Jung Jae-il (Korean: 정재일,Korean pronunciation: [tɕʌŋ tɕɛ il]; born 7 May 1982) is a South Korean music composer. He notably composed the score of critically-acclaimed works: the 2019 Academy Award-winning film Parasite, directed by Bong Joon-ho,[2] and the television series Squid Game, which he earned a nomination for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music in 74th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

Biography
editHe was three when he first sat on a piano, played the guitar at nine, and at age 13, he posted an ad on a music magazine called Hot Music[3] "to find bass drums and vocals to do a style of music that is similar to the British heavy metalband Carcass."[4] He graduated from Seoul Jazz Academy.[1] He debuted as the bassist of the band gigs (which Jung Won-young, vocalist Lee Juck and guitarist Han Sang-won were also part of) in November 1999.[5][6] He released his first solo album "tear flower(눈물꽃)" in 2003.[4] He also was a member of band Puri in their second album in 2007.[7][8] He went to serve the military when he was at the age of 30 (around 2012 or 2013).[3] He played the piano at the April 2018 inter-Korean summit.[9] In 2021, he won the Hollywood Music in Media Awards for Best Score in a TV Show for Squid Game.[10]
