Hunter × Hunter Nen × Impact is an upcoming 3v3 fighting game for Nintendo Switch and Playstation 5, as well as PC (via Steam) based on the Hunter × Hunter franchise. It is being developed by Eighting and will published in Japan by Bushiroad,..[1] and published by Arc System Works[2] internationally. It is set to release worldwide in 2025[3].

This is the first fighting game made for the franchise, despite appearances from its characters in crossover games of the genre in the past, such as Jump Ultimate Stars and Jump Force.

Nen × Impact will feature 16 playable characters, 10 of which are confirmed, with the remaining listed as "Coming Soon[4]."

Gameplay features

edit

The game follows a 3 on 3 gameplay format similar to one of Eighting's other fighting games, Marvel vs. Capcom 3[5]. Characters on your team can be swapped to or called forward for an assist attack.

The game features an auto-combo mechanic aided by the use of the Rush Button.

Super moves are referred to as "Aura Arts," and can be done alongside the other members of your team for a unique animation.

The game also features a comeback mechanic known as "Over Gear" that increases the characters' speed and attack powers. It can only be used once per match[6].

Background

edit

Nen × Impact is being developed by Eighting & published by Bushiroad. The game was first announced as a then-unnamed Hunter × Hunter fighting game at the Bushiroad Games panel at Jump Festa 2024 on December 15th, 2023[7]. It was also announced that more information would be revealed at the Bushiroad New Year Presentation on January 6th, 2024.

During the Bushiroad New Year Presentation, the title of the game, Hunter × Hunter Nen × Impact was revealed, and the official website was created[8]. Gon, Killua, Leorio, Kurapika, Hisoka, and Netero were confirmed in this initial teaser.

On March 8th, 2024, it was confirmed via the official Twitter account that the game would be a 2D fighting game. Furthermore, it was revealed that the game would be releasing on Nintendo Switch, PC (via Steam), and Playstation 5, and that the game would have a playable demo at EVO Japan[9].

On April 11th, 2024, it was announced that the game would also have a playable demo at the Kansai Gaming Party on May 5th[10]

On April 25th, 2024, the first look at gameplay was revealed via YouTube video by the Japanese esports group, CAG OSAKA[11]. Additional gameplay was revealed by Goziline, a Japanese gaming news outlet via their official Twtitter acccount. Later, they would publish an article giving a brief rundown of each playable character from the demo's playstyle and moveset.[12]. This first look at gameplay confirmed that the game would feature 16 characters and 10 stages at launch. Later on the same day, the 1st PV for the game was uploaded on the official Bushrioad Games YouTube channel, which confirmed Uvogin and Machi for the game[13]. Japanese gaming news outlet Famitsu would later release an article going in-depth on the movesets of the known roster of the game, including Uvogin and Machi[14]

On April 29th, 2024, an additional character, Genthru, was revealed for the game via a gameplay showcase by professional fighting game player & content creator, Justin Wong[15]. According to Wong, Genthru was intended to be revealed at EVO Japan, but no such announcement occurred, so his video served as the official announcement.

On June 7th, 2024, it was confirmed via the official Arc System Works Twitter account that the company would be publishing the game outside of Japan[16]. Shortly after, as part of IGN's "IGN Live" event, Biscuit Krueger was revealed as a playable character for the game in a promotional video posted to the Arc System Works official English YouTube channel & Twitter account.
