Band Name

edit

Not meaning to encourage the rumour mill - Heard some rumours though. Unfortunately un-citable - however, regarding the band name Cage the Elephant, possible links to the Republican Party logo (the Elephant), perhaps outlined in their anti-war lyrics etc. Can anyone confirm details or cite any sources in regards to band name? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.110.228.150 (talk) 16:39, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Funny, I took it in a different direction for inspiration: Horton Hears a Who. The antagonists chant that they will rope and cage the elephant protagonist, Horton, whom they believe to be insane. They don't use the exact phrase, but one could say it is one way of saying it.Legitimus (talk) 19:48, 31 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Not meaning to encourage the rumor mill, heard some rumors though" So yeah, you are meaning to encourage the rumor mill. When the band changed their name to Cage the Elephant from Perfect Confusion, they specifically stated on their MySpace page that the name had no political undertones. I'm sure the blog post is still there if someone wanted to cite it. Also, if you know the band, they could really give a fuck less about politics.

The above response was hardly necessary nor efficient in answering the question - yet another pointer towards Wikipedia's sliding standards. A link to the blog would be useful and would be entirely necessary to actually validate your response. Your use of vulgarity adds nothing more to the response either. Perhaps a more thought-about answer would have been in order. Regardless if I "know the band", which you apparently claim, a close examination of the song "Lotus" would show that the lyrics make obvious remarks about religion, war and the involvement of the two. I quote "Keep dropping bombs 'til the whole world's dead" and "A fashion statement, call it politics". I'm not encouraging any rumour mill, just postulating an hypothesis which is equally valid as the rather interesting comment about Horton Hears a Who —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.109.182.40 (talk) 17:57, 19 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I just saw them talk about this on Sex, News and Rock n' Roll (MTV Canada's News show) a few days ago they said they got the name after hearing this crazy guy shouting crazy stuff and he said "Cage the Elephant" and that stuck with them so if you want to put that you can watch Sex, News and Rock n' Roll for the last 2 weeks on MTV Canada's website and use that episode as the source. The idea that the band "didn't change their name" sounds kinda silly to me. It seems to me that if they're the same people, they're the same band. Is this some kind of inside joke? 204.74.159.2 (talk) 01:15, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup

edit

How does one mark an article for cleanup? This article is in pretty poor shape; not only is al of the pertinent information in a single paragraph (something that the "stub" marking can help with", it's terribly out of order and just reads poorly. Boter (talk) 22:58, 21 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cage the elephant got their name by the word elephant meaning goodness or strengh. The band wanted there fans to "cage" the idea of this.:D207.235.174.133 (talk) 15:50, 22 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Back in US

edit

There's no mention that Cage the Elephant has returned to the US. They have, confirmed by a facebook post by them upon an inquiry if they were still in the UK

Someone needs to add the "In One Ear" single to the page. Someone.

Too lazy. NERVUN (talk) 05:11, 8 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Genre

edit

Could they be considered indie rock? I think they can based on their sound.

Mistake in band members section

edit

It says that the band consists of 4 members, however immediately after 5 members are mentioned. Plus 1 that left. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.160.43.134 (talk) 21:01, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Prior Band Members

edit

I met some folks living in Bowling Green who mentioned a previous band member by the name of David Kem who was kicked out due to personal differences. Is there any confirmation that this person played with the original band members? I cannot find any mention of names of prior band mates. 67.61.14.25 (talk) 03:23, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

The entire first paragraph regarding the history of the band is not cited. I am curious if the author knew the band personally and they are a primary source. If so, this should be stated so I am able to trust the information of the band and their history. I feel as if this information may also be available on their website, which then may be cited appropriately. Pennylikeacoin (talk) 19:30, 7 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Cage the Elephant vs Cage The Elephant

edit

The band and self titled album is obviously called Cage The Elephant not Cage the Elephant. DanTheMusicMan2 (talk) 14:52, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
