Oskar Schorer (10 August 1928 - 9 November 2023) was a German entrepreneur and philanthropist known for founding the company OSCHO (an acronym based on his first and last name) and its subsidiary Interplaning GmbH[2][3].
Early Life
editBorn in Langenhaslach, Bavaria (Germany), Schorer grew up in modest circumstances with two brothers. After completing eight years of schooling, he trained as a merchant. Following World War II, he started his own business selling household items and whetstones, initially using just a bicycle[3].
Commercial Activity
editIn 1962, Schorer founded OSCHO, which would become his flagship company. Seven years later, in 1969, he established the subsidiary Interplaning GmbH[3][4]. Under the brand name "Euro-Quell," the company produced and sold various products, including the popular "tellofix" seasoning mix[1]. At its peak, Schorer's businesses employed up to 80 people[5].
Schorer was known for his business acumen, willpower, and entrepreneurial spirit. In 2005, at the age of 77, he sold his company to the Swiss Hügli Group but remained active in the honey wholesale business for several more years[1][5].
Philanthopy
editBeyond his business achievements, Schorer supported local associations in his hometown, contributed to the construction of the parish barn, and and established the "Social and Church Foundation Langenhaslach"[5]. He also served on the Langenhaslach municipal council from 1972 to 1978[5].
Honors and Awards
editIn recognition of his contributions, Schorer received several honors:
- Federal Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (May 2013) [5]
- Honorary citizenship of the Market Neuburg an der Kammel (June 2022) [6]
Death
editSchorer died on November 9, 2023, at the age of 95, leaving behind a legacy of entrepreneurship and philanthropy in his native region[3].
