A work enters the public domain in most European countries (with the exception of Belarus) 70 years after the creator's death, if it was published during the author's lifetime.[1]

Entering the public domain in the United States

The Copyright Term Extension Act means no new works would automatically enter the public domain in this jurisdiction until 2019.[3] However Nina Paley decided to donate her 2008 film Sita Sings the Blues to the public domain.[4]
