete and has been for so long that it's not even mentioned as an old-fashioned variant in any modern dictionary i checked on onelook.com and elsewhere! --Espoo (talk) 11:50, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
- To be fair, the RM was to Jib not to Jib (crane) which is a different matter because the RM asserted that the crane arm was the primary usage, which it isn't. Having said that, I support your WP:BOLD move of Gib to Jib (crane). Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 05:43, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
