When you join Design Group as a Sr. Designer, Electrical, you are joining a team that will challenge you and position you for growth. In this role, you will work with a team of industry experts to help the world’s leading companies solve their most difficult problems. You will join our Architecture/Engineering Process Practice and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.

What You’ll Do

You'll work individually and in teams to support capital projects and implement solutions for our clients. Together, you will help our clients make critical changes to improve their performance and realize their most important goals.

  • Work with licensed engineers and other experienced designers to design power distribution, motor control, and lighting systems for industrial, life science and advanced technology facilities
  • Review and approve electrical designs for low voltage electrical power distribution systems
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers and contractors on new construction/renovation projects
  • Review electrical design specifications and drawings
  • Review cost estimates and budgets
  • Work on multiple projects
  • Read and interpret design drawings and specifications.
  • Write reports
  • Conduct field surveys independently
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Engineering for power, lighting, fire alarm, structured cabling / low voltage, security / access control, paging / AV, etc.
  • Includes receptacle layouts, other power connections to equipment furnished by other trades (M,P,FP, etc.), elevators, food service, etc.
  • Electrical service design including incoming power from utility poles, pad mount transformers and service vaults.
  • Emergency electrical service design including generators (stand alone and paralleled sets), paralleling gear design, transfer switches, UPS systems, etc
  • Supporting calculations including service load calculations, lighting calculations (energy and point-by-point photometrics), short circuit and voltage drop calculations, coordination studies, etc.
  • Current NEC, NFPA and building code knowledge


What You’ll Bring

  • 10 years’ experience in areas such as low and medium voltage power, SKM or Easy Power, load flow analysis, and the design of electrical engineering drawings
  • Industrial, Hospital or other highly technical facility design experience
  • Experience with multi-discipline large capital projects involving Owners, General Contractors, and Contractors.
  • Experience in communications with utilities (power, low voltage, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of Engineering and Construction
  • Design/Build design & construction experience preferred
  • Familiar with facilities document control systems
  • Experience with modifications to existing facilities and the interpretation and incorporation of existing electrical drawings into new designs
  • Experience reviewing and updating electrical system models
  • Experience with project close out: reviewing construction specifications, submittals, as-built documents, punch lists and other close out documents
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit (Revit is preferred)
  • Proficient with written and verbal technical communication including generating reports and conducting group presentations.
  • Excellent communication skills and be able to work with other engineering disciplines, sometimes across multiple offices
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited college in Electrical Engineering or a 2-year degree with relevant experience
  • Licenses: The ability to become a licensed Professional Engineer is preferred
