East House?
editI was an undergrad in South/Cabot House during the name switch in 1984, and there was no East House at the time to be incorporated into Cabot -- it was all just South House. Does anyone have any more information on when/whether East House existed, and when it ceased to be? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 162.119.64.112 (talk) 16:52, 12 December 2006 (UTC).
Yes. It was in 1970 per the Cabot House website. When I was last in the Eliot Hall living room (I had my wedding reception there in 1980), it still said "East House Common Room" above the door. BreadbakerWA 10:40, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Alumni References
editCan someone please explain the Umberto Eco as an alumnus reference? He was born in 1932 and got his degree from the University of Turin. I could find no reference in an online biography of him (http://www.themodernword.com/eco/eco_biography.html) to it. He did deliver Norton Lectures at Harvard and perhaps was resident of Cabot then (I have no idea), but that doesn't make him an alumnus. Jeff Sachs was also a resident there his first two years as an undergrad at Harvard, but moved to Adams House for his senior year and is considered an alumnus of that house. I know that because I remember him moving (after he'd recommended to me that I live there). BreadbakerWA 10:40, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
merger proposal to List of Harvard residence houses and dormitories
editThere's a proposal to merge this article into a larger one to be created, List of Harvard residence houses and dormitories. Discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mather House (Harvard University). The larger list-article could possibly be created by moving List of Harvard College freshman dormitories to the new title, then merging in info about this and 12 other residence houses. Comment at the discussion there, not here. Please consider Wikipedia policy and guidelines if you comment. Note that wp:GNG standard requires substantial coverage in independent reliable sources, for a topic to have a separate Wikipedia article. --doncram 21:14, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
- Never mind. The discussion at that other AFD is superseded, for this article, by separate AFD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cabot House (2nd nomination). --doncram 15:43, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
Faculty Deans / House Masters
editI have changed the article to reflect the recent administrative change in titles from House Master to Faculty Dean. However, this change must be undertaken for all of the houses and for Harvard pages. This should include changing the template, which I do not know how to do. Perhaps some standard should be set on how to talk about previous House Masters? Should they still be called House Masters (as the title they had at the time) or should we refer to them as former Faculty Deans?
Also, it will be necessary to disambiguate with Resident Deans. Too many similar terms. --Canned Soul (talk) 02:45, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
- ... especially since the Faculty Deans are resident, just like the Resident Deans. Maybe they should call the Faculty Deans "Resident Faculty Deans" and the Resident Deans "Non-Faculty Resident Deans". The house system's going all to hell, I guess. EEng 06:57, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
