Summary
Armored Units Museum of El Goloso Infantry/Cavalry Fighting Vehicle (VCI / C) Pizarro, known in Austria as Ulan. Its building began in Spain in 1996 as a joint project between the Spanish company Santa Bárbara Sistemas and Austrian company Steyr Daimler Puch. The project, called ASCOD (Austrian Spanish Cooperative Development) resulted in a first prototype in 1991, with six wheels (the standard model has seven). In late 1993 was built the second prototype, called PT-II, also with six wheels. It was delivered to the Infantry Academy of Toledo for submission to a stark assessment: shots were fired at the vehicle to test both its armor -metal parts and armored-glass visors-, and tested for resistance to blast landmines, leaving shattered their caterpillars and several wheels. The second prototype, as with caterpillars repaired, is preserved in the museum of El Goloso. Still see the bullet holes in his shell and wheels destroyed by mine explosion. |
