I like Dan's work, but this reads like a hagiography - especially the teaching style section. I don't know enough about Wikipedia's conventions to make the necessary edits, but figured I'd flag the issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.218.149.169 (talk) 22:21, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

agreed. Don't have time to work on it at the moment, but I've added it to a to-do list. The teaching style section has problems, and there are no quotes. The last sentence of the citation is directly quoted in this article, but where was the rest of the teaching section pulled from? You can't just say this is how he teaches without having some kind of proof. This is Wikipedia afterall.
Also the lede needs to show some kind of evidence for the reason why he has a page here on WP, simply that he is a professor and lawyer is not enough. Otherwise WP would have have to double in size to support all the other lawyers and professors. Whoever rewrites the lede should consider making it clear, "Who is Dan Kahan, and why does he deserve a WP page above all the other people who also have the same degrees and occupations?" I'm sure the evidence exists out there that will make this a better page, just someone with more time should do so. Sgerbic (talk) 16:11, 16 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Needs extensive cleanup or deletion

edit

"His voice booms off the walls as he asks questions, most of which come with a laugh and a smile." You have got to be kidding me. Most of the accounts that have contributed to this article have only edited this and cultural cognition. A vanity piece that needs to be extensively rewritten, if not outright deleted. ~Eliz81(C) 19:28, 18 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Of the sources in the article, I'm not seeing anything to qualifies the subject as notable.
1. "Abstracts" seems to no longer exist. An wayback machine search reveals only a Godaddy site, so it seems to fall under WP:SPS.
2. Yale 2006 Commencement Address is a republished commencement address, which sort of falls under WP:SELFPUB since it's not so much about him as merely repeating him.
3. The Chicago Chronicle Profile on Dan Kahan is the closest thing to an RS, and it appears to be affiliated with him.
4. Empirical Legal Studies is a guest blog by Kahan. WP:SELFPUB again.
5. Law Preview Professors is a profile page for Jeff Rensberger.
6. Cultural Cognition just lists a half dozen marathon times. Completely irrelevant and WP:SELFPUB. This is not an article about a marathon runner but a so-called academic.
7. Most Cited Law Professors by Specialty, 2000-2007 might help, if there was anything else in there but "1. Dan Kahan (Yale University), 1070 citations, age 44." That's it. Might as well be nothing.
8. What do Alternative Sanctions Mean? is one of Kahan's papers. WP:SELFPUB.
9. Gentle Nudges vs. Hard Shoves: Solving the Sticky Norms Problem. Another paper by Kahan.
10. Secret Ambition of Deterrence. Yet another paper by Kahan.
Without some really good evidence to the contrary, I have to assume that this article was either written by Kahan himself to stroke his ego or by a student hoping to get extra credit or a recommendation from him. Ian.thomson (talk) 17:56, 19 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
