Draft talk:Attacks on the United States (2000–present)

Why is there a draft list for attacks after 2000? Should we eventually merge the two?

Why have two separate lists? Is this for editing purposes and if so is the eventual plan to keep working both on this draft and the Attacks on the United States (2000–present) until both or robust enough to merge into one? Historyguy1138 (talk) 19:26, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

@Historyguy1138: WP:SIZERULE. Prior to the split out, the main article was already over 8,000 words and only up through 1920s was actually completed. None of WW2 was done yet. At 10,000 words, you are suppose to split out, so since consensus basically forced this into draftspace until the article is better quality, I went ahead and did the split. Some things to consider maybe for the sake of brevity. We make this list of attacks more like the lists you seen in list of wars involving (insert nation here), that way people can just click on each article they want and get the whole article there.

Also do you think that if we cannot merge the two articles then we should split the attacks drafts by each century? Historyguy1138 (talk) 21:25, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

Well, per WP:SIZERULE, which has “rules of thumb” to guide editors, 9,000 words is listed as “Probably should be divided or trimmed, though the scope of a topic can sometimes justify the added reading material” and 15,000 words is listed as “Almost certainly should be divided or trimmed”. So if I understand your concern (i.e. having two articles), then if somehow, everything from 1920 to 2024 could be less than 9,000 words (i.e. what are have left before the 15,000 word mark), then it could be merged back together. Gotcha gotcha. Makes sense. So then we'll have to see how big the main article gets and see if we have to split it into even more articles.

But then that leaves us with the list of wars model to consider (if possible). Again I do not wish to be unappreciative of the hard work that is going on to make these articles.
