Merge in Optimistic decompression
editOptimistic decompression seems to be just one technique of file carving. There doesn't seem to be much to say about it, so it would seem to be better to combine the whole thing here, as this isn't such a large article either. --Bejnar (talk) 21:58, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
Disagree. Optimistic decompression is searching for compressed data and decompressing it, whereas file carving is specifically attempting to recover files. Other kinds of information can be recovered with optimistic decompression than files. 69.143.180.9 (talk) 21:45, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
Also disagree, and for essentially the same reasons. Optimistic decompression and file carving have mutually exclusive applications. Wocky (talk) 14:33, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
Carving of files with no header and no footer?
editFiles like .txt files or .csv files have no headers or footers. Is it correctly understood that file carving can't be used to recover those?
