Intellectual Property Attorney, Family Office

Position Summary

This position requires a highly organized individual who possesses strong initiative and can complete multiple projects in a deadline driven environment. This individual must be able to communicate effectively.

  • This position must report to our West Hollywood office Monday through Friday.*

Job Essentials, Responsibilities, Duties

  • Advise clients on all aspects of IP, such as brand and copyright clearance, brand protection marketing campaigns, product launches, etc.
  • Assist in registering and managing IP prosecution for trademarks and patents.
  • Manage IP infringement issues, including online takedowns, drafting and sending cease-and-desist letters, legal agreements, etc.
  • Partner with outside IP counsel and client attorneys to advise on best IP practices.
  • Prepare business practices and policies relating to IP.
  • Perform IP due diligence and drafting and negotiating items for mergers and acquisition transactions.
  • Draft, review, negotiate and interpret a variety of agreements relating to the entertainment industry.
  • Analyze and advise in connection with legal rights and obligations, deal structure, guild agreements, intellectual property matters, claims, clearances, audits, and other matters as needed.
  • Work collaboratively to develop and/or improve systems, processes, controls, and procedures that improve the overall efficiency of the firm and ensure excellent client service.
  • Apply innovative problem-solving skills and practical business judgment to maximize revenues, minimize risk and foster long-term client relationships.
  • Ensure consistency of contract terms with Tri Star’s best practices, policies, and business goals.
  • Expedite and review contracts from client attorneys, business managers, insurance companies, production companies or any other contractual agreements.
  • Collaborate with and facilitate cross-team decision-making.
  • Endorse contracts prior to submission to the CEO for approval and processing by Business Management.
  • Act as a strategic partner on the Executive Leadership team and will work closely with the staff to ensure they are meeting performance expectations. Coach and develop the team to ensure they are delivering against key business metrics.

  • Excellent contract review and drafting skills.
  • Ability to assess size and scope of contemplated transactions and to tailor contracts and negotiation effort accordingly.
  • Superior analytical and writing skills, combined with strong business and financial acumen.
  • Proven track record of outstanding performance in a previous job.

Qualifications

  • Able to reliably commute and report to the Tri Star office
  • 8 years working in legal in the entertainment industry
  • In-house intellectual property experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited 4-year college, required
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, required
  • Admitted to the California Bar, required
  • Proven track record in building and managing teams
  • Preference given to candidates with multi-family office experience
  • Preference given to candidates with entertainment industry experience
