Manlike was never concerned about the zemene mesafint and the princes that dominated might have had Oromo lineage but they were not ruling as Oromo but as assimilated Abeshas. Menelik's expansion was for land and riches but he rushing to expand an empire before Europeans got to him. You can not underestimate the disruptive effect that Europeans circling Ethiopia had on Ethiopian politics.
