PURPOSE OF ROLE ExperiencedAutomotive Engineer

The purpose of this job is to be a key part of the engineering team, located at Exsels Worcestershire site, and working on project delivery, service provision and product development. The job encompasses designing, implementing, testing, acceptance and after-sales support of automotive vehicles for the international Defence, market sectors. This job is focussed on the automotive engineering aspects of the projects, but will work within the context of a multi-disciplinary and multi-site engineering team delivering complete solutions to the customer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • To advance the goals of the company by producing innovative, exciting, and rigorous automotive designs.
  • To translate designs into concise and clear workshop and supplier drawings with consideration of the manufacturing process
  • To provide technical expertise to the tender process including the preparation of specifications, costing and plans based on the customer requirements and expectations
  • To hold and document regular design reviews
  • To lead technical liaison with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure that the customer's requirements are met
  • To conduct feasibility studies and engineering assessments
  • To approve designs and drawings against specified requirements
  • To provide technical support to the operations department
  • To mentor others and develop knowledge and skills within the team
  • To understand health and safety requirements
  • To participate in the performance review process and identify development areas and strengths.
  • To participate in continuous professional development

GENERAL

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and work outside core hours on occasion.
  • Travel to other Exsel group sites and occasional overseas travel may be required.
  • Must be able to work in the UK without restrictions & meet UK government security vetting criteria.

HEALTH & SAFETY

  • Adhere to all relevant Health and safety procedures and observe safe working practices. All work to be conducted in a safe manner.
  • Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to be used when required.
  • All tools and equipment are to be cleared away at the end of a task and work area cleared up before the end of working day.
  • All hand tools (if used) are to be maintained in a safe useable condition.
  • To advise advanced Technician, team leader or line manager of any Health & Safety issues promptly.

  • Design of automotive structural components and systems
  • 2D and 3D CAD generation ideally Solidworks or Catia
  • Design For Manufacturing experience
  • Good knowledge of main automotive manufacturing technologies
  • Complex systems sizing and designing
  • Ensuring that the components and systems released meet all Legal requirements
  • The job holder will require a valid driving licence.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Attention to detail.

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • A degree or equivalent in automotive engineering
  • Confident application of automotive engineering
  • Skilled in preparing technical reports and presentations for customers
  • Experience of working within an ISO 9001 Organization
