from 4 August 1828 until September 1828: sale of the collection of Weduwen en wezen Fonds van het Chirurgijnsgilde, Amsterdam, at Jeronimo de Vries, Amsterdam, lot no. 109, unsold (as ‘Rembrand hoog 1 el 6 p. 3 d., breed 2 el 1 p. 6 d. Doek. 109. De alom beroemde schilderij, behorende aan het Chrurgijnsweduwenfonds te Amsterdam, en aldaar geplaatst geweest op het Theatrum Anatomicum, verbeeldende den Burgemeester en Hoogleraar in de genees- en heelkunde, Nicolaas Tulp zijne vrienden en leerlingen, Mr. Jacob Block, Hartman Hartmansz, Adriaan Slabbraan, Jacob de Wit, Matthijs Kalkoen, Jacob Koolveld en Frans van Loenen, in de ontleedkunde onderwijzende. Hij is gezeten met een breeden hoed op het hoofd, houdende een ontleedtang in de hand, voor hem ligt op den ontleedtafel het lijk, zijne vrienden zijn bloodshoofds en luisteren met de meeste aandagt en inspanning naar hunnen meester, wiens geheele houding de toon van onderrigting aanduidt; de schikking der hoofden, de onuitsprekelijke karaktermatige uitdrukkingen van ieders bijzondere belangstelling, zoo kunstig naar een en hetzelfde hoofddoel gericht, de kalmte des meesters en het vuur der leerlingen, maken dit historiëel meesterstuk met zoo vele belangrijke portretten en afbeeldingen den hoogsten lof waardig, zoodat men zien kan dat Rembrand, die zoo zeer gehecht was aan, als beschermd door den Burgemeester Tulp en deszelfs schoonzoon, den Burgemeester Jan Six, (den bijzonderen en meest hartelijken vriend van Rembrand) alle zijne kunstvermogens heeft ten koste gelegd, om dit als een meesterstuk van zijne kunst te vervaardigen. Zijnde deze allerberoemdste Schilderij verder bekend door de prent van J. de Frey.’)
