- They participated in the Art competitions in 1932, and in Sports in 1952. Whether you consider the Arts events to be an integral part of the Olympics or not is debatable. They were at the time, but they seem to have been largely erased from the Olympic records by the IOC. Fram (talk) 09:53, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Discussion
edit@TheQ Editor: Done all but one. See above for explanation Thanks a lot for the review. - NG39 (Used to be NickGibson3900)Talk 07:05, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
The article has way too much repetitiveness. Adding after every athlete "competed in the Beijing Olympics", "represented Guatemala at the Beijing Olympics" and so on is totally unnecessary, the article is about Guatemalans at the Beijing Olympics. "X participated in the marathon" or whatever the event is, is more than enough.
It is very confusing to have for the first athlete 98 competitors, of which 76 finished, when the second athlete claims 97 other athletes, of which 75 finished. It is technically correct (with the first, you include the Guatemalan athlete, but the second time you don't), but it is confusing and totally unnecessary. Give the general information on the marathon once.
The language needs a lot of cleanup; things like "Of those 60, 46 of them finished the event." or "Guatemala experienced a severe political turbulences" don't belong in a GA, and should probably have been caught before nominating it (an occasional problem is normal, but this article has too many of them left).
- "Guatemala was noted ruled"
- "For most of the late 1900s, Guatemala experienced a severe political turbulences and endured a guerrilla war that lasted 36 years. The war formally ended in 1996 with the signing of a peace treaty." What are the "late 1900s" in this paragraph? 1905-1909? 1970-1999? It doesn't seem to match the rest of the paragraph at all.
- "Prior to and including the Beijing Guatemala[...]" the Beijing what?
- "and a fifteen Olympic games overall" A should be At.
- "Born on 9 April1971 in Guatemala's capital Guatemala City, in 1971,[...]"
- "Her race took place on August 20, where Núñez faced 47 other athletes. Of those 47 competitors, 42 finished the race. Núñez ranked last of the 43 finishing athletes". Again, confusing in its repetitiveness. 48 started, 43 finished, Nunez was last of those.
- " In his first match against Bao that took 17 minutes,[6] Cordón lost, scoring 17 points while his Chinese opponent reached 21 points. He also lost in his second round match that took 19 minutes,[6] where he scored 16 to Bao's 21 points. " He only competed in the first round, had only one match, which had two games (comparable to sets in tennis). Please familiarize yourself with the different sports and their formats if you want to write articles about the Olympics.
- "Guatemala qualified one boxer for the Olympic boxing tournament." ... "competing in the Beijing Olympics as the only boxer representing Guatemala." We do have an attention span that lasts longer than two sentences, so please don't simply repeat the same info immediately.
- For the equestrian event, there shouldn't be a "Q" after the results for the first and second qualifying round, as people didn't qualify, everyone was allowed to compete in all three rounds and only then did you qualify.
- "He was three points greater than [...]" ???
- " Born in 1963, Romero made his Olympic debut at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where he competed in men's skeet and ranked 26th in the final round as a 40 year old. He returned in the Sydney Olympics in 2000 as a 26 year old, finishing in 35th place, and returned again to the Olympics in Beijing at age 48" Perhaps you need to recalculate the ages a bit here... This was noted by TheQ Editor above, and you marked this as "done", but the same very obvious problems are still there. This entry also doesn't match the lead, which says "Three of the twelve athletes were taking part in their second Olympics, and one of them, race walker Luis García, participated in his fourth. " Romero is here said to be at his third Olympics...
- "The gold medalist, Vincent Hancock, scored 145 points, 34 more points than Romero.[24]" Again, please familiarize yourself with the competition structure here. Hancock scored 121 points, not 145, so only 10 more than Romero. Then, the first 6 of the preliminaries competed in a final round, where they further increased their score obviously. There Hancock went from 121 to 145, but that is with more shots as well. Comparing his 145 to Romeros 111 is apples to oranges, not a fair comparison.
- "the men's flyweight class, which includes athletes below 51 kilograms in weight." The article on Flyweight states that it is from 49 up to 52 kilos, so below 52 instead of below 51.
- "With a time of 1:02.92, Morales placed second ahead of Serbian third place finalist Marica Strazmester (1:03.56) and behind Polish first place finalist Zuzanna Mazurek (1:02.77)." Um, they weren't finalists...
- "During the clean and jerk phrase of the event" That's "phase", not "phrase".
No idea whether these are all the problems, I haven't checked the sources thoroughly and mainly focused on things that were immediately apparent. I seriously wonder, looking also at the reverse GA review you did, whether the two of you know enough about sports to nominate and review sports-related GA articles. Fram (talk) 09:53, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
- @Fram: If only everyone was as good as you. Sadly, there are not many users who are like that. I bet that there will be many problems in a lot of reviews, that is why there needs to be multiple reviews in the FA process. But for the GA process, it's not that strict. One review would be enough, with the occasional GAR. I admit, I did rush through this review a bit and missed some points listed above. My bad, I'll make sure to take my time and go through it more thoroughly. @NG39:, can you fix the issues listed above? Also, for the last part, you think I don't know enough about sports?? Completely True, but I am interested in sports. Sports is basically the only subject that does not include politics, history and overly complicated subjects other than video games. You can hardly find anything about video games other than how to beat this level. So yeah, sports is basically the only subject I'm interested in. But the main reason I was reviewing this article was because NG39 submitted other articles like this to GAN which received rather short reviews so I was thinking of reviewing one myself.
