Removing contradiction “first Kurdish city to be liberated by the rebels and the last to fall”
The title sentence has a contradiction tag saying “The article on the 1991 uprisings in Iraq says that Basra was the first city to revolt.” and refers to 1991 uprisings in Iraq.
It is true that the uprising started in Basra, but that's not a contradiction to the sentence, since “Basra was the scene of chaotic, pitched battles for several days, but never fell completely into rebel hands. In other cities, the rebels ousted the security forces with little difficulty. The army later recaptured some cities, such as Karbala and al-Najaf, only after bitter fighting, but swept into others, such as Suleimaniyya, with little resistance.”[1] (the source that also contains the sentence about Sulaymaniyah).
Therefore, I'll remove the contradiction and make the disputed sentence a bit more clear.

The Battle of Sulaymaniyah was one of the largest battles fought during the 1991 uprising in Iraq. Sulaymaniyah, with a population of over 100,000 and predominantly Kurdish, was the first and last Kurdish city to be liberated by the rebels.[2] The city was recaptured by Kurdish rebels after the Peshmerga launched a new offensive on July 20. Copyright
Considering my changes are not allowed, does that mean that the source itself shouldn't be used anywhere on the article? Or is the problem that I was putting quotes...? Setergh (talk) 21:23, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- The source Has all rights reserved. Look at the top of the page where it says:
- "Copyright June 1992 by Human Rights Watch
- All rights reserved."
- I have not researched whether the source is a reliable source but the odds are likely that it is.
- The fact that it is subject to full copyright means you cannot simply use the text in an article with some exceptions.
- You are allowed to use short excerpts as quotes, either identified with quotation marks or set off in a block quote, but those short excerpts should be short. We don't have explicit rules about how short they should be but some other administrators suggests that passages longer than two sentences are intruding on too long.
- If it does qualify as a reliable source, which is likely, you are permitted to use it as a reference to support text added to the article but that text should be mostly in your own words. I hope this helps, please don't hesitate to ask if you want more information. S Philbrick(Talk) 22:27, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- I suppose I understand: Shorten the quote, which I'll gladly do. I don't see the point of flat out erasing my changes though, I'd figure it'd be simple to just shorten it and use the parts that I boldened.
- Thank you! Setergh (talk) 00:18, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- it was kurdish victory why Vbbanaz05 change all kurdish battles he was not admin he changed 2018 siirt raid who was pkk victory and change Third ararat operation and now battle of suleymaniah (1991) it was kurdish victory pls review page and Vbbanaz05 was not admin 185.240.17.157 (talk) 07:15, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- Your edits do not include logic on any page, and I think you're easily warrant of a ban.
- Of course the Kurds recaptured it, but it's not included within the timespan this battle is said to take place. Although yes, it is kind of strange that perhaps it's not broken down into stages (such as "Battles of Sulaymaniyah") or that there isn't another page. I'd say the first solution might be the most appropriate, such as the page Battles of Lanckorona or other ones. This I'd have to get permission from others though.
- Either way, your edits don't help Wikipedia as all you do is spread Kurdish propaganda everywhere you go. Setergh (talk) 09:23, 29 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi it was kurdish victory
Hello about the Sulaimani war, the war is one of the Kurdish uprising that the Kurds won this war and edited this war, please this page needs to be investigated because some people edit for political purposes Tishreen07 (talk) 07:34, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- What the hell does this even mean? Only thing I think I understand is that you think the Kurds won this "war" (what war, the uprising or the battle...? either way, they lost both).
- And I wouldn't be surprised if you have something to do with the Vbbanaz problem. Setergh (talk) 09:29, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- i have sources it was kurdish you guys changed source:https://military-history.fandom.com/wiki/1991_uprising_in_Sulaymaniyah
- look it was kurdish victory kurdish rebels recapture the city in 7 july i don’t know why you guys change kurdish battles

- Yeah brotha if you weren't blind I think you'd see that not only does it mention that the Kurds recapture it, but that it's the battle from the period of 5 March - 3 April, in which July sadly for you does not fall. Setergh (talk) 10:24, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- Also this battle is for the 1991 Iraqi uprisings, which is likely why this page does not include what happened in July because well, that didn't happen during the 1991 Iraqi uprisings. Setergh (talk) 10:28, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
