Inclusion

edit

What are the criteria for including an event or exhibition? This is a rather skimpy list. It would hardly give a reader a survey of what has happened this year. It seems arbitrary. Warrenking (talk) 20:34, 23 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Common sense has to rule - at any given moment there are thousands of exhibitions worldwide each year, every year. If one is listed then everyone wants a listing. Consequently only important precedent setting, important news-making events, milestones in the art world should be included. The first Whitney Biennial not every Whitney Biennial, etc...Modernist (talk) 20:52, 23 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough answer. It's still a bit disappointing that auction results make up for so much of it. This doesn't give a sense of what the zeitgeist of the time was or is. 2010 seems to be a year with as much excess as any of the previous years, but there was also lots of discussion challenging the art market as a measure of value and asking questions about ethics. Tino Sehgal's show at the Guggenheim may be a kind of precedent. However, I'd have to give more though to other kind of precedents. Warrenking (talk) 21:10, 23 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Bruce High Quality Foundation perhaps? Warrenking (talk) 21:15, 23 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Deitch becomes director of MOCA? Seems to have been quite the controversy there. Also, it was the first time a former dealer was appointed as a museum director. Warrenking (talk) 21:15, 23 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Warren - if you have very strong positive notions about a particular event; add it; if there are objections then consensus will determine the outcome. I would like to not include auction results except those really exceptional instances as the recent Picasso and Giacometti sale or the 140 million dollar Pollock, or something like the old Robert Scull auction or the late 80s Van Gogh sale to the Japanese collector etc...Modernist (talk) 22:25, 23 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
