POSITION TITLE
Special Olympics Head Coach—Exceptional Student Services

JOB GOAL
To organize and conduct a training program which develops the mental, physical, and social and behavioral skills for the Special Olympic athletes and ensures that participation is a positive experience by adhering to the Special Olympics guidelines.
Performance Responsibilities
Seasonal depending on the sport, addendum contract basis. The Governing Board will establish salary and work year.

Qualifications
- Valid Arizona State Teaching Certificate.
- Valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Valid CPR and First Aid certification.
- Demonstrated ability to work with students with low incidence disabilities, District-wide staff, and parents.
- Registered volunteer of Special Olympics of Arizona required.
- Knowledge of Special Olympics guidelines required.
- Must exhibit good physical health.
- Must be a reliable individual who can organize, maintain training schedule, and delegate tasks to volunteers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of implementation of I.E.P. goals for individual students.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, initiate cooperation, and motivation of group members to accomplish tasks.
- Positive communication and interpersonal skills.
Director of Exceptional Student Services
JOB GOAL
To organize and conduct a training program which develops the mental, physical, and social and behavioral skills for the Special Olympic athletes and ensures that participation is a positive experience by adhering to the Special Olympics guidelines.
Performance Responsibilities
- Organizes and supervises the training schedule for Special Olympic athletes.
- Provides minimum hours of practice to meet local and chapter competition eligibility requirements.
- Teaches the athletes and volunteers the rules of the sports.
- Coordinates with the volunteers and parents regarding drop off and pick up of Special Olympic athletes.
- Provides a safe environment for students to practice.
- Designs lesson plans reflective of physical conditioning for local and chapter competitions.
- Evaluates athletes for injury and follows procedures immediately to report accident(s) to parent, supervisor, school health aide, and local Indian Health Services as appropriate.
- Matches student abilities with others for fair competition.
- Provides adequate and appropriate training equipment.
- Ensures that athletes have an opportunity to participate in the events that challenge students based on their abilities.
- Attends Special Olympics trainings for coaches and disseminates information to athletes, volunteers, sponsors, and parents in a timely manner.
- Exercises responsibilities identified for head of delegations and coach during competitions, safety guidelines, and complies with competition rules.
- Collaborates with local and chapter officials for event evaluations and constructive input for rule changes.
- Works closely with sponsor to arrange registration, transportation, lodging, meals, and trip itinerary with volunteers well in advance.
- Assists the sponsor with coordinating fund raising activities.
- Supervises directly the athletes in practice sessions.
- Solicits the assistance of volunteers for adequate supervision of athletes at practices and Special Olympics related functions.
- Works closely with the sponsor to promote fair competition of athletes in local and chapter competitions.
- Assumes responsibility at all times for the well-being of the athletes.
- Models sportsmanship manners and conduct at all times.
- Promotes the philosophy that athlete participation and positive learning experiences are more important than competing and winning.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes responsibilities as the principal, superintendent, or the Board may deem in the best interest of the District.
