Marat Latypov is a researcher and academic at the University of Arizona.[1]. His work primarily focuses on mechanics of materials with computational materials science approaches and materials informatics. As of 2024, he has contributed to over 40 peer-reviewed publications[2]. He is known for his interdisciplinary approach and diverse background in international research initiatives[3].

Early Life and Education

Latypov earned his Dipl.-Ing. in Engineering Physics from the Ufa State Aviation Technical University in Russia, followed by a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Pohang University of Science and Technology in South Korea[4]. During his graduate studies, Latypov focused on metal forming processes[5], which laid the groundwork for his later contributions to the field.

Career

After finishing his Ph.D. student in South Korea, Latypov moved to Georgia Tech Lorraine in France as a CNRS Postdoctoral Researcher with Prof. Surya Kalidindi, where he worked on materials informatics. Then Latypov moved to the University of California, Santa Barbara as a Postdoctoral Scholar with Prof. Tresa Pollock and Prof. Irene Beyerlein while working on microstructure-based modeling of Ni-based superalloys, cyberinfrastructure for structural materials informatics, and non-destructive evaluation[6][7]. In 2019, Latypov moved to the Novelis Global Research & Technology Center in Kennesaw, GA. His latest career move happened in 2021, when he joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Arizona as an Assistant Professor. His also serves as a faculty member within the Applied Mathematics Graduate Interdisciplinary Program[8][9]. His primary responsibilities include:

• Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in physics-informed machine learning, thermodynamics, kinetics

• Mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral researchers[10]

• Conducting research on metallurgy and mechanics of structural alloys, deep learning, Bayesian inference, language models, and high-performance computing[11]

Latypov has won two NSF grants as a co-PI[12][13]
