Political Career

edit

He was appointed the Spokesperson of Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party. In the political landscape of Tamil Nadu, Markandayan's journey took a significant turn during the 2019 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by-elections when the AIADMK party denied him a ticket. This decision led Markandayan to contest independently as a rebel candidate from the Vilathikulam constituency, thereby resigning as the spokesperson of AIADMK. Consequently, the AIADMK leadership expelled him from the party, marking a pivotal moment in his political career. Despite the odds, Markandayan's independent candidacy garnered significant attention[citation needed], securing a notable 28,000 votes.
