Description
English: "Ryu sho ten" or "Ryu shoten" (Dragon rising to the heavens), also known as "Gekko Zuihitsu" (Gekko's Sketch), a Ukiyo-e print from Ogata Gekko's Views of Mt. Fuji. A dragon rises out of smoke near Mt. Fuji, ascending towards the sky.

The text on the left hand side is in an archaic form of Japanese writing that includes characters not in common use any more. translation follows:

明治卅年十一月一日印刷同月五日発行印刷兼発行日本橋区吉川町二番地松木平吉
Printed on Nov 1st, 30 of Meiji [1897], published on the same month 5th. Printed and published by Heikichi Matsuki, who lives 2 Yoshikawa, Nihonbashi ward.

Türkçe: Ryū Shō Ten (龍昇天, "Ejderin göğe yükselişi"), bir ejderhanın Fuji Dağı önünde bulutlar içinde göğe doğru yükseldiğini göstren ukiyo-e eseri, Nihonbashi-ku Yoshikawa-chō 2 adresinde Matsuki Heikichi tarafından 1 Kasım 1898 tarihinde basıldı ve 5 Kasım tarihinde yayımlandı. (Ogata Gekkō).
日本語 尾形月耕の浮世絵『龍昇天』(月耕随筆)。富士山を背景に、雲の中を龍が昇ってゆくのを描いたもの。

This is a retouched picture, which means that it has been digitally altered from its original version. Modifications: levels adjustment, dirt removal, etc, some fixing of tears around the edge of the image, though not extensive - I felt that a few signs of age work well in something like this. Further edit: warm colour cast removed..
