English: DECORATED REGIMENT OF INDIAN ARMY CELEBRATED THE BICENTENARY
A tank mounted parade was conducted as part of the three day bicentenary celebrations of The Poona Horse today. The Colonel of the Regiment & the Quarter Master General of the Indian Army, Lt Gen Rajeev Vasant Kanitkar received the salute of the mounted march-past. Serving and retired officers and men of the Unit & their families attended the function. The Poona Horse was raised on 15 July 1815 at Sirur, near Poona (now Pune). Pre Independence, The Poona Horse has won 34 battle honours and Four Victoria Crosses, 19 Military crosses, six Indian Order of Merit and fought in both the World Wars in Europe and the Middle East respectively. Post Independence, it was also part of action for Liberation of Hyderabad, the Indo Pakistan wars in 1965 and 1971 and was deployed in Golan Heights under the aegis of United Nations peace keeping force from 2006- 2008. It was awarded three more battle honours along with two Param Vir Chakras, two Maha Vir Chakras, five Vir Chakras amongst other achievements.
