George Griffith

• ... that George Griffith (pictured) wrote a book about the Boer War three years before it started? Source: Moskowitz (1976), pp. 204–205; Stableford (1985), p. 50; Ellis (1977), p. 25; Victorian Secrets. Note that some of these give the year 1897 for Briton or Boer?, which is the year the hardcover was published, rather than 1896, the year the serial was.
  • ALT1: ... that George Griffith's (pictured) debut novel was not written until after its synopsis had already been published? Source: "The synopsis was published complete in the January 14, 1893, issue of Pearson's Weekly, apparently making it unnecessary to read the story, except that the serial hadn't been written yet!" – Moskowitz (1976), p. 188
