Executive Director-Police Activities League of Massachusetts, Inc.

Robert Half Executive Search has been exclusively retained to assist our client, Police Activities League (PAL) of Massachusetts, Inc., in finding their next Executive Director (ED). The ideal candidate is a seasoned, mission-driven, strategic leader who has a passion for serving the needs of at-risk youth across the Commonwealth. The ED must be able to hit the ground running, be able to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, and have scaled a nonprofit organization within a relatively short period of time. They will have track record of success with multiple forms of fundraising (grants, individual and corporate giving, events, etc.) and will be comfortable recruiting talent to join the dedicated and supportive Board of Directors.


Specific roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive and innovative fundraising strategy including grants, individual giving, events, and corporate support. Pre-existing donor relationships expected
  • Working with a variety of partners, including local, city and state law enforcement (i.e. MA State police) and first responders throughout the Commonwealth, and collaborating with local and statewide community organizations (such as Special Olympics) to help execute effective community engagement activities for youth.
  • Preparing monthly forecasts vs. budget, comprehensive cash flow analyses, income statements, and other financial documents as requested by the Board of Directors
  • Effectively communicating the organization’s mission, vision, strategy, and value proposition to ensure prospective donors are informed, aligned, inspired, and engaged
  • Formulating the annual budget for Board review and approval
  • Facilitating the Strategic Planning process, including the tracking of follow-up on targeted responsibilities
  • Supervising management and control of the agency’s finances, including payables, receivables, cash flow, insurance administration, and all internal and external financial operations
  • Acting as Personnel Officer, ensuring that all policies, procedures, position descriptions, and general personnel practices conform with all applicable statutes
  • Adopting and enforcing appropriate anti-discrimination policies, which meet the requirements of applicable law, including a policy against sexual and other discriminatory harassment, and a policy for reasonable accommodation on account of disability
  • Serving as the main point of contact for the public, media inquiries, foundations, the business community, and government agencies
  • Establishing guidelines and monitoring website content, social media presence, and marketing materials to promote positive community work and partnerships


EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION/LICENSE CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree highly desirable
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License
  • CORI/SORI checks required


FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES-SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Ten (10) years of professional experience leading a mission-based non-profit organization of at least $5 million in size, in an entrepreneurial environment
  • A proven track record of year-over-year financial growth of an organization
  • An openness and willingness to work closely with the Board
  • Ability to create a vision and strategy for the future direction of the organization
  • Proven ability to successfully interact and form strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • A strong understanding of marketing and communications best practices
  • Ability to be flexible and perform work under time pressure when necessary
  • Prior experience with budgeting, personnel management, and public relations
  • Strong computer skills required
  • A bilingual (English/Spanish) background would be an asset



Compensation for this role will range from $150,000 to $165,000, commensurate with experience.
