Executive Director


Albany Helping Hands (AHH) is the largest and oldest homeless shelter in Linn County. We house over one hundred men and women in the main dormitory and transitional houses. AHH also has a dining hall/administrative office building, two more houses and operates two businesses: a U-HAUL dealership, and a Thrift Store. We have a paid staff of twelve.


The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Albany Helping Hands, Inc. This includes responsibility for overall operations, the administration of all programs, staff management, and strategic planning. Programs include housing, case management, Pathways to Independence, fund raising, food service, maintenance, public relations, human resources, and finance.


This position requires compassion and a willingness to understand those who have previously experienced, or are currently experiencing homelessness, domestic and sexual violence, mental illness, substance use disorder, and addiction. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors.


Duties of the Executive Director include, but are not limited to, the following:

BOARD RELATIONSHIP:

·        Be fully committed to fulfilling the Mission of Albany Helping Hands as defined by the Board of Directors: Demonstrate the love of Jesus by meeting basic needs, encouraging faith, and giving hope for a brighter future.

·        Lead the organization in a manner that supports the organization’s mission. 

·        Communicate effectively with the Board of Directors and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board of Directors to function properly and make informed decisions. 

·        Collaborate with the Board of Directors on policy development, goal setting and strategic planning.


ORGANIZATIONAL OPERATIONS:

·        Oversee the creation, implementation, and monitoring of Shelter guest programs in collaboration with relevant staff.

·        Hire and retain competent, qualified staff. 

·        Supervise staff and perform annual review.

·        Demonstrate the importance of all staff within the organization.

·        Develop and articulate policies and procedures for the Shelter.

·        Establish and maintain effective and efficient daily operations. 

·        Negotiate contracts and agreements with vendors on behalf of the organization. 

 

FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE AND VIABILITY:

·        Approve outgoing financial transactions, with Board approval, when required. 

·        Work with the Treasurer and financial staff to develop the annual budget. Operate within that budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization and maintenance of the organization.

·        Take a lead in fundraising and developing additional revenues necessary to support the mission and operations.

 

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

·        Enhance the organization’s image by being active and visible within the community, engaging with community partners.

·        Be the feet of God and the face of Albany Helping Hands.

·        Serve as the organization’s primary spokesperson to the media and public. 

·        Regular information sharing with the Communications Director. 

·        Regularly attend and participate in community groups and meetings. Such as: HEART, HEAL, MAC Group, LCMH Advisory Board, and Albany Christian Leaders.

·        Lead fundraising and community awareness.

·        Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic plans and goals to staff, Board of Directors, volunteers, donors, and media. 

·        Be an example of the organization’s mission to donors, volunteers, and the overall community. 

·        Ability to oversee, encourage, support, and collaborate with staff. 

·        Skilled at listening and building consensus.

·        Ability to speak and present in groups.






PREFERED- EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

·        Have experience as a Executive Director or equivalent experience.

·        College Graduate, Bachelor of Arts/Science preferred, or equivalent experience.

·        Skilled in technology: Ability to use, read, and disseminate Database information. Use of Microsoft Office and other apps

·        Effective in English in all written and oral communication.

·        Effective communicator in public speaking.

·        Experience working with a Board of Directors and 501c (3) non-profits.
